As much as I despise Helen "Old Lady" Crump, I have to admit I did like her in Andy and Helen have their day, which has over the years become one of my favorite Season 5 episodes. The first reason I like it is seeing Helen actually be happy for a change and having a red string romance with Andy. We rarely see this side of Helen and seeing her happy, smiling and fooling around with Andy in the wilderness is very nice and rewarding (Not to mention she's as sexy as hell with her long braided hair) Secondly, the writers don't make the side characters act stupid or nasty. Usually during episodes where Helen plays a big part the side characters (Usually Barney, Thelma Lou, and/or Goober) are insufferable due to either being made unfunny annoying or as nasty as Season 7 Helen. Here both Barney and Goober are funny and you can understand why Barney would keep interrupting Andy and Helen with what he thinks are important things.

Why the writers after this episode aired insisted on giving us more episodes where Helen acts like an insufferable bitch instead of giving us episodes like Andy and Helen have their day is beyond me, because in the long run it caused the character to be one of the most hated characters on the show. To this day the majority of the TAGS fanbase can't stand her and she routinely appears in the top spots of the Worst Character lists (usually in the number three spot behind Emmett Clark and Warren Ferguson) and despite being the girl that eventually became Andy's wife is usually ranked last among Andy's girlfriends (Ellie or Peggy usually take the top spot of those lists) I admit I think Helen Crump is a very nasty person who should have been cut down to size after her inexcusable behavior in Guest in the House, but if there had been more episodes like Andy and Helen have their day, I think I would've liked the character a lot more and maybe would have wanted her to have been Andy's wife instead of wishing that Andy married Thelma Lou while Barney went with Juanita.
