OThere is not yet, to my knowledge, a "Family Affair" section on fanfiction,.net, so i wanted to post these in case anyone is curious.
First, I've got a couple "Family Affair" fics that show what it was likely like for Buffy - remember, the character is not the actor, and I don't think I ever posted these (I'm sorry if this is a repeat), and there had to be an explanation for Buffy acting the way she did by the final season. Here, grieving is given a a very likely explanation (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8908956/1/The-Person-Inside) - and it features an enjoyable crossover with the Boys from the Twelfth, Barney Miller. And, here is a crossover (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9109154/1/A-Common-Thread) with Welcome Back, Kotter with Buffy and Jody as seniors in high school.
I must admit I never saw the original, just the attempted reboot, but from the descriptions a friend gave I tried, and he sid I did a very good job with the characters and having everyone seem pretty much like themselves (if older)
And, a but of fun, because it's hard - given how Anissa grew up - to see how she could have survived if she was pushed into Hollywood, and yet in this alternate Star Trek history (http://alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=335532&highlight=Treks) she does. I didn't think about it till later, but i put Star Trek on a space station run by Majel Barrett first (since Gene Roddenberry wanted to have her in charge or at least 2nd in command, and it's possible NBC could have said, "Okay, but only if she isn't running a starship but more like a base." And, if she is that TL's Captain janeway, in that "Shuffling of the Treks," Anissa could hve played a version of Naomi and - as I note in my lastpost on the "Timeline in a day," things could have been happier for her.
I posit it as a challenge on the Voyager forums at fanfiction.net, if anyone wants to tackle it.)
It's rough to think how hard it was for her, and maybe such AH isn't fun because it brings back thoughts of what could have been. However, at least the first two will be enjoyable, I hope, because when we really like characters, we tend to want to think of them as avoiding tragic fates if their performers did.
