I downloaded a random theme song at soundamerica.com and it ended up being a show called "Only Fools and Horses." The theme song was so catchy that I am suddenly interested in finding out more on the show. Could someone please summarize the basic plot for me? I am American, I don't know Britcoms very well.

Only Fools And Horses was written by John Sullivan, who also wrote programmes like Citizen Smith and Just Good Friends, The series was first transmitted in 1981 and follows the exploits of the Trotter family who live in a council owned high rise block of flats in Peckham in The London Borough of Southwark. The series officially ended in February 1991, but did return in December 1991 with seven Christmas specials. Three more episodes are to being filmed currently, the first episode was shown in the UK on Christmas Day 2001 and the other two to be shown in 2002.

Derek 'Delboy' Trotter (David Jason) is an eternal optimist.

"This time next year, we'll be millionaires!", he keeps telling his gormless brother Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst).

The Trotter brothers live with their Grandad (Lennard Pearce) in a flat in a tower block in Peckham, London. After Grandad's death, 'Uncle' Albert (Buster Merryfield) comes to stay, with endless tales that all seem to begin, "During the war ...".

Later, Rodney marries Cassandra (Gwyneth Strong) and Racquel (Tessa Peake-Jones) comes to live with Del.

Other regular characters include Trigger (Roger Lloyd-Pack), Boycie (John Challis), Marlene (Sue Holderness), Denzil (Paul Barber), Micky Pearce (Patrick Murray) and Mike the Landlord

And it's considered to be one of the funniest British Sitcoms ever and it's really well acted out.

If you're planning to start watching though, don't start with the first 2 seasons are they aren't very good but it gets funny after them.

I'd disagree with this slightly - Ok, the show hadn't fully blossomed into the classic it became known as, but they're still worth watching, and especially for establishing the relationships between the original characters and their family (especially the first Christmas episode which features the return of Del & Rodney's father).

But, DON'T bother with the recent 2001 Christmas episode - to my mind the series ended perfectly in the mid-90s and it should have stayed there. It seems someone at the BBC was salivating over the prospect of high ratings figures rather than concerning themselves with well-written programmes. Sadly, this episode didn't meet the high standards of the programme's history. :(

So.....stick with any of the others....especially "The Jolly Boy's Outing" (my personal favourite). :rotflmao:

That Christmas episode was actually in Series 3 because I've got the complete 3rd series on video and that is the series when it started to get good.

I agree, avoid the newest episode.

id say they were all good, except the newer ones. i mean they were alone the same lines but tried too hard to be funny and like the classic eps. i mean the one where they sell that watch and become millionaires was the right point to finish at u know? i dont see why they had to try to carry on, it was wrong i tells ya! lol
