In the opening scene of her new sitcom Telenovela (https://tvline.com/tag/telenovela/) (previewing Monday, 10/9c on NBC), Eva Longoria’s Ana Sofia Calderon face-plants not once, but twice, as she rushes to set — late as usual. She might’ve been better off staying flat on the floor — concealing her participation in a series whose nifty premise collapses under the weight of its leaden jokes and dead-horse storylines.

Telenovela - Mondays at 8:30PM ET/PT on NBC
Series Preview Monday, December 7, 2015 at 10:00PM & 10:30PM ET/PT; Timeslot Premiere on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 8:30PM ET/PT

Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) stars in this big, fun and flashy half-hour comedy as Ana Sofia, the star of a popular Spanish language soap opera. One problem, she doesn't speak any Spanish. Other problems? Ana must manage a new boss, jealous castmates and high-maintenance best friends — and that's all before her ex-husband is hired as her new on-screen love interest. Just like a real telenovela, this comedy is full of all kinds of drama, including love, hate, life and even death! Despite all the chaos, this telenovela's cast and crew is a family ... or, at least, they try to be.

"It's one thing to play on the notion of the telenovela as an art form; it's quite another to do so in a world where The CW's Jane the Virgin is already giving a weekly master class in how that's done,” says Tim Goodman of the Eva Longoria comedy. He adds: "Whereas Jane the Virgin is flawlessly firing on all cylinders in its second season (a wonderful continuation of the impressive work it did last season), Telenovela offers up stale variations on the same subject, only in a half-hour form (that sometimes feels painfully longer).” PLUS: Telenovela is a mildly pleasant (http://variety.com/2015/tv/reviews/telenovela-review-eva-longoria-comedy-nbc-1201648148/) surprise, it is as good as an ABC sitcom (http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2015/dec/07/telenovela-preview-nbc-eva-longoria), and it’s too much of a vehicle for Eva Longoria (http://www.avclub.com/review/telenovela-hopes-youll-really-really-it-229176).

I don't think that the show flat out stunk but I really did not care that much for it ether I got a few chuckles out of it but nothing for it to be appointment viewing for me

We need to make this show a hit just to anger that racist Donald Trump.

It needs more Spanish too. A true Spanglish show.

I don't think Donald Trump gives a rip about this show, nor will its success or cancellation affect him in the least.

I thought the pilot was great, the second episode was a dud. I wanted to see more machismo from the male regulars. Ok, a gay pretty boy...got it. But many of those guys on the telenovelas are HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT!
