why bother with a another remake? - get John Cleese to do a continuation series with a handful of NEW episodes !!

I've read online that Newhart (https://boards.straightdope.com/t/fawlty-towers-newhart/252454) was the best American (https://www.datalounge.com/thread/26150625-snavely-the-failed-us-version-of-fawlty-towers-1978) adaptation (https://www.radiodiscussions.com/threads/american-tv-tried-three-times-to-do-fawlty-towers.717370/) of Fawlty Towers (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Series/FawltyTowers) even if that wasn't (https://www.avclub.com/newhart-the-complete-first-season-1798203914) the full and actual (https://www.metafilter.com/136934/Fawlty-Towers-without-the-Fawltys) intent (http://www.tvworthwatching.com/post/THISDAYINTVHISTORY20200521.aspx).

I didn't know there was one American remake of Fawlty Towers, let alone three. Are they any good? At least one must be, right? Right??

Because it took notes from Amanda's By the Sea. On the show, Amanda's son was a wimp married to a snot-nosed, blonde priss who worked at the hotel but thought that everything was beneath her. Then, what a coincidence, Newhart is inspired to rewrite Julia Duffy and Peter Scolari to play the same type of characters.

Newhart also borrowed heavily from a lot of different sources, including Green Acres.

It's time for another US Remake of a British Sitcom! This time, we are going to look at three American adaptions of Fawlty Towers, that's right, we have three US versions to look at, those being Snavely (https://youtu.be/sqqrYDNcAto), Amanda's By The Sea (https://youtu.be/8j_LeG44JSs), and Payne (https://youtu.be/GRljk3aVW2k). Enjoy!

Barry Kemp, on creating Newhart:

And on casting Julia Duffy:

For what it's worth, I've always thought Michael and Stephanie were brought in as a Cheers knockoff. She shows up with a busted marriage and no noticeable skills, and just stays.
