Finally! I love this show! I'm glad someone decided to release on DVD

This show has an amazing cast. I'm glad it's finally getting a DVD release!

I would love to see new info on this! This, for me too, is definitely a must-buy for me! I really like this show after discovering it on Antenna. One more show crossed off my want list :D If only "Small Wonder", "Mr. Belvedere" and "One Day at a Time" would be released too.

Oh and I have NEVER seen Season 1 so that will be a treat!

Eh, a little bit I suppose. I've never seen this series and once I get the money I'll buy it (I have a DVD collecting sickness, lol). When I told my dad about this release he seemed happy about it.

What show I'd really like VEI to release in a complete series set, however, is "Dear John."

I saw it as a kid but not again until last month on Antenna. I had forgotten everything about it except for the theme song, Judd Hirsch being John and the English woman on the show. But everything else - including the premise of the series beyond his wife leaving him - I totally forgot.

My dad even saw that the show was coming up next one morning and said to himself "Dear John? What's that?" But once it came on, it all came back to him. He said he used to watch it each week.

Of course I bring "Dear John" up on the "Evening Shade" thread because they were both sitcoms that lasted four seasons and each had a former cast member from "Taxi" (Judd Hirsch and Marilu Henner).

I like this series. It's not an absolute favorite of mine, per say, and I agree with Adam, I'd like Dear John as a complete series set from VEI.

I have the entire Dear John series downloaded from YouTube. So far, it seems like a decent show.

I can see VEI releasing complete series of "Dear John", "The Love Boat", and "Love, American Style". (and hope they do)

I hate how VEI always spreads out the release ... I suspect this is probably coming in Q4 2016 and hear news about it this summer, but seriously, I'd love to see artwork and how it looks.

I hope Shout! gets on the ball with more complete series sets, preferably, "One Day at a Time", "St. Elsewhere", "Diff'rent Strokes", and "Rhoda".

VEI is notorious for changing release dates. I'm sure it's still coming but VEI always takes their sweet time.

I sent VEI another email about this release and here's the response I got:

Ugh! VEI is really pissing me off. They need to get on the ball with this release or simply admit it's not being released.

This, and ANGIE were the only ones I planned on buying when they first announced all those CBS acquistions and still--nothing.

They are seriously dragging with this one. I want this so badly. Maybe someone could contact VEI?

It's strange how it got released on Friday but won't actually ship for another two weeks. I hope this means that they are still adding content such as bonus material and working to make this release a good one. I'm not picky, just overly optimistic.

I got it but haven't watch it yet. It's finals week at my college so all I have been doing is studying. Can't wait until I have some free time to watch this and a bunch of the other new releases from this year.

The two part episodes are shortened. Previews to parts two and three as well as episode recaps are missing. So those episodes are short. The season 1 episodes that I saw are identical from the original season 1 releases with the new CBS logo at the end, while 2-4 has the CBS logos you would see at the end of Rescue 911 episodes.

It will be interesting to see if the music was kept in tact this time around. I never owned the original season 1 release but I heard there we some musical edits resulting losses of full scenes for some episodes. Hopefully that has been corrected.

I've mainly watched the show via syndication (Antenna TV, CMT, my bootleg set) in past years so I may have to keep have to keep my collections if this one is plagued with edits.

Interesting news. I never heard of Evening Shade prior to this year; I was on another Taxi thread (not on this site), and the series was being discussed in relation to Marilu Henner's starring in the show. I never recall seeing it or even hearing about it when it was originally on TV in the early '90's, but that's no surprise since I had started to drift away from watching any TV at that point in time; also, not having cable resulting in having a hard time seeing non-cable shows without snow/fuzzy PQ.

In any case, I may be interested in checking this show out on the new DVD's - we'll see. My understanding is that this is the first time the show has been released in it's entirety on home video; apparently the previous DVD releases stalled before the entire series could be completed.

i have bought the set and know of all the changes from s2-s4 in the dvd versions.

changes in the s2 dvd versions:

like the reviewer on amazon said the teaser/recaps of the 2 part season 2 opener r missing from the dvd versions

ep 6 of s2 on the dvd obviously has some edits

ep 15 has some edits and is missing the teaser of part 2 of the 3 parter.

ep 17 obviously edited running a little over 19 and a half mins and is missing the recap of the 2nd part of this 3 parter.

ep 19 is missing about 32 secs of footage in the dvd version

changes in the s3 dvd versions:

the 2 parter ava takes a shower (both parts r missing the teaser 4 part 2 at the end of part 1 and part 2 is missing the recap of part 1 at the beginning)

another 2 parter that's actually a double ep as 1 hr ep (ep 17) is the syndicated split into 2 parts version.

changes in the s4 dvd version:

seems ep 15 & 16 r syndicated

Just watched the original airing for season 2 episode 17 and I now know why it only runs 19 minutes. There was a lot of musics that VEI clearly wasn't able to get the rights to. First song was Baby I Need Your Loving and the second was Chapel of Love. I have not watched the DVD version yet but I can only assume that these songs are the reason the episode runs shorter than usual.
