This is about a character in a show running for some sort of office as a plot for an episode - not a story arch like on "Parks & Recreation" where they spent a season showing Leslie Knope running for for office or the Presidential elections on "The West Wing."

Jimmy James ran for President in an episode of "NewsRadio." He dropped out of the race when it was revealed he was only running to meet women.

Professor Arturo ran for mayor in an episode of "Sliders" on a world where women were the dominant sex in business and politics. In fact, Hilary Clinton was President in that episode, lol. Arturo won but it was only discovered after he slid to the next world, so he thought he had lost the election.

On an episode of "Wings", Roy Biggins and Faye Cochran ran for (I think) City Council.

On an episode of "The Monkees", Mike runs for Mayor. I forget how the episode ended but I'm pretty sure he didn't become Mayor, lol.

What are some other ones you guys can think of?

And if you'll accept it, Greg and Marcia competed for class president on a Brady Bunch episode.

Bobby Ewing became a Senator in "Dallas".

Washington: Behind Closed Doors was a mini-series based on the Watergate scandal.

This is my least favorite TV trope of all time!

This episode drives me cray-cray. It bugs me that Marcia lets Greg win because he's the oldest.

Wasn't that also the reason she gave him the attic?

Yes! When those episodes air I always think "What if something happens and Marsha can't be president or get the attic?" I would like things better if they flipped a coin or had a house of cards contest.

There were a couple of other shows that had a character running for political office. One was Maude running for the state senate, causing Walter to walk out and a Newhart episode where Larry ran for mayor in an effort to save the woods.
