With regard to the post in "Chit-Chat" about computers. My beef about them (I actually have a typed writen list of sh*t that bugs me about computers) but I think that they are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for what you get. I want my electronic equipment to LAST. For example, a good TV will last 10 years. A stereo might last 15 years. The average life expectancy for a computer hard drive is about 5 years. I just don't see all the hoopla about computers. Yea, they are cool for Internet, and e-mail and doing word processing. But to spend $1500-2000 dollars on average for something that could go to crap in 3 years, I just don't think it's worth it. It is COOL to be able for me to do my Word Processing and e-mail and Internet stuff. But the reliability of these things is most often GARBAGE! My old Smith Corona Word Processor doesn't have NEAR the functions and features of Microsoft Word, but it's a heck of a lot more RELIABLE in getting it to do what you want it to do, and it got me through college at a cost of $375+ occasional Ribbon Casette replacements at 2 in a pack for $8.00)
And then you got to go through all the maintence, and installing this, and updating that, and calling tech support who most of the time don't know what they are talking about anyway. These computer geeks are out there saying....Well, if you don't do these things, your computer's gonna DIE!!! (and you might die too by not having a computer)
The reiability of these machines, especially Windows.......SUCKS! and if I had a wish for computer people it would be, "Hey Bill Gates, start with producing a better quality Operating System and greater reliability, and spare us from including the "Find Blimpy The Clown Game" on Windows.
Good for you if your machine is OK after 4 years or more! But I am sure many of you feel pain and frustration with Windows and computers in general!
I hate it too when companies put features in their software that they think are the latest, greatest, most wonderful things known to people, and you can't turn them off!!! UGGGGGHHH!
