View Full Version : The Curse of Oak Island
Arnold_OldSchool 11-11-2015, 11:21 AM I have been obsessively watching this show now for 3 (?) seasons. I'm not sure any show has ever made me desperately wanting to see the next episode like this show does.
Yes, I admit the pacing can be slow at times and they like to repeat stories and bits constantly but by golly at the end of each show I seem to find myself inching toward the TV trying to figure out the newest twist the Brothers have discovered on the mystery.
Any other fans?
robyrob 11-11-2015, 01:04 PM i like watching the show, but I am convinced the treasure they are chasing is 100% B.S.
although I think they could actually find some small amount of real pirate treasure somewhere near the lagoon, they are not going to find the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant and Rasputin's testicles at the bottom of the big hole they are digging.
Arnold_OldSchool 11-11-2015, 03:18 PM I guess History is paying them 100K an episode. Supposedly they also have other unnamed $$$ backers that are funding this exhibition.
Hutton Pulitzer just posted on FB that the Bros are still playing in 10x this morning, wrapping up before winter. In other words, we won't be getting a major find out of this season it appears.
robyrob 11-11-2015, 06:22 PM its a good story - I just don't think there's a lot of truth behind it
its fun to watch anyways, I agree that it is pretty exciting and intense at times.
Laura77 11-11-2015, 09:48 PM I've been a faithful viewer of the show. I've been very interested in the story behind the Oak Island treasure since reading about it when I was a kid. As for the treasure, I know it was there at one time, but I would be very surprised if they found anything there now, it's long since been removed.
Arnold_OldSchool 11-18-2015, 10:56 AM I enjoyed the second episode but as always the show spent an hour getting very little in the way of progress. I sure hope the divers actually get down in the hole and gives us the answer. So of course next week's clips are about the guys following another random person's idea and digging a new hole somewhere. AUGH!

I agree, very frustrating to watch, but I'm too intrigued by the whole Oak Island mystery to give up on it entirely. Last season, I was fed up with all the "field trips" to Scotland, etc, while they were trying to figure out where the treasure came from. Never mind the fact that they hadn't actually found it yet! Couldn't they just stay in Nova Scotia and dig some more, lol!
Arnold_OldSchool 11-27-2015, 05:59 AM Another episode where they do more thinking than action.
Can't wait for the divers to give it a go once and for all.
Arnold_OldSchool 12-02-2015, 11:08 AM Fun episode as it really felt like they are moving toward a real resolution!
The next step sure feels like success.
Can't wait to see where this all ends.....
and the end tease with the camera in the pit made me wish it was next week already!
I could have done without more history talk regarding the stone. Just dig!!!!!!!
Arnold_OldSchool 12-09-2015, 11:58 AM Wowzers....
With 10x all but finished (minus a real look at the floor) that pretty much leaves the vault as the last hope for any real treasure find.
I wonder what Dan's reaction was to seeing his baby come up empty?
I also wonder why they didn't send the robot back down to find the floor since the team was still there when they were debating such things.
This is so deflating and next week we are back to staring at rocks :(
I fear a big ratings drop with all the 10x hype ending this way!
tarheelslim 12-09-2015, 03:42 PM I guess History is paying them 100K an episode. Supposedly they also have other unnamed $$$ backers that are funding this exhibition.
See? They already found the treasure...
:dollar: :dollar: :dollar:
Arnold_OldSchool 12-16-2015, 12:23 PM Things continue to fall flat as the latest sonar whatever tech comes up empty and then we stare at rocks. The big finish is another wacko coming in with a theory.
Ugh
Laura77 12-29-2015, 10:38 PM Sunday's ep was another letdown. Found a sharpened post, then dropped everything to visit with an author and bury a time capsule.
Arnold_OldSchool 01-01-2016, 05:55 PM At least they are heading back to 10x this week
Laura77 01-01-2016, 06:00 PM I missed seeing the preview for this weeks episode. I wonder what's making them head back to 10 x again?
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 01-06-2016, 01:48 AM They sent a diver down to help cross it off the list.
Arnold_OldSchool 01-06-2016, 02:14 PM Good episode. The guys toyed around with finding underwater markers in the ocean and had yet another theorist come in to eat up time but the guys found a diver who proved willing and able to explore 10x! The show ended just as the dive started and I already can't wait to see next week. I didn't have the follow up show set to record, so I can't comment on that....
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 01-06-2016, 07:07 PM The followup was a talk show hosted by a very enthusiastic young man. It was good.
Arnold_OldSchool 01-10-2016, 01:03 PM Has anyone re-watched the old episodes with extra footage and facts?
Arnold_OldSchool 01-10-2016, 03:35 PM They confirmed on the Digging Deeper special that they had a diver explore the bottom of 10x! That's exciting!
Arnold_OldSchool 01-13-2016, 12:25 PM The big 10x dive is complicated by communications issues almost right away. The safety diver aborts his the dive leaving the other diver alone in the shaft. Suspenseful minutes pass as the fate of the other diver is unknown. He eventually emerges and reports on the terrible visibility the murky water. A meeting is called and a new dive is planned for the next day.
The next day the divers decide that the materials they have with are not adequate for safety and the divers leave...for now...
A brief aside sees Rick digging with a metal detector.
The divers return (4 days have passed). The next dive goes off and we learn the diver made it a ways into the 27 inch hole before he connected with the long lost drill bar that is blocking the hole. There was no wiggle room and the divers have no idea if scuba diving will ever be a viable method of exploring 10x.
Back in the war room, one of the members produces the sword that has been creating a buzz online in recent weeks. They reveal the sword is Roman and was found in the 40's in the waters nearby. They joke about all the theories of who landed on the island long ago and agree to leave an open mind to the matter.
Next week they research the sword in a lab and find a diver who guarantees he'll get to the bottom of 10x. Plus more drilling.
Arnold_OldSchool 01-20-2016, 10:48 AM The Roman Sword is brought to Halifax for testing. Off camera, the guys supposedly bought the sword for 10K, but that isn't stated on camera.
The sword is determined to be decorative in nature and not used in battle.
The expert determines the sword is fake but leaves open a chemical testing option to determine for sure.
Another clan goes digging for eelgrass to try to find out how old the box drains are that the eelgrass supposedly was used to block. They find some and head off to have it tested.
They next talk to a diver who promises they can get into the 10x cavern. He wants to do a test run to explore the drill bar stuck in the 27 inch hole before trying a full dive.
Another theorist comes and gives his spiel. The guys go right out to try and find the mark. They find a drilled rock and evidence of ground that has been sunken in.
While drilling in the spots marked, they hit bits of wood 35 feet below. The rest is a dud and they give up.
They return to the lab to see the results of the sword tests. It's a modern piece from the last 125 years or so. Dud.
Next time...they hit a cavity underground while drilling and the diver comes in to plunge in 10x!!
Arnold_OldSchool 01-27-2016, 03:41 PM We kick right off with the boys drilling some holes looking for "The Money Pit".
They remind us that digging to an underground void would cost millions.
They bring up a bunch of shards of wood - some black, meaning it's really old at 100 feet down.
THEY HIT A VOID. 160 feet down. 7 feet high. Then another cavity is discovered. 21 feet high.
They save the slop they force up in order to root through it with a metal detector. They find a tiny metal object that they feel is shaped like the island. This tiny spect emboldens them to dig dig dig....soon?
They bring in the granddaughter of the man who died in a shaft accident in the late 1800s. They speculate that his body was never recovered and may have been flushed into the 10x hole via flood tunnels.
They next bring in the diver who promises to be able to make it into the chamber in 10x.
They head to the war room to show the diver all the sonar and other models of 10x they have.
Only 15 mins of show left...I smell a cliffhanger into next week's season finale.
Down the hole he goes... hits the drill bar that is wedged in the shaft. His hose gets caught up on the bar and we get some tense moments as he struggles to free himself. Then makes it past.
He climbs into the chamber and we leave this week with clips of next week as the diver finds a box.....
Arnold_OldSchool 01-28-2016, 01:05 PM I again noticed that the old guys Blankenship and Nolan were AWOL during this major dive effort. I find it bizarre that during several of these huge undertaking this season, they haven't been poking around to watch their lifes work be uncovered.
https://www.reddit.com/r/OakIsland/comments/2seqlr/comparing_1971_dives_down_10x_to_the_recent_dives/
Here's a good site that explains Blankenship's personal dives, the body parts he saw on camera, and other interesting stuff.
Arnold_OldSchool 02-03-2016, 12:33 PM They kick start right in the chamber. The diver finds a metal pole stuck in the ground. They figure it is a drill pipe. The bottom of the chamber seems to be clay. Some random debris maybe man made. The area where the body was suppose to be is full of sinkholes and a flow of water.
He finds a rectangular opening on the side of the chamber. The sides feel like clay and the roof is crumbly. The opening is small enough that you'd have to crawl into the hole.
Back at the surface, he debunks the treasure chest as a stone. He didn't see any wooden poles the men felt they found on sonar. The body is suspected to be a illusion created from a sinkhole. He feels the hole is a natural formation. The brothers are disappointed but Rick still wants to drain 10x to prove it once and for all.
They next bring in 3 women who are related to the teenage boys who first saw the lights that started all the treasure talk. They get a tour of the island. The sisters claim that 3 chests were found by their relatives and they produce a gold cross they claim has been dated back 500 years.
Next they send a camera down the Money Pit drill hole they made last week, They see a glint of metal in several places in the void. Rick needs to convince his partners to spend millions of dollars to dig an 8 story hole to figure out what they just saw. They feel 10x has lots of sentiment to dig through before calling it a dud.
Arnold_OldSchool 02-10-2016, 11:16 AM So on the "Drilling Down" special after the finale they bring back the sonar expert who mapped out 10x and he informs everyone that a "Montreal engineer" has robotic camera images from inside of 10x that clearly show a box made of wood, a locking mechanism and a curved top.
Rick, Marty and Dave B. all claim to have no knowledge of these images existing.
Huh.
