(zap2it.com) Mary Tyler Moore began interviewing cast members of her 1970s hit The Mary Tyler Moore Show Thursday for a special "retro-cast" due to air on May 13. Daily Variety reported today (Friday) that, unlike previous nostalgia specials in which the cast is gathered together to reminisce, Moore will be talking to co-stars Ed Asner , Valerie Harper , Betty White , Gavin MacLeod, Cloris Leachman and Georgia Engel in separate interviews. (Ted Knight died in 1986.) Moore told the trade paper that she intends to do "a more introspective analysis of who we are as actors and how that [impacted] our characters." Exec producer Gary Smith told Variety that he hopes to give viewers "a sense of what Mary felt while she was doing this show. They really were like family for her." The special is slated to air opposite ABC's "TV Guide Presents the 50 Best Shows of All Time."
