Obviously there are too many to start a poll, so just toss in some you like. Traditional or contemporary. I'll start with 3-

Happy Xmas-John Lennon

Christmas Wrapping- The Waitresses

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas- (but the original negative version as per Wikipedia.

Link (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_Yourself_a_Merry_Little_Christmas)

>>>Some of the original lyrics that were penned by Martin were rejected before filming began. They were: "Have yourself a merry little Christmas / It may be your last/ Next year we may all be living in the past / Have yourself a merry little Christmas / Pop that champagne cork / Next year we may all be living in New York."[7] When presented with the original draft lyric, Garland, her co-star Tom Drake and director Vincente Minnelli criticized the song as depressing, and asked Martin to change the lyrics.[2] Though he initially resisted, Martin made several changes to make the song more upbeat. For example, the lines "It may be your last / Next year we may all be living in the past" became "Let your heart be light / Next year all our troubles will be out of sight".[2] Garland's version of the song, which was also released as a single by Decca Records, became popular among United States troops serving in World War II; her performance at the Hollywood Canteen brought many soldiers to tears.[8]

In 1957, Frank Sinatra asked Martin to revise the line "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow." He told Martin, "The name of my album is A Jolly Christmas. Do you think you could jolly up that line for me?"[2] Martin's new line was "Hang a shining star upon the highest bough." Martin made several other alterations, changing the song's focus to a celebration of present happiness, rather than anticipation of a better future. <<<

My favorite Christmas song is "O Holy Night." There is nothing like Martina McBride's acapella version of it. Unfortunately, video doesn't do it justice. Seeing it in person gives chills on top of chills.

oHAy9e5I-nY

Martina's version of "Please Come Home For Christmas" has also become one of my all-time favorites over the past few years.

I love Manheim Steamroller's versions of Christmas songs. They're very unique but at the same time not so far off that you don't recognize them:

We Three Kings -makes you feel like you're traveling with the Wise Men in the middle east:

tI3MlyWOKmo

Veni Veni (O Come O Come Emmanuel) - this sounds a bit dark and demonic in the beginning and you wonder if they're singing about Damien more so than Jesus but it's a beautiful and haunting arrangement:

And here's three of my favorite contemporary Christmas songs:

Same Old Lang Syne by Dan Fogelberg

cmVXYOJzAJM

Gabriel's Message by Sting

GF2BzUDeTkY

This Christmas by Donny Hathaway (nothing comes close to the original)

I also like:

Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses
Mary's Boy Child by Boney M
My Favorite Things by Tony Bennett
Happy Holiday
Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney
Christmastime is Here
Step Into Christmas by Elton John
Any Christmas song sung by Stevie Wonder
Any of the versions done by Phil Spector and the Wall of Sound
And for fun, the Bob Rivers twisted Christmas parodies.

Here's five more that I like...

al896JFvQNg

(I feel that Weird Al's "Christmas at Ground Zero" was part of the backbone of this song).

H42Edy587hc

(With Blue-Eyes being 100...if he was still around...why not)?

yXQViqx6GMY

(I only like this song because if Phil Spector wasn't insane and wanted to...this would sound fantastic since it has that Wall of Sound)!

Fu2OwgSjiw8

(Another Wall-of-Sound like song here)!

NVbPgBGv2to

(If I ever have to leave Cleveland to pursue my career in broadcasting...this will bring more meaning for me).

I love the traditional old crooners like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Bing Crosby singing Christmas carols. Also Ella Fitzgerald and Rosemary Clooney! Not so much into the modern versions of Christmas carols!

Favorites are Silver bells, Oh come all ye faithful, Joy to the world and Oh little town of Bethlehem! As for non religious I just love Dean Martin's version of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. And Jingle Bell rock , The twelve days of Christmas!

Silent Night. But honestly I actually heard a version on the radio just recently that I thought was truly awful. I have no idea who the artist was just that it was a woman singing.
