One of the great traditions of the Holiday Seasons was going to a HESS Gas Station to purchase their annual HESS Toy Truck. Earlier it was announced that these trucks would no longer be sold at their gas stations (Most of which were bought out by SPEEDWAY (Which used to sell their own "Coca Cola" Trucks until 2007). Instead they announced the toys would be sold online beginning yesterday or at select malls (In Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut) starting this November 12. I guess HESS didn't comprehend the untold numbers of people going to the website to purchase them, as their system CRASHED. They are trying to resolve this problem, they have shut their phone # down, most likely because they don't want to deal with irate callers. :angryfire
What a debacle! :( I shudder to think what may happen if they haven't solved this problem by Friday, November 12. I envision "Black Friday" style mobs at the malls where they're selling them, and possible rioting.
IMO they should apologize, and return to selling them at Gas Stations, even if it needs to negotiate with SPEEDWAY. The old system wasn't broke, so why did they try to fix it?
I never got the trucks, but I do get gas at a Hess which turned into a Speedway.

Does it really shock you? Anything involving tradition seems to go down the drain.

They have a "Que Line" where You have to wait until you can process your order. I'm going to try to order after I get back from work. I have to admit they're doing their best to inform us on what in blazes is going on. Still, I censure them for selling their stations and discontinuing selling these toys at these stations, most likely to squeeze out a few extra dollars for their shareholders. :thumbsdow

There are a few Hess gas stations that still exist, believe it or not. Here's one on NY 112 and Oak Street in Patchogue, New York. This doesn't solve anything with the Hess Truck issue, but it's just something I thought I'd bring up.

There are two HESS stations in the Daytona Beach area, but none of them are selling these toys. :(
After waiting over four hours in their "virtual que" I was FINALLY able to purchase three of these little buggers. :angryfire
All this to squeeze out an extra megabuck for their shareholders.
IMHO This is the greatest FUBAR since the Election Fiasco of 2000 (Gracias Elian! - Presidente George W. Bush, Curse You Janet! - Al Gore).
I hope :santa: Santa Claus :santa2: Burys their shareholders under TONS OF COAL this Christmas! :brent

The company still exists as a refinery.

Those HESS trucks werent made as good as they wre in the 80s anyway, they were crap....... I would LOVE having an original HESS truck from the early 80s! (I used to have one)
Now it seems like this thing is advertised everywhere. I keep seeing it.
