When asked (https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/3sfg48/i_am_mindy_kaling_ask_me_anything/) why her show has “very little diversity,” Kaling responded that one-third of her cast, including herself, is minority. She added: "I do think it's important though, we can always do better. I always think it's funny that I'm the only asked about this when sitcoms I love with female leads rarely date men of color. I guess white women are expected to date white men. I'm expected to 'stick to my own.’” PLUS: Kaling cited Pride & Prejudice and South Park (http://observer.com/2015/11/mindy-kaling-on-her-x-files-obsession-and-how-south-park-inspired-her-show/) as inspirations for her show.

Kaling "mentioning about female lead dating white men" in this show, might be too forcefully fast.

Forcefully fast on one thing can cause bad imbalances and a big decreasement on ratings.

Of course, the this forcefully fast motion on Kaling's character dating white men incident not only caused the ratings to decrease too fast in FOX, but this incident was badly affected by poorly setup former FOX teen entertainment marketing system (which has New Girl, Glee, The Mindy Project, American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance in it).

Thank god, not only this show move to Hulu and did well than in FOX, the whole FOX teen entertainment marketing system is officially shut down back in May 2015.
