And then right after this episode airs on the West Coast (and at 12:30 AM on the East Coast) another episode will be broadcast on Decades TV, featuring a very young Jodie Foster.

yes I watched it and to me this S3 Xmas episode was the best one she did during her show. It is great to see all the people at her apartment having a good time and to see the Palluci's, Denver Pyle, Mr. Jarvis and the boys and to watch Doris sing Silver Bells. What a heart-warming episode.

I wish she had kept the season 3 format for both seasons 4 and 5 where they boys still lived with her and where they featured her father once in a while. I just didn't like S4 and 5 as much.

I watched last night too! I really don't ,or I VERY vaguely remember this show ? IDK for whatever reason my family and I didn't watch it or watch it much? It's a charming show!

Lots of barnyard humor on a farm that didn't seem to do any actual farmwork. Season Two had her taking a job in San Francisco as a secretary to a magazine editor and commuting to the farm. The farm and family took a back seat to Doris' work life. Season Three had her moving to San Francisco with her sons and living in a swanky apartment over an Italian restaurant. Season Four and Five have Doris suddenly single (not a widow) and no longer a secretary but a writer for the magazine (which now has a new boss and new best friend for Doris), and the same apartment is now no longer over a restaurant. Oh, and her sons disappear without a trace.



The story behind the show is actually more interesting than the plot. Doris Day was married to a man named Martin Melcher, who worked as her manager and got credit on most of her movies as a producer. She never wanted to do television, but after Melcher died, Day learned he had signed her up for this show without her knowledge or consent. A lot of the plot changes were due to her and her son Terry's attempts to make it more reflective of her image as a career woman, like in Pillow Talk. Oh, and to get away from CBS' newfound hatred of rural/family shows.



I kind of enjoy the show. It isn't great television but it is worth a look.<<<

I have the complete series on DVD and really enjoy the first two seasons best but starting with season four CBS wanted make it more "modern" in my opinion as they switched to a more urban format. That Aside I don't think this show was syndicated much. I know I sure never saw it until I purchased the DVD of season one.

It was syndicated quite a lot in the 1970's. I think the last time it was widely syndicated was in the early 80's when it was on CBN. I always enjoyed the show but I like the early seasons better too.

I rented the first season when it first came out on DVD and I could never get into it enough to buy it. But, it's fun to watch sometimes, especially because of the clothes.

She also had to do the show because Melcher spent her movie money (millions) and left her in debt! :mad:

I've read that Mary Tyler Moore's success playing a career woman was a large part of the decision to make Doris a career woman with no children. The Pelluccis and neighbor Mr. Jarvis carried over a bit into Season 4, but no one else from the past seasons appeared any more, including her family.
