Hi, Mayberrians! New guy here. So which one-time character would you have liked to see become a regular, or at least a more frequent presence in Mayberry?

I can think of two right off the top of my head. I always liked Big Jeff Pruitt (Alan Hale). There was just something really open and likable about him. Would've liked to see him drop into town more often. Maybe he could pick up some more girls. ;)

Also, Ed Sawyer, the Stranger in Town. I would have enjoyed seeing him adapt to life in Mayberry. And anyone who dreams of living in Mayberry would be able to live vicariously through him. :)

I would've liked to have seen more of Jimmy, the dynamite eating goat.

Would like to have seen David Browne, Cousin Virgil & Malcolm Tucker make another appearance or 2.

Those are good picks. I loved Buddy Ebsen as David Browne. I tend to think of that as the first truly great TAGS episode.

Oh, and Malcolm Tucker. He was so good. The regular cast is so strong that it's sometimes easy to overlook the guest actors (unless the characters are the in-your-face types like Ernest T. or the Fun Girls). But a friend and I watched "Man in a Hurry" the other night, and we were both struck by what a wonderful job Robert Emhardt did in the Malcolm role. He was also in the color ep, "The Foster Lady," but I would have loved to have seen Malcolm make a return visit to Mayberry.

Almost any of the Andy guest star girlfriends if it would have led to no Crump.

I always loved the episode where Bob Denver played the Husband of Miss Darling(Dud Wash) in one episode where Miss Darling tries to leave him for Andy. That was such a great character and funny story.

Two good choices...

Ed Sawyer would have been much like Howard became in later years, I think.

The two older Morrison sisters who made elixir (moonshine) for special occasions should have been on a few more episodes.

They should have made Henry Bennett (The Jinx) into a recurring character.

I agree with DJM, Jimmy the goat was great! would have been interesting seeing he eat other things, Barney's gun or Aunt Bea's pickles. This thread has given me a good idea I'll start a tread for regular characters you wish were one-offs. Could be interesting.
