"McCafferty" she said into the reciever.
"Hey mom,it's me." Amanda replied in a distraught tone.
"Hey honey,something wrong?" Kate askes her daughter.
"Yeah,it's Dad,he's been in an accident." Amanda said.
"He's gonna need a blood transfusion,and I'm his closest
relative,so I have to leave right away,.Just lettin' ya know
before I left,gotta go love ya bye!" and with that Amanda hung up. 'Amanda,wait..no!" Kate shouted,but was cut off by the dial tone. 'Oh no...what am I gonna do!? She's gonna find out!"
Kate thought to herself,as she rested her face in her hands.

"Haha, Very funny" magda said,and rolled back over to her desk. "Listen, Gabe's playing at a new club tonight,ya wann go see'em?" "uh....Yeah,sure,...where's he playing?"Jinny replied,looking over her shoulder at Magda.
"It's that new one that opened up.....Antonio's"Magda told her.

"What do I do,what do I do?!?!" Kate kept asking herself.
"What the h*ll am I gonn do!?!....She's gonna hate me,...
she'll never forgive me!........oh G**,what if she wants to meet him or someting!?!?!" The thought of that terrified Kate.
"I have to tell'em ,I have to tell'em, that's all there is to it."she told herself,and picked up the phone and started to dial a number."No,I can't! He'll hate me too,for not telling him." She said
as she slammed the phone back down. "No,Kate you have to do this,you have no choice,you have to do this."She tells herself, picks up the phone,takes a deep breath,and starts dials to a number.

"I'd still like to know what was wrong with Captain,she looked
really upset."Magda said as she pulled into the parking lot at Antonio's. "I'm sure everything is ok"Jinny replied."anyways we're
here now,lets go" "well ya don't have to be so snappy about it."
Magda said,as she pulled into a parking space.
"I'm sorry Mag,I hope everything is ok too,But I don't think it's any of our business,if it was she would have said something."
Jinny replied,getting out of the car. "I know ,I guess you're right,
I just can't help it I'm......"Magda gets cut-off by Jinny
"You're nosey,and you know it" she chuckled
"I am not,I'm just....okay so I admit it I 'm nosey"Magda laughed,
not able to find an excuse for her habit of butting-in


Kate arrived at the restaurant at 8 o'clock on the dot, to find him waiting at the bar. "Hi,..thanx for meeting me."
"No problem,I was really suprised that you called,what can I do for ya?"he asked. "uh...can we find a private table somewhere?"
Kate asked becoming more and more nervous,and starting to wonder if maybe this was a mistake. "Sure" he said, as he stood,starting to become somewhat anxious.

"So..what did you need?" he asks,as they sat down at a corner table near the back of the room."uh......"Kate began with a sigh,
the hard part had just arrived."I don't know how to say this,except to just come right out and say it." "Okay." he replied
gesturing for her to continue.


"ooo,there's a table over there,right up front,I'll go grab it." Jinny said,pointing to a table. "ok, I'll get the drinks,watcha want?"
Magda replies. " Diet Coke"Jinny tells her as she walks over toward the table.

"Hey,Jin!" Gabriel walked over just after Jinny sat down.
"Hey,Gabe!" Jinny replied,as he sat down beside her.
"Mag here?" He questions,looking around. "Yeah,she went to get
drinks"Jinny informed him,pointing over her shoulder toward the bar. "Oh,ok,I saw you sit down,thought I say Hi before I went on,
thanx for comin, tell Mag I said Hi." He said as he got from his chair. "No problem.......Brake a Leg" Jinny replied. "Thanx"Gabe chuckle as he walked off.

"here ya go"Magda said,sitting Jinny's drink down infront of her.
"thanx....you just missed Gabe,He came over to say Hi befor he went on."Jinny Said ,taking a sip of her drink." Oh"Magda replied,
and looked up at the stage as Gabriel walked on.


"Do you remember my daughter Amanda?"Kate went on.She took another sip of her Vodka Martini. "Yes,is she ok,is something wrong?"He inquired,trying to get to the bottom of what this was
all about. "Oh,no,no,She's fine...............She's yours." Kate said point blank,it was the only descent aproach to this she could think of. "W..What?" He asked, not quite grasping what she was saying. "You are her father." Kate let out a gigantic sigh,and finished off her martini. "But...but what about...George?"He
asked,now extremely shocked,and confused. Kate just shook her
head "no". "but,...h..how?" "Well,...you remember that one night about 20 years ago?" Kate reminded him of a certain One-night-stand.

tone.

"I don't hate you,..I just don't understand why you never said anything." He replied,taking a sip of his beer.

Taking a deep breath she began trying to explain. "Well,I...I...I
thought I was doing what was best for everyone....George and I
had only been married for a few years,and....it was so soon after
Janet........,a...and the kids,and........"


"Hey,I'm gonna go use the can...."Jinny gets cut-off by Magda.
"Jinny!"
"Oh,fine, I'm going to the Little Girl's Room" Jinny replied sarcastically. 'Ok,I'm gonna go say Hi to Gabe,while he's on break."Magda said,walking toward the stage. "ok,I'll be back in a minute" Jinny replies,heading toward the back of the club

Rounding the corner, Jinny heard the Captain's voice. She looked in that direction, and saw Kate sitting at a corner table. " might as well say hi" Jinny thought to herself. She starts over when she realizes that Kate is very upset. As she steps closer she sees that she is with someone. " I wonder who that is and what has them so upset". As she walked by, the person leaned over and turned just enough for Jinny to see who it was. " What the h*ll is HE doing here and with my Captain?!" Jinny thought as she paused . She quickly went on to the restroom, so that they wouldn't catch her staring. Inside the restroom she thought "what are they doing together and why are they so upset?.........I should probably get Mag and leave before they see us. This could get embarressing."

Going back to the table. she notices that Magda isn't back yet. She glances around the room, not seeing them she heads backstage to find them.

Finding them in Gabe's dressing room, "Hey,Mag,can we go ahead and go,I'm not feeling to good,and just wanna go home and lay down." "Sure,we can,whats wrong?" Magda replies,with concern. "I just have a bad headache,...it's been trying to hurt all day,I think I might be coming down with something."Jinny said the only thing that came to mind. "Ok,we can go"Magda said,and turned to Gabe."Bye,Huny"She says,giving him a quick kiss on the lips. "Bye Mag,Bye Jin,...Hope you feel better,thanx for comin' " Gabe replied. "yeah,thanx,...you were really good tonight,bye."
Jinny said and turned to go. "Thanx" Gabe waved as the two walked off.

"Hey,let's go out the back door,it's closer" Magda suggested.
"Uh...we're closer to the front door though."Jinny grasped at straws. "but the car is closer to the back."Magda replied.
"....I just wanna go out the front door ok,Mag"
"But why??"Magda questioned,suspiciously.
"uh...........oh,alright,fine, we'll go out the back!"Jinny gave in,she couldn't think of a good reason to go out the front.

Walking toward the back door,"Hey,isn't that...."Magda notices Kate. "No,it's not ,I thought it was too,let's go."Jinny replies.
"are you sure,and wasn't she with......" Magda asked.
"No,it wasn't,let's go!"Jinny replies,yanking Magda out the door.
"Hey,whats the rush!?" Magda asked once they were outside.
"I feel nauseous."Jinny replied walking on down the ally.
"Do ya need to go back to the restroom?" Magda asked,pointing back toward the door.
"If I could just go home and lie down!"Jinny said ,walking to the car. "OK,ok,sheesh!"Magda mumbled,following her.

Hey,sorry I haven't posted in a while.I just bought a new horse,

"Sorry for cutting things short,thanx for bringing me home,....Why

"No,Mag,realy,I just want to curl up on the couch."Jinny protested,
unlocking her front door,and going in."Where are you going?"
Jinny asked,as Magda walked past her."To get you some asprin!"Magda yelled from the kitchen. "Mag,I'm not a baby,I can take care of my self!"Jinny yelled back,sitting on the couch,and
taking off her shoes."I know,I'm just trying to help."Magda replied
walking into the living room,with a glass of water in 1 hand,and
2 asprin in the other."Here take these"she said,handing them to Jinny. "what the h*ll,all this starting to give me a real headache anyway"Jinny thought to herself,and took the pills. "You need anything else?"Magda asked,as she handed the glass to Jinny.
"No,I'm fine,I'll probably just get confy on the couch,and relax"Jinny replied. "ok,thats probably a good idea,I'll go,
call me later,...and fell better ok" Magda said as she walked toward the door. "I will,bye"Jinny replied as she grabbed the TV remote,and stretched out on the couch. "Bye" Magda said as she
closed the door behind her. "Thank god!"Jinny thought outloud,
as soon as Magda shut the door."Lets see,it's 10 o'clock,time
for City Lights."Jinny said to herself,as she put the Tv on the Lifetime channel.After about 10 minut4es,she gave up trying to watch,and turned theTV off.Her thought kept wondering to what she had seen at Antonio's that nigh,"What were,they doing there?...Why were they so upset?.....What the h*ll were they even doing together!?!?......It must be something really major,
for HER to break down like that......especially in public...........I wasn't sure she knew how to cry."


"So what did you guys do last night?"Raina asked,as she poured herself a cup of coffee. "Oh,Jinny and I went to that new club Antonio's,to see Gabe play."Magda replied,as Kate walked into the division."Oh,I've been there,that's a great place,but I didn't see Gabriel there."CD joined in on the conversation. "He just started last night."Magda said. "Hey,Cap, you ever been to Antonio's?"Jinny asked ,just to get her reaction. "Uh.....no,...I haven't."Kate replied,somewhat startled,and turned to go into her office. "Oh, I guess you were right Jin,it wasn't her."Magda said taking another sip of her coffee. "what was that?" Kate asked,hoping she had just heard wrong. "Last night at Antonio's we saw a woman that was identical to you,but Jin said it wasn't you."Magda explained. "Huh?....well I've always heard,everyone has a twin,guess it's true."Kate replied,and rushed into her office.
"Is it just me,or did she seem jumpy to you guys?" Raina asked,as she sat down at her desk,coffee in hand. "Yeah,she did." CD replied. "What is going on?!.....Why would she lie like!?!..
I have to find out!...She'll just say it's none of my bussiness,.....
but it is my bussiness,after all he.........." Jnny was in deep thought,and missed the conversation going on around her.
"Yahoo!! Earth to Jinny,Come in Jinny!!"Nate waved his his hand in Jinny's face. "Huh?"Jinny asked. "Welcome back to reality,Jin."
He saidonce he got her attention. "Did you even hear any of the conversation?" "uh...no."Jinny replied. "What were you thinking about?" Magda asked. "oh,...nothing,nothing,...What were you
saying?" "We were talking about that show,City Lights."
Raina filled her in on what she had missed. "Oh,I love that show"
Jinny replies. "I do too,and ya know The captain on there,reminds me so much of somebody,but I just can't figure out who it is."
CD agreed. "I can tell ya who it is,she reminds you of our very own Kate McCafferty,The're just a like!"Said Jinny,pointing toward Kate's office.'and speaking of Cap,I'll be right back." She got up and heading to Kate's office ,knocking on the door,she walked on in,without waiting for a reply.

"Whatcha need?"Kate asked,covering the mouthpiece with her hand. "Oh,you're on the phone,I'll come back later."Jinny said
and started to open the door. "No,I'll just be a minute."Kate replied. "Well,I just wanted to ask about Amanda's dad was doing ,I heard he was in the hospital."
"Oh,uh...I don't know,I haven't heard anything."Kate said,giving Jinny an odd look. "Oh,......well,..thats all I wanted to know"she
replied,and rushed out of Kate's office.
"You still there?...Good,...That was Jinny,she was acting really weird,I think,maybe she knows something..........."

"Oh,goo,little strang,but good."Jinny replied,walking in from the kitchen,with a couple of plates,she handed 1 to her dad.
"Oh,how so?"He inquired,dishing some fried rice onto his plate.
"I'm just a little concerned about Captain.She's been acting really weird the past day or so." Jinny explained,grabbed an egg roll.
"Oh?"
"Yeah,like this morning,we were all talking about that new club Antonio's,and I asked if she had ever been there,and she froze like a deer caught in headlights."
Oh,well I'm sure she's fine,you know Kate,she's a strong person."
John Sr. replied,after a long pause. Grabbing his plate off the table,he headed for the living room.


Moments later they hear the front door slam."Hey,anybody home!?" John Jr. yelled.

Coming up the stairs He sees Jinny eavesdropping,"Jin, wha...."
"Dad,sshhh!!"Jinny whispered."Come here."
"What?"he asked leaning in behind Jinny."

"Kate,you know how this is going to effect everyone,...............No,we can't,not yet!!"

"Jinny,we shouldn't be listening,come on."John Sr. said with a look of concern,grabbing Jinny's arm, and pulling her away from the door

When the phone started ringing,no one made an effort to go answer it. "Oh,fine I'll get it!"Jinny groaned,as she stood up.
"buncha lazy bums"She mumbled making her way over John Jr.'s
legs. "Exstead..........Oh,hey,.....yeah,just a minute."She started to hand the phone to John Jr.."Here"
"No,I'm not here!"He whispered,refusing to take the phone.
"He's not here,ya just missed'em." She said into the receiver.
"O..Okay,hold on.." "John,your wife says,she knows you're here,

"Morning,Captain!"Raina said cheerfully,when she saw Kate walking into the division.

"So,what are we doing for lunch?"CD asked the room in general.
"I figured,we'd just get take out from Anchorside." Nate suggested."If that's alright with everyone else."

"Fine with with me."Magda said,stacking up some papers.

"Jin,is that alright with you?" nate asked when she didn't respond.

"You must be Captain's daugther, I'm Raina Washington,we've talked on the phone."Raina introduced herself.
Oh,yeah...It's nice to officially meet you."Amanda replied.Sitting down at Jinny's desk.
Oh,I'm sorry" CD said looking from her partner to Amanda.
"Amanda,this is my new partner Nate Basso..........Nate this Cap's daughter Amanda."
"Nice to meet you."He held his hand out to her.
"You too"She replied,shaking his hand.

"Kate,I'll see you in the morning."Charles said,as they walked out of Kate's office."Bright and early."
"You bet"She replied as he walked out of the division. She then turned to CD,and crossed her eyes.
"Boy,You hate him don't you?"
"Hate,..hate doesn't even begin to discribe..."Her voice faded,when she noticed Amanda sitting at Jinny's desk.
"Hi,hunny,what are you doing here?"She could feel her heart pounding in her chest.
"Mom we need to talk."Was all Amanda said.She got up and walked toward Kate's office. "About what,hunny?"She asked,following her."Stay calm,stay calm,stay calm."She kept repeating in her head. Though it didn't seem to be working.


"Hey,Shawn!"Jinny called to get his attention,as she walked up to the bar."Hey,Jinny,long time no see,where ya been?"He replied
walking over to her. "I've been in rehab.Shawn,...I'm sober."
Jinny told him,she was rather proud of her acomplishment.
"That great Jinny!.....how long?"
"171 days,today."She smiled.
"Well,congratulations,Jin,that's real good to hear."He patted her hand."I'll go get your food for ya"

"What did you want to talk to me about?"Kate asked once she'd closed the door.

"well,when They took my blood to see what type I am..................
I don't match,.......luckily,Aunt Emily,does.
"Well,thats good."Kate didn't no what else to say,but she knew she had to say something. a long,awkward silence followed.
"Anyways"Amanda spoke up."I am O negative..........................I remember you saying that you were...."
"Type A" Kate sighed,and sat down in her chair slowly.
"If I don't match Dad,.....and I don't match you,...Then.."
Amanda was very confused,and starting to get scared.
"Then,I'm either adopted....or....."
"George isn't you father."Kate blurted out.She decided she needed to say it and get it over with.
"W...w..wa..what??"Amanda stuttered. She couldn't believe what she had just heard,or that she had even heard it.
"George is not your father."Kate said slower this time.
Amanda was so stunned,she was speechless.She just let herself fall into a chair a cross from Kate's desk.

"Magda,why don't you call her on her cell,and see what's holding her up."CD suggested. Magda was just about to reply,when Amanda came running out of Kate's office,looking very upset,Kate close behind.
"Amanda please, wait!" Amanda paid no attention,and left.
"What!?"Kate exclaimed,when she noticed everyone staring at her.Then She too stormed out.



"Food's here!"Jinny said,walking into the division,carrying two large brown paper bags.
"Finally,what took you so long?!"CD asked,rushing over and grabbing a bag,looking threw it for her food.
"Oh,Shawn and I got to talking."Jinny replied."Hungry CD?"
"Yes!"she said,her mouth full of food.
"CD,don't talk,with your mouth full."Magda scolded,passing out the rest of the food."Nate,you had the BLT right?"
"Yeah"
"here ya go"She handed his food to him.
"thanx"
"I had the grilled chicken sandwich."Raina told Magda.
"Oh,Jinny,you just missed it! She was just about to fill Jinny in on what had happened between Kate & Amanda,when Magda gave her a look."Nevermind,it wasn't all that juicy"
"Okay" Jinny gave Raina a puzzled look,and started to walk out of the division.
"Where ya going,Jin?"Magda asked.
"to pee"
Magda just rolled her eyes at her friend's lack of tact.


When Jinny walked into the bathroom,she could hear Kate talking on her cellphone,and she sounded upset. "Maybe we can get a clue as to what is going on."she thought to herself,and started to listen more closely.

"No,no, I didn't tell her,I wanted to talk to you first.She asked though............She hates me.......Yes she does,she told me!....She called me a lying b*tch,and.........Come on,how would you feel
if your mother told you that your father wasn't really your father,and she had been lying to you and him all your life!?..........She told me I wasn't her mother anymore!!"

Jinny's eyeballs were already about ten feet in diameter at this point.She couldn't believe what she was hearing."Who is she talking too!?!"Jinny thought. Surely it wasn;t who she thought it was. Her suspicions were soon to be confirmed.

"I know...I know,I'm just........How are they gonna react, I mean, John,Casey,and.....Oh god,I can only imagine what Jinny'll do when she..."

"Finds out?" Jinny made her presence known.
Kate whirled around,when she heard Jinny's voice,from behind her.She just sat staring up at her for a few moments,she didn't know what to do,what to say,and worse,what Jinny would do,or say.
"Uh...John I...I'll call you back."She said into her cell,realizing he was still on the line. She didn't give him a chance to reply,before she turned it off.
"Let me get this staight...."Jinny began almost too calmly.

"That..that's about the sum of it."Kate nodded in responce.She didn't like the term Jinny'd used,but now wasn't the time to give a lesson on tact.

"A..Amanda...is... my SISTER?" Jinny ran her fingers through her hair.

"Yeah." Kate mumbled,The calmer Jinny stayed,the more nervous she got.

"And, why the h*ll didn't I know about this!?!" She shouted,when it finally hit...Amanda McCafferty was her sister.

"Jinny,John didn't know till the other night.......at Antonio's"

"You got some gum,I REALLY need some gum right now."Jinny asked with a sigh.
"Sure,let me see."Kate replied,a got mup and went to her locker.
She was actually relieved in a way,that Jinny finally got mad,she was starting to scare her,she was so calm. Especially for Jinny.


"I wonder what's taking Jin so long."Magda thought out loud.
"What I wanna know is,what's going on with Captain." Raina stated,taking a bite of her chicken sandwich.
"Yeah,they both looked Pretty upset."Nate added in.
"I know."CD agreed."I've never, in all the 12 years I've known Kate McCafferty,ever seen her that upset."

"Thanx"Jinny replied sticking a piece in her mouth.
"How exactly did this happen??"
Kate couldn't help but give her a look.
"Okay,I know HOW it happened,but..................HOW did this happen?!?"
"I know what you what meant."Kate sighed.
"It was right after your mother......uh.......,and John was upset,and I was upset,she was my friend,after all,and............ya know,I just....needed somebody,and John was there...and.."Kate's voice trailed off as more tears made their way down her cheeks,She couldn't take this anymore,she just wanted to crawl under a rock and hide.She wanted to kill George for getting in a car accident.If he hadn't got in that d*mn accident,everything would still be hunky-dory,no one would know that John was Amanda's father,and most of all Amanda wouldn't hate her. She hated being hated,sure she knew there were people out there who did,but acctually being told to her face,and by her own daughter,was a whole nother story.

"He was out of town,...probably screwing the receptionist at his hotel."

"But why didn't you tell us?!?"Jinny began to raise her voice again.She wasn't fond of the fact,Kate McCafferty,and her father had had *relations*,she wasn't fond of it at all.But she wasn't mad either.It was the fact that she'd always wanted a sister,and come to find,had always had one,that pissed her off.

"Jinny,please don't yell,I can't handle anymore yelling.I swear if one more person yells at me I'll explode!"Kate rubbed her head,trying to stop the beginings of a major headache.

"I...I'm sorry"Jinny lowered her voice some."I just wanna know why you didn't tell us."

"I...I thought I was doing the right thing,what was best for everybody.I mean,it was just after your mother had.......,and I figured a new baby was the last thing,your father needed,let alone wanted.And how would we explain to everyone,our friends & family,you guys........Casey was too young to understand what was happening.How you have felt,I mean your mother had even been dead....." Jinny put her hand up to stop her,She knew what Kate gonna say next,and she didn't want her to say it.

There was an awkward silence for a few minutes,as Jinny & Kate sat thinking,neither knowing what to do or say next.
For Kate it was the overwhelming fear that Amanda would never forgive her. For Jinny it was a rush of mixed emotions:shock,anger,excitment,fear,hope,hurt,sympathy.It was all going through her head at once,and she couldn't stand it.

"I,uh...I need to let all of this sink in,"Jinny patted Kate's shoulder reasuringly,why, she didn't know,she just felt like she needed to do it."You mind if I leave,I'll make it up tomarrow?"

'Uh....no,go ahead."Kate looked up at Jinny in suprise.She'd taken all of this a h*ll of alot better then she'd thought she would've."Bye"

"Thanx,I'll,uh..see ya tomarrow."Jinny replied and left the bathroom.


"I'm gonna go check on Jinny"Magda stated,standing up.
"I wouldn't if I were you."Raina replied.
"why not??"
"Because here she comes." Raina pointed out into the hall.
"She looks upset too"Nate commented.
"Hey Jin"Magda said,as she walked into the division.Jinny just ignored her,grabbed her jacket,and started to leave again.
"Where ya going?"
"Home"Jinny said matter-of-factly.
"Why,are you sick?" Magda asked in concern.
"No,I just.......need to think about some things."Jinny replied,and left before anyone else had a chance to ask her anything.
"What was that about?"CD asked,even though she knew no one else knew either.
"What is with people today?!"Raina threw her hands in the air.
"First Amanda,then Captain,now Jinny!"
"You,think whatever's wrong with Jin,has something to do with Cap,and her daughter?"Nate asked.
"I don't know,it's a possibilty,I guess."CD replied."But,I think this discussion has just come to an end,here comes Cap."
Kate had regained her composure,but it was still evident that she had been crying,alot.

"Yes,Raina"she went into her office and shut the door.

Kate picked up the phone and dialed a number,as she sat down at her desk.
"Hi,sorry I hang up on you like that......Yeah,Jinny knows...... Uh,well she took it a whole h*ll of alot better then I thought she would've.......She left......I don't know......" She and John Sr. continued to talk.


"Amanda McCafferty is my sister.Amanda McCafferty is my father's daughter...."Jinny kept repeating to herself.She was now sitting at a redlight at an intersection. "Kate McCafferty and my father had.......Oh god!!"She slammed her head against the stearing wheel,accidently causing it to honk. "Oh god,that was not a site I wanted to see!" She exclaimed shaking her head. People began to honk their car horns at her,she hadn't realized that the light had turned green."alright I'm going!" She drove straight ahead through the intersection. "Music,music will help you get your mind off things" She told herself,turning on the radio. "oh great now you're talking to yourself." Then Shakira's Underneath Your Clothes came blasting out of the speakers. "Oh,d*mn!"
Jinny yelled as the image of her dad,and Kate slowly krept back into her mind.

"Kate,we might as well tell everyone now,tell Amanda who I am."
John Sr. was talking to Kate on the phone. "Kate,must you be so glum about all this? I'm personally happy.........No,no she doesn't hate you........she's,she's just blowing off steam....Kate,Kate calm down.......listen I gotta go,Jinny's here....okay,bye" He put the phone back on it's cradle. "Hi Jinnygirl!" He was trying to sound as cheery as possible. inside he was getting more nervous by the second. "Hi Dad" Jinny said"Bye Dad." She headed up the stairs.
"W...where are you going,Jinnygirl?"
"to take a shower"


"Jill?!....Jill,you here?!" Amanda called out to her girlfriend,Taking off her coat. She had just got home.

"haha,very funny! As a matter of fact I did,and it turned out rather nicely this time! Now come on and eat!"
"Okay,okay! Let me get dressed!"


"George Parillo isn't my father."
"What? I...I don't understand." Jill replied,sitting next to Amanda who was laying on the bed.
"I found out today,that the man I have called Dad all these years isn't my father at all. What's so hard to understand?! My dad is not my dad!" Amanda snapped.
"Hey,don't get snappy with me,Okay! all I did was ask a question!"
"I..I know,I...I'm sorry,I didn't mean to,i'm just..."
"What?" jill layed down beside her.

Jill just sat there and hugged Amanda while she cried,She didn't know what to say or do to make her feel better.


Jinny had been jogging for quite a while now.She didn't know where she was going or when she would head back home,and didn't
really care either. "Ouch!" She exclaimed,when she felt a sudden sharp pain in her side. She leaned against the side of a building,to catch her breath. "God,it hurts to breath." She thought. "Guess I could call Dad,to come get me." She walked down the sidewalk a ways to the nearest payphone. " Damn!"
She thought out loud.The payphone was dead. Looking around for another,she realized she was right in front of Anchorside.
" We'll just go ask Shawn if we can use the phone in there." Jinny paused for a moment before going in.

"Hey,Jinny what are you doing?" Shawn asked. He was cleaning a table right by the entrance.
"Hi, I was hoping you'd let me use the phone,the payphone out there is dead."
"Oh,sure. It's right behind the bar,just tell Mike I said it was okay." He smiled.
"Thanx" Jinny smiled in return,and headed toward the bar.
As she neared the bar,she heard a very familiar voice.

"okay that's it,I'm cutting you off!" Mike said sternly.
"Oh come on Mike! Please, just one more,ONE more,please?!"

When Jinny finally spotted where the familiar voice was coming from,she couldn't help but smirk.
"Hi Captain" Jinny said,sitting on the stool beside her.

"Jinny,you're my hero,if you get her out of here." Mike said,jerking the empty glass out of Kate's hand.

"She's drunk on her a$$,and she still nit-picks!" Jinny remarked.
" I'll make ya a deal,you let me use the phone,and I'll get her outta hear."
"You got a deal,except the phone's in use at the moment,can ya wait?"

"Here's her car keys" Mike said handing them to her.

As they made their way to the exit,Kate passed out in Jinny's arms. "Oh god!" Jinny struggled to support her. "Wake up" She smacked her face.

Jinny looked around to see who was talking to her. "Oh,hi"
"Hi,need some help?"
She glanced down at Kate,unconscious in her arms." Well,normally, I would make some sarcastic remark and walk away,but she's getting kinda heavy,so...."
"Here" Teddy said,picking Kate up. "where too?"
"Thanx." Jinny sighed. "I don't know,I walked here,figured I'd drive her car."
"Oh" He replied as they walked out the door.

"what kinda car are we looking for?"
"It's a,uh...dark green Mustang convertable,I think." Jinny Replied
"She probably parked at the division,and walked over."
"Well,lets go see" He said and started across the crosswalk.
"What?" He asked,when Jinny suddenly burst out laughing.
"It...it's just...that....it's just that this is so ironic!"She managed to say in between cackles.
"Huh?"
"Come on...di..did you ever expect to see me,Jinny Exstead,he...helping her out of a bar?!"
"Oh!" Teddy began to laugh,not quite as hard as Jinny though.
"It's like a...to...total role reversal!" Jinny began to laugh harder.
"Thats her car over there."
"You sure?"
"Yeah,see the tag that says Kate on the back of it?"Jinny unlocked the doors as they walked up to it.
"Huh?" Kate came to slightly,as Teddy put her in the car."Oh,hi there handsom" She grinned,and passed out again.
Jinny grinned as she held in her laughter. "Thanx,for the help,I'll uh...see ya around."
"You'll see me sooner then you think,I'm following you,make sure you make it alright."
"Teddy,you don't have to..."
"I want to, Jinny" He interupted,starting toward his car before Jinny could protest again. She starred at him,and shook her head. "I wish he would make up his mind"Jinny thought out loud.
He had said he didn't even want to be friends,but now this was the second time he'd come to her rescue.
"Mmhmm" Kate mumbled,She was barely conscious.
Jinny just chuckled,and got in the car,and drove away.

"She's unconscious." Jinny shut the passenger side door.

"Because she's drunk" Teddy made his way up the porch.
"And,you are?" John Sr. asked holding the door open for him.
"Oh,I'm sorry. Dad, Teddy Blumenthol. Teddy,this is dad."Jinny introduced the two,as they walked inside.
"Nice to meet you." Teddy said. "Uh,where do you want me to put her?"
"Yeah,you too. Uh,I guess put her Casey's old room."John Sr. took another drag on his cigarette.
"Follow me." Jinny motioned,walking upstairs.

"Right in here." Jinny said holding the door to Casey's old room open for Teddy. "Just put her on the bed."
"Okay" Teddy said,laying Kate down on the bed. He began laugh a little.
"What?"
"Oh,nothing.It's just that I never thought I'd see Kate McCafferty drunk,period. Let alone you helping her out of a bar."
"Yeah,well Times change,...people change." Jinny mumbled. Pulling her hair out of her face,she realized the awkwardness of the situation. And so did he.
"Yeah,....uh,well I guess I'd better go. It's getting late." He said,looking down at his watch.
"Yeah." Jinny nodded. "Listen thanx for the help."
"Oh,no problem at all. Glad I could be of service."
"Oh,you were,I don't know how,I would've got us to her car,on my own."
"Well,I guess I'll see you at work." Teddy walked towards the bedroom door. "Bye"
"Bye." Jinny ran her fingers through her hair. "Uh, I guess I'll walk you out. I...uh,I gotta get her purse anyways."
"Okay." Teddy reached his hand out for Jinny's. Jinny looked at it for a moment before taking it. "Dear god,I wish he'd make up his mind!" She thought as they walked out hand in hand.

"Well,uh...I guess I'll see you at work." Jinny said letting go of Teddy's hand, and stopping by Kate's car.
"Yeah. uh ,hey what do ya say,you and me grab some lunch tomarrow?" Teddy replied walking to his car,parked behind Kate's.

"Uh,how's 1 o'clock sound?"
"1 o'clock's fine." Jinny opened the driver's side door,of Kate's car.
"I'll see you tomarrow."
"Bye." Teddy drove off.

"Okey dokey,Miss Katie,while you sleep it off,I'll just figure out who to call,to come get you." Jinny said to the air,as she sat down on the couch,and rumaged through Kate's purse,for her address book. "Hmm..and while we're at we might just accidently-on purpose snoop a little bit." She began to do so.
"Jinny,what are you doing?"
"Oh,nothing!" Jinny said,shoving a few things back into kate's purse.
"It don't look like nothing."
"Oh,all right,fine. I was looking for Captain's address book,to find somebody to call,and the temptation just grew to strong to fight."
"You were snooping."
"Not exactly"
"Jinnygirl" John Sr. raised an eyebrow.
"okay,fine I was snooping."

"But,nothing! I'm going to bed." He said walking upstairs.

"Hello?" Jill answered the phone. "Yeah,just a minute. Amanda phone."
"This is Amanda..." She took the phone. She'd finally calmed down some.

'Hi,Amanda. This is Jinny Exstead,I'm an inspector.....Yeah.....uh,listen I was at a Anchorside tonight,and your mom was there, anyways she was drunk,and she passed out,and since I didn't know where to take her,I brought her home with me,and....."

"Well,Inspector,i'm sorry you went to all the trouble you did,you should have just left her there,She probably would've just found her some young hot guy,and went home with him,if you know what I mean.."

"Don't talk about about your mother like that,she...."

"I'll talk about her how ever I want,I hate her,infact I don't consider her my mother..."

"Don't you ever say that! Don't ever say you hate your mother,because you don't mean it,and you might not get the chance to take it back! okay,She's not gonna be on this earth forever,so cherish every moment you have with her,while you
still can!" Amanda had hit a touchy subject with Jinny. "Okay,you have every right to be angry with her right now,but she was only trying to protect you! She was trying to do what was best for everyone,and she thought that not telling you or anyone that your dad isn't your real father was the right thing to do! So cut her some slack. Be glad she loves you enough to do something like that. Can you imagine how hard it must've been to keep a secret like that all these years!" Jinny ran her fingers through her hair. "God,why don't I take my own advice!" She thought to herself.

"H..how do you know...about..."

"I,uh....I...also know who your real father is.."

"What?! Who!?how do you know..tell me!"

"Uh,...Why don't you come over here,and we can talk." Jinny Sighed. "My and my big mouth!' She thought.

"Uh,...okay,whats the address?" Amanda grabbed a peice of paper and a pen.

"Uh,you know where Swanson Park is right?.....okay,that
subdivision behind it......yeah,you turn into it,then make a left on
Walnut Street.It's the 6th house on the right,your mom's car is in the driveway."Jinny explained.

"Okay got it,We'll be there in 20 to 30 minutes." Amanda,hang up the phone,and grabbed her coat. "Jill,come on!
"Where are we going?"
"To find out who my father is." She tossed Jill's coat to her.
"What?"

Jinny hang up the phone,and let out a long colective sigh."Better go tell Dad." She mumbled to herself,and got up. and was startled to learn she wasn't alone in the room.
"Sorry,I didn't mean to startle you."
'It's alright,..h...how long have you been standing there?"
"Long enough to hear you stick up for me." Kate rubbed her head.
"And tell her you know who her father is."
"She's kinda also,on her way over."
"Yeah,heard that too."
"This isn't exactly how you'd planned to tell her is it?"
"Well, I hadn't planned on being drunk,if thats what you mean."
"Sorry,she just said the wrong to the wrong person. Come on,I'll make ya a Jinnygirl."

"It's a buzz killer,my own special recipe." Jinny said walking into the kitchen.
"What does it have in it??" Kate followed close behind.
"Stuff" Jinny replied. getting out 2 eggs,and cracking them into a glass,and adding some V-8,some club soda ,and just a little bit of day old coffee. "Here,chug this."
"Uh,I don't think so!"
"You wanna sober up,quick don't cha?"
"Yeah,but.."
"Drink that,I'm gonna go tell dad,his other daughter is on her way over,to meet him." Jinny called from the living room.

She rushed over to the sink,and barfed.
"Told ya ,it'd sober ya up." Jinny chuckled,walking back into the kitchen.
"Oh god!" She said,wiping her mouth with a dish towel.
"Feel better?"
"I sure as h*ll feel sober!"
"Like i said,It'll sober ya up!" Jinny smirked.
"And where did you come up with your most effective buzz killer?"
Kate asked.
"My secret."
Just then John Sr. walked in,wearing a light blue shirt,and a dark blue tie,and black slacks.
"I see you're up." He said to Kate.
"Yes I am,you got any aspirin?"
"cabinate by the refrigerator." Jinny said. "Why are you so dressed up? you didn't even dress that nice for John Jr's last wedding."
"Was there much point? this was after all his 4th wedding excitement is gone." he replied.
"Well, you have a point there."
"Besides I'm meeting my daughter for the first time,I want to look nice."
Jinny & Kate exchanged glances. " Dad,it's 12:15 am.."Jinny
Just then the doorbell rang. "Well,this is it." Kate sighed.
They all walked into the living room. "You,get the door,Jin"
"Okay." Jinny answered the door.
"Hi, Jinny?"
"Yeah,hi,come on in." She opened the door wider.

glad yall like my fic! I've been busy lately,thats why I haven't added in a while. I'm probably gonna re-write some of the last part i posted,I just realized when I read back over it,that Kate kinda sobered up EXTREMELY fast LOL ,anyways,I'll add more ASAP.

okey dokey, I'm gonna re-write from where Amanda asked Jinny
how she knew about her dad not being her dad,so here's more.....


'H...how do you know..about - -"

"I,uh...I gotta go..." Jinny started to hang up the phone,but...

"No,wait! How do you know that - -"

"I..I just do!"with that Jinny hang up before Amanda could say anything else.
"God,Big mouth! I think you're spending too much time with Magda" She wispered to herself. Sighing,She looked down at her watch, "11:45" pushing her hair behind her ear,she got up and went upstairs.

Walking into his bedroom,Teddy sat his glass of water down on the nightstand. He started to get in bed,but changed his mind. Instead ,he walked over to his dresser,opening one of the drawers,he pulled out a framed picture. It was a picture of him and Jinny. "Maybe she has changed." He thought out loud. He stared at it for a few minutes,before setting it on his dresser,and getting in bed.


The next morning Kate woke up with a splitting headache. once her eyes had adjusted to the light,she sat up and looked around.
The place looked familiar,but she still didn't know where she was.
Getting out of the bed,it took her a second to reclaim her balance.
She left the room. Stepping out into the hallway,she walked over to the top of the stairs,and looked down into the living room. Then it hit her, "Dear,god! not again!" She thought outloud. realizing where she was.

"Morning,Sunshine!" Came a familiar voice from behind her. She turned around too see where the voice had come from. There stood Jinny,a towel wrapped around her,drying her wet hair with another smaller one. "Did,ya sleep well?" Jinny asked sarcasticaly.

"aperently so,since I have no earthly idea as to how the h*ll I got here." Kate replied rubbing her eyes.

"ooo,somebody's grumpy,when they got hang-over."

Kate just gave her a mean look.

"There's coffee,in the kitchen,if ya want some."

"Okay,thanx" kate said,as she started to make her way down the stairs.
" No,prob." Jinny went on into her bedroom, to get ready for work.

"Good Morning!" John Sr. greeted,sticking his head out of the kitchen,when he heard someone coming down the stairs.
"How are you?" He asked when he saw that it was Kate.
"Peachy" She grunted.
"You sound like Jinny." John Sr. poured another cup of coffee,and handed it to her.
"Good to know" Kate took the cup from him," thanx"
"No problem."
"Ya mind answering a question for me?" Kate took a sip of her black coffee.
"Shoot"
"What the h*ll am I doing here?"

"Uh,..well, Jinny went out jogging,and came back driving your car,
you were passed out in the passenger seat,and some guy named Teddy followed you two here,and carried you in. Thats the extent of my knowledge."

"Blumenthol?"

"Yeah,I believe that was it." John Sr. got out a pan,and sat it on the stove. "Want some eggs?"

"No,thanx."

"Good choice." Jinny said walking into the kitchen.

"Huh?" Kate asked,taking another sip of her coffee.
" Good choice,not eating my dad's cooking. It's lethal."
"Haha,very funny." John Sr. handed her a cup of coffee.
"Thanx,I thought so." Jinny smirked.
"The bathroom's still in the same place it used to be right?" Kate asked.
"Sure is." Jinny replied.
"Good." Kate darted out of the kitchen,across the living room,and up the stairs. Jinny burst out laughing after a moment.
"Jinnygirl,it's not funny."
"Yes it is!"
John Sr. looked out into the living room,and had to supress laughter himself.

As Jinny came up the Stairs she heard the toilet flush.Shortly after the bathroom door opened and out walked Kate. "Here" she said,handing Kate the cup of coffee she had left in the kitchen.

"Thanx."Kate took the cup. "And shut up."
"What? I didn't say anything."
"No. And I'm not blind,I can see that smirk on your face.I know what you're thinking."
"What am I thinking?"Jinny sipped her coffee.
"You're thinking,that me having a hang-over is the funniest thing you've ever seen."
"Naw,actually, You being drunk is the funniest thing I've ever seen."
"Ha-ha." Kate ran her hand through her messy hair. "Listen,thanx for,uh.....getting me outta....there last night."
"No prob."
"And if you breathe a word of this to anybody,and I do mean anybody! I will kill you!"
"I won't tell a soul." Jinny replied with a huge grin on her face.
"I mean it Jinny! don't tell anybody!"
"I won't."
"Okay then. Can I use your hair brush?"
"Sure it's the blue on the sink." Jinny chuckled,pointing to the bathroom.

"Jinny,Phone!" John Sr. called from down stairs. Kate put her hand to her head and whispered, "ouch." as she went into the bathroom.
"Coming!" Jinny replied,still laughing as she started down the stairs.
"Shut up!" kate called from the bathroom.


"Hello?" Jinny said into the phone.
"Hi,Jinny.It's Teddy."
"Yeah,Hi." Jinny tucked her hair behind her ear. "H...how are you?"
"I'm good.....You?"
"Good."
"Listen,I was just calling to make sure we're still on for lunch today."
"Yeah,yeah we're still on. 1 o'clock right?"
"Right. Well,uh...I guess I'll see ya then"
"Okay,see ya then."
"Okay,well, I gotta get to work,so,uh.."
"Yeah,me too."
"Okay,talk to ya later."
"Yeah,uh...bye." Jinny hang up the phone. "God,with the mixed signals!" She thought to herself.

"I'm...gonnna...go." Kate said,coming down the stairs.
'Yeah,I should get going too." Jinny added. " your keys are in your purse."
"Have a good day,Ladies."John Sr. said lighting up a cigarrette.
"Ugh, are you ever gonna quite smoking?" Kate grabbed her purse off the coffee table.
"Oh,now don't you get on my back too." He replied.
"Bye,Dad" Jinny said,as she and Kate walked out the door.

"Dear god! It's bright out here!" Kate exclaimed,putting her arm over her eyes.
"Good morning Mr. Sunshine!" Jinny put her hand on Kate's shoulder,and waved at the sun with her other.
'Mr. Sunshine, can bite me!." Kate said walking to her car.
You want my shades?"
No,thanx,I got a pair in the car."
Opening her car door Jinny Started laughing again.
"Will you shut up?!"
"I just realized something."
"What?"
"This'll be the first time in history,that I have beaten you too work."
'Kate rolled her eyes,"Jinny,you laugh like a hyena."
"Thank you." Jinny answered sarcasticaly.
They each got in their cars and drove off.


"Wonder where Cap is." Magda thought outloud. "It's not like her to be late."
"She's probably just caught in traffic or something.' Jinny offered. Trying to cover up for her.
"Probably."
"I know where she is." Raina spoke up.
"Where?" CD asked.
"Right there." She pointed to the door as Kate walked in.
"Morning,Cap!"She greeted cheerfully.
"Morning,Raina."She mumbled and continued toward her office.
"You okay,Cap?"
"I'm fine. Just....got a headache."
"oh.sorry to hear that. any thing I can do?"
"You can lower your voice."
"Oh,sorry."
"I like your Shades,Cap!" Jinny said,deliberately making her voice more high pitched.
"Thanx." Kate went into her office.


"Hey,How's about chinese for lunch?" CD suggested.
"Sounds good." Jinny replied.
"cool with me." Raina agreed putting some files in one of her desk drawers.
"Fine with me." Magda said.
Nate just nodded.
"Cool,I'll order." CD picked up the phone and began to dial.
"somebody go ask Cap if she wants anything."
"Okay." Jinny got up and knocked on the open door of her office.
"Yeah?"
"We're getting Chinese,you want anything?"
"Um..yeah,I want....."


"Inspector Exstead?"
"Yes?" When Jinny turned around to see who the hand on her shoulder belonged to,her eyeballs nearly poped out of her head.
"Amanda!"
"Yeah,we need to talk." Amanda got staight to the point."Is there some place we could have a little more privacy?" She asked looking around at the four faces that were now glued to them.
"Uh.....sh..sure,uh..." Jinny stood. "Sh*t!" She mumbled to herself as they walked out of the division.
"Huh?"
"N...nothing,I didn't say anything."


"Raina where do you think you're going?" CD raised an eyebrow
"To use the restroom."
"uh-huh" Nate added in disbelief.
"Uh-huh." Raina nodded walking out of the division. Though she did go to the bathroom,it was not use it's facilities.

she heard Jinny and Amanda talking,

" What all do you know about my dad?"
"I...uh,well...I know...that your mom lied too you about who he is....uh.."
" How do you know??"
"Uh..She...she told me." Jinny sighed."Should I tell her??,No you shouldn't,Cap should. But what if she asks?no,no Cap should tell her,she's her mother.But it might be easier if I did,...for everybody..." Jinny was brought out of her thoughts when Amanda spoke to her,
"My...my mother?" She asked.
"huh? oh,y...yeah."
"Did she tell you who my real father is?"

Raina couldn't belive what she was hearing. Ooo,this was some juicey gossip! Her Captain had been lying to her daughter about who her father is!...

"uh....um,uh...."Jinny didn't know what to tell her.
"She did,didn't she."
".......uh......"
"Inspector?...."Amanda proded.
"...Y...yes,she did."
"W..who?? Who is he? You have to tell me,...please!"
"No,I..I can't,I...."
"Inspector,please!..You have to tell me!"
"I can't!"

"Oh...my...god!!"Raina thought to herself."Who!? Who!? Who is Amanda's father?! Tell us! Tell us!!" She couldn't stand the suspence.It was all she could do,not to go out there and grab Jinny by the shoulders,shake the iformation out of her. So too speak.


"Why not??"
"I...I don't know,I..I just don't think I should be the one to tell you! I think she should tell,I think she wants......
"No,no I'm not talking to her,no. Not talking to that slut ever again!"
"Take that back! She's not a slut! Don't ever say that about your mother! You might not..." Once again Amanda had said the wrong thing to Jinny.
"Save it! Okay,I heard what you said last night!You maybe right,But,You don't know how it feels to rush to your dad's side,ready and willing to do anything you can to keep him alive,only to find out that you can't do a d*mn thing,because you're not his daughter!To find out that your mother,the one person you thought you could always trust,has been lying to him and you, your entire life!! So don't give me advice until you forgive your mother for betraying you like
that!!"
"Yeah,well You don't know what it's like tell your mother ,one morning as you leave for school,that you hate her,And come home that evening ready to apologize and find her in the bathroom laying in her own blood,with half of her head missing!! Do you!?! Well,I do!
At least your mother is alive to betray you,she didn't blow her own brains out. Everyday,I wish I could have just a little more time with her,god,just long enough to tell her I'm sorry." Jinny was now sitting in the floor,against the lockers,crying.

Raina knew she shouldn't be here,and she kept telling herself to leave,this was a private moment.
But she just couldn't ,this was just too juicey.


Amanda stood there stunned at what Jinny had just said.
"I...I...I'm sorry" She said,nealing down next to her and putting her shoulder. They sat there in silence.
"Ya really wanna know who your father is?" JInny finally spoke up.
Amanda just looked at her. "How's about you,Raina? You wanna know who Amanda's father is?"

Raina jumped clean outta her shoes.Jinny had scared her so bad.


"Come on Raina,I know you're there,I see your feet."
"Uh....."Raina slowly on into the bathroom.She looked back and forth from Amanda to Jinny.
"You already know just about everything, Might as well give ya the whole shabang." Jinny ran her hand through her hair. "Well?"
"Yeah,yeah I do." Amanda said getting up.
"Where ya going?"
"To find out who my father is." Amanda flashed a grin,and held her hand out for Jinny.

"No. What makes you ask?" Kate rubbed her eyes.

"Well,the sunglasses for one...."

"Nope,everything is fine. What can I do for you?"

"I wanted to talk to you about one of your inspectors..."

"It's not Jinny is it?"

"No,for once it's not. It's...."


"Wow,Nate you were right! Whatever is going on with Cap and Amanda does have something to do with Jin." CD looked at him in awe.

"yeah,I guess I'm a phsycic." Nate took a bite of his egg roll.
" What is it that's going on between them?"
"Magda,you know anything?" CD asked
"Not a clue."


"I,uh...I'm sorry about your mom,Jinny." Raina mumbled They walked out of the bathroom
"Yeah,me too." Jinny replied. Stopping and putting her arm around Raina, "But if yopu ever,and I do mean ever, eavesdrop on 1 of my private conversations again, I'll stuff ya in your locker."

"Sounds like a deal to me!" Raina said,pulling away from Jinny.

Amanda grabbed Jinny's arm as they neard the division doors,stopping her," I'm still pissed at,and probably wi- -"
'With good reason." Raina commented. "If my..." Her voice trailed off. Seeing the looks the were giving her,she thought it best to shut up. she backed up a couple of steps.

"And I probably will be for a looooong time." Amanda continued.stressing the 'long'. "But,I guess I could apologize for telling her she's not my mother anymore......"
"Yeah,ya could. it really crushed her."
"You dis owned her!?" Raina asked a little to loudly causing people to stare. 'Your disowned your mother!?" She said a little lower this time.
Just then Theodore walked up behind them,and putting his hand on Jinny shoulder." hey,how's Kate feeling?"
'Uh, she's fine..." Jinny said,Preparing herself to be attacked by Raina later on. "Little grumpier than usual,but okay."
"Oh" Teddy chuckled. "So, uh as soon as I get out of my meeting we can go to lunch. If you still wanna go."
"Oh,yeah,uh......" In all the commotion,She'd totally forgotten about lunch. "uh....."
"Do you still wanna go?"
"Uh..yeah I do, but something's come up. Can we make it dinner?"
"Sure,thats fine. so,uh....i'll just pick up at your house at 8?"
"Sure."
"Okay,bye."
"Bye." Jinny waved as he walked off.
"oooo,You & Counciler Blumenthol,going on a date!" Raina giggled
"It's not a date!" Jinny was somewhat embarrassed.
"You didn't have to cancel." Amanda sais as they walked into the division.

Just then Kate,and Charles come out of her office.
"Kate,I'll see you tomarrow." He said as he left the division
"I look forward to it." Kate said,looking through acase file."like an extra whole in the head." She mumbled as she handed the file to CD. "here,letme kno- - " Kate saw Amanda.
"Hi,Mom." She mumbled.
"Mandy."
"C...can we talk?"
"S...sure.." She replied walking into her office. Amanda and Jinny and Raina behind her. Jinny gave Raina a look,and she turned aroun and walked right back out,shutting the door behind her.
Kate looked Jinny puzzled.
"Uh....Inspector Exstead,.." Amand began
"Jinny." Jinny corrected.
"Jinny and I had a talk,and she gave me some advi some good advice..." She chose her words carefully. "And, I'm......sorry. I'm still pissed at you,but I'm sorry for the things I said to you,yesturday."
"I...it's okay." Kate didn't believe it. Jinny gave her daughter advice,and now her daughter was apologizing,what had she said to her? "Y...you had every right to- -"
"No,No I didn't,Yes you made a mistake,a HUGE mistake but,you still didn't diserve to told that you weren't my mother anymore."
Jinny just sat there quietly. "Jinny told me that she knows who my ,uh...." Her voice trailed off. "But she thinks,.......I want you to tell me....please?"
"Uh....." Kate looked at Jinny. she was shocked,and gratefull,and relieved. Jinny simply nodded her head.
"uh,okay...." Kate said,walking around her desk."Jus...just hold on a sec." She picked up the phone and dialed a number.
Amanda sat down beside Jinny.

"Hello?" A male voice came from the ear peice of the phone.
"Hi,John. It's Kate."
"Oh,Hi..."
"Listen,Amanda's here,and she wants to......"
"She wants to meet me?" John Sr. finished her sentence for her.
He sounded both excited and scared.
"Y...yeah. So can you come down to the sta--"She was cut off by the dial tone.
"Uh,he hang up......I guess he's on his way.."

"Mom?" Amanda brought her out of her trance.
"huh? oh...Yeah, His Name is John....Exstead."
Amanda nodded, "Wait a minute.... Exstead?" She looked at Jinny.
"Y...yeah." Jinny replied. she looked over to Kate, who motioned for her to go on. "I,uh....I...I..I'm your,uh.....sister."
"Your What!?"
"John, your real father, is Jinny's dad........also."
"Oh...." Was all Amanda could think of to say at the moment.
"Well,uh.....it's nice....to meet you..." She said, more of a question then a statement.
"Yeah, you......too."
"So, do I have any other siblings?"
"Yeah,...uh, 2 older brothers, John Jr - -"
"He's a jackass, by the way." Jinny commented.
Giving Jinny a look, Kate continued.,"and Casey."
" oh,....well can ya tell me something about them?"
"Well, as I said before, John Jr.'s a jackass,he's on his forth wife,curently. He has four kids--"
"I have neices and nephews?"
"yep, one niece, and three nephews.Jason,and Mark are step children."
"Oh. kewl. So tell me about....Casey?"
"Okay, um, he's 29,no kids. and his boyfriend Eric is really cute."
Jinny grinned.
"Boyfriend? He's- -"
"Yeah."
"Hmm, so am I." Amanda mumbled.
"Oh. Guess you should know, thats one of the things that makes john a jackass.."
"He's not too fond of Homosexuals?"

"Oh,...oh no reason." When actually Raina's mind was racin with ideas, "Oh my god!!,Cap & Jinny's dad! No,no surely not.
that's crazy.Of course this whole thing about her lying to Amanda is crazy.But no,he's Jinny's dad, thats - - Omy god! Jinny and Cap related!!Ooooo this is juicey!"

"Hi,John." Kate came around to the front of her desk,and leaned on the edge of it. "Amanda,...this is..John Exstead.......your father." She let out a huge sigh.
"Uh, Hi....i...it's nice too meet you." Amanda held out her hand for him to shake. She didn't know what else to do.
"Yeah, You too.' He replied, instead of Shaking it ,he kissed her hand.

"So,uh...How are you?" John Sr. asked.He didn't know what else to say.
"I'm good. And yourself?"
"I'm good. I am really glad to meet you . Uh, we've met before,actually. I just didn't know you were my daughter then,heh."
"We have? I don't remember." Amanda tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Yeah, just once or twice. You were little."
"Oh."
"Yeah, Uh Your Mother and I used to work together."
"Oh..." Amanda glanced from her mom, to John Sr." Hey, why don't we all go get some lunch or something."
"That sounds good." John Sr. agreed.
"Uh, Well I have work to do, youguys go ahead though." Jinny replied.
"Yeah I have work to do too,uh you guys can...."Kate's voice trailed off.
"Uh, yeah okay, We can just go. I..if thats okay with...you..."
"I'd like that. John Sr. Replied.


"Bye, guys." Jinny said to her Father and sister,as she sat down at her desk. "Have fun."
"Will do." Amanda replied.
"Hey, where's your dad, Cap's daughter going?" Magda whipered.rolling her chair over by Jinny's desk.
"Uh.....out to lunch."
"How come you and Cap didn't go?"
"We both have work to do." Jinny replied."Speaking of wich,do ya mind if I get back to doing it?"
"Okay,okay. Take some prozac." Magda replied rolling her chair back over to her own desk.
"I heard that!" Jinny began to go over some papers.
"Something came up,huh?" Theodore thought as he walked into the division,and saw that Jinny was still there.
"Hey, Jinny." He said as he walked over to CD and Nate.
"Huh?" She she looked up."Oh, uh Hi." Going back to her work she thought, "Great, now he thinks I was just blowing him off."

"Oh my god!!" Raina exclaimed.
She was flabbergasted. she still didn't have all the details. but what she did know, she thought was absolutely scandalous!
She couldn't wait to get all the story. "Oooo,that means Amanda is Jinny's sister!" She thought,her eyes wide. She couldn't stand it any more she walked over too Jinny and,
"So, I'm right aren't I? I'm tell me I'm right."she whispered
"Right about what,Raina?" Jinny looked at her, not very amused.
"ya know, about Amanda. Your dad and Cap, ya know,...and out came Amanda." Raina bounced her eyebrow up and down.
Jinny slapped herself on the forehead," Raina,it would have been much more humane to have just shot me,then to put that image in my head........again."
"Sorry."Raina held in laughter. "wait you said 'again', that means you've had it before! I AM right! I mean why else would you picture your dad, and Cap--" She was cut off when Jinny put her hand over her mouth.
"Raina, as God is my witness,if you do not shut up,you will never speak again."
"O..okay,I...I'm just...gonna go over .......Bye." Raina pulled Jinny's hand away and rushed back to her desk.


"So tell me about yourself. whats your life been like, do you have a boyfriend..."John Sr.'s voice trailed off,as he took a sip of his Pepsi.
"Umm, well, a...as you may know, My Mom,and....uh...." Amanda didn't if she should refer to George as her dad or what.
"Your dad?"
"Y..yeah, uh, they go devorced when I was five."
"Yeah,I knew..."
"Oh. Umm, I...I don't have a BOYfriend. I...I have a uh..GIRLfriend.
I...uh.- -"
"Oh.....Your ..uh..brother Casey s too."
"Uh,yeah...th...thats what Jiny said." Amanda took a bite of her cheese burger.
"Oh. So,uh...tell me about you girlfriend."
"Um,well..h...her name's Jill. We met at a mutual friend's birthday party. She is sooo great,she's smart,she's funny,she's kind,and caring,and---"
"It's sounds like you love her a lot."
"Uh,y...yeah, I guess...I do." Amanda replied. A little embarrassed at the observation he had made.
"Uh,....where starting a catering service together."
"Oh,wow. That's neat.......I'd love to try you cooking some time."
"Okay,kewl....so,uh....t...tell me about you.' Amanda asked, wanting the spot light off herself.

"What was that about?" Magda asked,rolling over to Jinny.
"What?"
"Raina...."
"Oh,that that was just Raina being her usual nosey self." Jinny looked over at Raina,who looked away when she saw Jinny look at her.
"Nosey about what?"
"She wanted to know what was going on with......Cap's daughter."
"What IS going on with you and Amanda and- -"
"What is this the Spanish Inquisition?? geez!"
"Okay,okay. geez yourself." Magda rolled her chair back over to her desk.



"......And thats how ,uh...you...came....about." John Sr.'s voice trailed off. It was evident that it was hard for him to talk about his wife,but he felt that Amanda needed,and had a right to know the whole story-- or his side at least. He himself didn't know everything on Kate's part.
Amanda nodded,she didn't know what else to do." Thanx,for....uh...for...telling me. I could tell it was hard for you to talk about......."
"Oh,it's okay. You had every reason to be curious,and.....a right to know."
"Sooo, tell me about..Jinny. She...uh,told a little about John,and...Casey...."
"Sure,......."

"Nate, CD,did you get anything new on the Wilson/ Mitchel case?" Kate asked walking out of her office. She exchanged glances with Jinny as she passed her desk.
"Not really." CD replied.
"Were gonna go talk to Mrs. Mitchell again. We think she may be hold back some information." Nate added.
"What was the kids Name?" Magda asked.
"Dennis, Dennis Mitchel." Nate replied.
"Oh, Ben went to school with him I think."
"God, what kind of person killes a 7 year old boy?" Kate asked no one inparticular.
"Well, from the stories I heard about the kid I don't that I wouldn't have done the same." CD said
"CD!"
"I was just joking,geez!." She chuckled.
Kate walked over ,leaning against Jinny's desk she asked trying not to smile, " So what about the Ramirez case?" It didn't work.
"Oh, will you shut up about that!?" Magda rolled her eyes. "Ramirez is a very common name."
"uh-huh."She was now trying not to laugh. it wasn't working very well either.
Jinny gasped," She told you too shut up! You told Cap to shut up!
I don't think I've ever even done that!"
"No you've just said worse to me." Turning to Magda,she said,
"As for you better watch,girl!"
"oooo, i'm sooo scared!"
"You betta be. Anyways,anything new on the....case?"
"Not really. We're gonna talk to the girlfriend again. We think she know's something,he may have threatened her."
Magda explained.
"Better then nothing." Kate sighed. Bending down she whispered something to Jinny,before she got up and started for her office.
"Why are you looking at me like that??" Kate stopped by Raina's desk.
"uh......I dunno." Raina quickley went back to work. Kate & Magda exchanged looks. Jinny just rolled her eyes.


"So, Casey & John Jr. don't know about me.....yet?"
"No not yet,I'm gonna tell them as soon as I can......Hey,why don't you..... and Kate come to Family poker night next week?"
He suggested, wiping his mouth and droipping the napkin on his now empty plate. "That way you can meet everybody!"
"Ummmm......"
"Oh, i...is it too soon....for you- -"
"Uh, no, no I'd like that. I'll have Jill teach me how to play poker."
She chuckled. She was starting to feel comfortable with John Sr. but she didn't know about this whole 'Family Poker Night' thing.
"Oh, y...you can't play?"
"Nope, I'm un beatable at Black Jack though."
" Well,then we'll just play black jack." He patted her hand.
"Okay." She grinned. "So uh when is 'Family poker night?"
"It's every wednesday."



"Jinny knocked on Kate's open door as she walked on in."
"Hey."
"Hey,shut the door,please."
"Okey dokey." Jinny did as she was told.
"How do you think it's going?" She sat down in a chair across from Kate's desk and propping her feet up on the desk.
"I dunno. I hope: good." Kate sighed. She smacked Jinny's foot down.
"Me too."
"Uh, thats something I wanted to ask you. how's it going with you? How do you feel about all of this?"
"Uh, well......I uh, I'm shocked.I'm extremely shocked. I'm pissed that ya never told us till now- -"
"I..I thought I was doing what was be- -"
"Yeah, I know." Jinny sighed. "God, My dad has a child with my Captain. that we didn't know about until yesturday. Scandalous!"
"Yeah, I know." Kate tried to laugh. 'But, aside from shocked......"
"Uh, well......I....I guess i...it's kinda .....kewl." Jinny ran her hands through her hair. "I don't really know. This is all happening....sooo fast. i uh...wondered what it would be like to have a sister.."
"Bad feelings?"
"Towards you?.... I guess...I don't know how I could. I haven't actually been in your shoes. But I sorta know what you were going through,and I can use my imagination. So I...I...think I....understand..."
"Thanx" Kate mumbled." Towards Amanda?"
"No,...uh,well she pissed me off with that whole.. ' I hate my...mom, blah blah blah....." Jinny voice trailed off. she thought that have been the wrong thing to say.
" Yeah, uh....thanx, for....uh..- - "
"No problem.". Jinny tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Oh, uh Raina ,kinda....knows."
"She does??"
"Yeah, she followed Me and Amanda into the bathroom, and then she put two and two together,........she's smarter then she acts."
Jinny tried to lighten up the mood.
Kate was about to say something,when there was a knock at the door. Soon after John Sr. and Amanda walked in.
"Hey,guys." Jinny greeted.
"So, did you have a good time?' Kate asked. as she gave Amanda a quick hug.
"uh, yeah." Amanda replied." I did...And,uh...we're going to 'Family Poker Night' next week."
"We are?"
"Yep" John Sr. sat down beside Jinny.

"Oh,yeah, well I'm gonna go,and let you get back to work.." John Sr. said.
"Yeah, me too." Amanda stood up as well."Iguess I'll see you guys later."
"Yeah" Jinny patted Amanda's shoulder.

She's acting secretive,more so then usual. They go into Cap's office, talk a little. Then John Sr. shows up,and goes in,the talk a while,and the he and Amanda go to lunch." Magda ran the events of the day through her head. " Cap, whispers something to Jinny,
Jinny goes to see Cap, alittle later, they talk for a while,then John Sr. and Amanda come back. They talk for a while,and Jinny and Amanda were cracking up about something. And Raina seemed all too eager to meet John......What the h*ll is going on?!?!"

Three of my favorite parts are when...Jinny finds out about her dad and Kate in the bathroom. I really loved when Jinny was driving home, and got the image of them in her head! Then of corse there was when Kate was drunk! LOL I loved reading it. Well I have loved reading everything that you have written so far, but those were a couple of my favs!

As far as my favorite parts . it would hands down haveto be the sence where jinny is talking to kate when there getting ready to go to work an jinny says hello mr sunshine and kate says something to the effect of Mr. sunshine can bite me. I also like the part where Jinny walks into the bar and the bartender is like help me please . It just cracks me up every time i read it.

There was silence for a moment then it was broken when Jinny started laughing to herself.

"Hello?" She heard a familiar voice ask.
"Hi,Teddy."
"Hi." He didn't sound too happy." Can I ask you a question Jinny?"
"What?"
"Where the h*ll were you!? I went to your house,and you weren't there. Your dad,said He didn't now when you'd be back.That he thought you were gonna work late tonight."
"Yeah,but- -"
"Look,jinny. If ya don't wanna go out,just tell me."
"I do want to,I- -"
"then why do you keep blowing me off?!"
"I wasn't blowing you off,I- -"
"It didn't look like something came up!"
"Something did come up!." Jinny switched the phone to her other ear.
"What? What came up?"
"I....I can't tell you."
"Oh,thats just great,Jin. could the reason that you can't tell me be, because nothing came up?
"No! Something did come up!
"Then, why can't you tell me?"
"I...I just can't d*mn it! Not yet!" Jinny yelled." Look, I'm sorry,okay? I had every intention of getting done in time to go to dinner with you. But I just lost track of Time.I didn't mean too,and I really am very sorry!" SHe turned onto the street that lead to her house.
Teddy didn't know if he believed her.but he was kind of worried now..why couldn't She tell him? If, there was anything for her to tel him., "Whatever,Jin. I gotta go."
"Wait,Teddy!" She stopped him froming hanging up.

"C...can we try again? I mean dinner,...please?" She asked pulling into her driveway.

"Oh my god!" Jill burst out laughing." I can't really see her doing that. She doesn't seem like the type to......blow up,like that."
"Ha! You don't know my mom very well do you??" She laughed.
"Hey,can you teach me to play poker?"
"Sure.....Why? you said no when I offered too."Jill replied,still laughing.
"Because, John invited me and mom to Family Poker Night."

Just as Kate put the key in the lock of her front door,the phone began to ring. "I'm coming,hold on."She said to who ever was on the phone." Come on!" She jiggled the key. But by the time she got the door open the answeriing machine had answered it.
"I gotta get that d*mn lock fixed."She ,mumbled,walking over and hitting the play back button,on the machine.

*Message*
"Hi,Kate,this is John. I was just calling to say,Hi,and how glad I am that you told Amanda,who I am."
"Hey,Dad!" Jinny's voice came in the background.
"We need to--"
"Hey Dad, is something burning?!" Jinny's voice was heard again.
"Oh,Sh*t! The stoves on fire! I gotta go, call me!"
'Dad! what the h* are ya trying to do?! Bar-b -que the whole house?!" Kate heard Jinny again just before the beep.

"Good,grief!"She laughed. as she picked up the phone,and dialed the number.


"Hello?" Jinny said into the reciever of her phone.
"Hi,Jin. Did ya get the fire put out?"
"Hey,Cap. Yeah, god I wish he'd stop trying to cook,for the House's sake if not ours."

"Yeah, I wanted to tell you that I'm planning to tell Casey...about Amanda tomarrow night." John sr. sat down on the couch.
".....What about John Jr.?" Kate layed the mail down on the coffee table,and took ker coat off,and layed it on the arm of the couch.
"I thought it might be best to wait till Poker Night too tell him. If I know my son, and I do, He's not gonna take this well. So I thought He might not make as big of a scene at poker night,if there's guests."
"Oh...."Kate hadn't thought about how John Jr. would take it. She hoped John Sr. was right too.
"Do...do you wann be there? Tomarrow,when I tell Casey?"
"Um........Y'know what,...I think it might be better if ya told'em by yourself." Kate headed for her bedroom to change into something more comfortable.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I mean this is a BIG thing, and I think i t would be easier for him to hear it,without me there. Y'know one step at a time. " Kate walked back into the living room,now in a pair of jeans,and a t-shirt.
"Yeah, I guess you right."John Sr. lit up a cigarette. Jinny inturn,took it from him,put it out,and threw it in the trash. "Oh,gimme a break will ya!"
"Huh?"
"Oh,no,not you. Jinny."
"What did she do?"
"She took my cigarette from me."
"Oh, well I'm glad."
"Oh,don't tell me your gonna start naggin' me too!"
"Every chance I get!"Kate chuckled.
"Ugh! thats all I need yet another one."
"Hey,If I can do it you can do it."
"You never smoked." John picked up his pack to get another out,but Jinny snatched if from him.
"I wouldn't be so sure about that."
"You used to smoke?"He asked in disbelief.


For some reason he couldn't get what Jinny had said on the phone off his mind. Teddy wasn't sure if maybe he should be worried , or, maybe it was a good thing. "It's probably nothing." He told himself,and tried once again to put it out of mind. But curiousity had a hold of him.


"Oooo,Yellow roses! I wonder who they could be from!"Raina said,Looking to Magda with a knowing grin,as she sat them down on Jinny's desk.
"I wonder."
"Well, I got news for both of ya. It's none of your business." Jinny replied,sticking the card,in her back pocket. She would read it later,when there wasn't a risk on Raina or magda seeing it.
"You're no fun." Raina went back to her own desk.
"I know." Jinny said, going over some papers laying on her desk." Don't even think about it,Mag." She said when Magda started to try and get the card out of her pocket.
"Fine."
"Can I read it?" CD asked.
"No. Noboby is reading it,but me."
"They're from Teddy." Magda informed CD.
"Oh,they are huh? So,you Teddy gettin' back together huh?"
"No,we are not. And what makes you sure they're from Teddy,anyways,Mag?"
"Come on Jin, of course they are."


"Well, I'm outta here."Kate said as she locked her office door. "Jin,ya tell your dad to call me later,please?"
"Okey dokey,Smokey."She replied,she had just finished reading the card that had come with the flowers.
"You're happy about something. Could it have anything to do with the twelve yellow roses that you got today?" Kate picked one up and smelled it.
"No.."
"You're lying,I can tell."
"How?"
"Ah,so,you are lying!"
"D*mn,I fell right into that one!"
"You sure did. Now who are they from?"
"Not telling ya." Jinny grinned.
"They're from Teddy." Raina piped up.
"Oh......."Kate raised both of eyebrows."Well,night guys."


"Hey,Jin." Casey kissed her on the cheek as he sat down beside her on the couch.
"Hey,Casey."She returned the kiss. 'How's it going?"
"Good,you?"
"Good."
"What is it that you guys want to tell me thats so important?"
"Uh,...lets wait for Dad." Jinny was actualy kind of nervous.
"Dad,come on!"Jinny called to him.
"I'm coming." He said,coming out of the kitchen,carrying two beers,one for him and one for Casey.
"Uh..thanx....." Casey looked to Jinny,as if asking permission.
"It's okay,Case."
"Okay." He opened it and took a sip. "So what is it that you want to tell me?"
"Uh.......Casey..." John Sr. had, tried practicing this moment,but all the different ways he tried to put it,hadn't seemed apropriate."Uh.....I don't quite know how to say this.... "
"What Dad?"
"Uh....."Hesighed,and took a big sip of his beer. "Y....You .....have a sister - -"
"Uh, Yeah, I know." He looked gave his father a strange look,and pointed to Jinny.
"No,I mean besides....Jinny."
"Say,that again." Casey wasn't sure if he had heard him right.
"Casey, we have a...sister, that- -"
"What!?" Now he knew what he had heard,and couldn't believe it.
"You,ha- -" John Sr. started to repeat.
"No,I heard what you said! I just....can't..believe that I'm hearing it!" Casey chugged his beer.
"W....Who...who is she?? H...how old is she?? Wh....Who is her mother??"
"Her...her name is Amanda......McCafferty. She...She's Twenty,and- -"
"Twenty?! and why the h*ll am I just now being told about her?!?
"Be...because,Kate didn't tell ME till last Tuesday."
"Kate?"
"Yeah, Kate McCafferty.....Amanda's mother."
"Kate McCafferty? Not......" He looked to Jinny questioningly.
"Yeah,Case. Captain McCafferty." Jinny read his mind.
"Oh....my.....god!!" He ran his hand over his face. "This....this is unbelievable."
"Tell me about it." Jinny agreed.
"H...how did this happen?"
"Well,Case,ya see......"Jinny started to try and lighten the situation,but decided against it. "Nevermind."
"Oh,well...." John sr. began to explain.

Kate sat on her bed, flipping through channels,but nothing was on TV. Not that she'd be able to pay attention to it if there was,She was too busy wondering how Casey was taking the news.Or if even He had told him,what if had chickened out or something.

"........Wow!!" was all Casey could say, it had really sunk in now,and he was so much shocked anymore just......stunned,if that makes since.
"S....so, a...am I gonna get to meet her?"
"Uh,y...yeah....uh,she and Kate are coming to poker night this week.,i....if...it's okay with....you."
"Y...yeah, Th....thats fine...."He mumbled. "So,uh.....why isn't John Jr. here?"
"Uh.....I...I decided to wait and tell him,...at poker night."
"Oh........" He took another sip of his beer,only to find out it was empty.


"Hello?" Kate answered her phone,she had dosed off just a few minutes before.
"Hey, It's John,did I wake you?"
"It's okay. So....how did it go?"
"Uh,well......He took it pretty good I guess. He was pretty d*mn shocked,thats for sure."
"Thats to be expected." Kate replied.



Standing in front of her mirror, Jinny couldn't decide between, a baby-blue sweater,and black slacks or the only dress she owned,which was black my the way. Finally after trying both of them on to see how they looked she decided on the sweater,and slacks.
She had just finished putting her hair in a french twist when John Sr. called upstairs," Jinny,Teddy is here!"
'Okay,I'll be down in a second." She replied,going back into her bedroom to geb her purse.
"Hi." Teddy said,when he saw her coming down the stairs. "You look great."
"Hi, Thanx. So do you." She replied. She walked over to the coat rack and got her coat.'Your ready to go?"
"Yeah,sure." He walked over to her. "here let me help." He took her coat,and hepled her into it.
"Thanx."
"No problem."
"Bye Dad." She gave him a quick kisson the cheek,before they left.
"Bye,Jinnygirl. You two be good now." He called after them.


Hehe, I gonna leave ya hangin' for a while.

The ride to the restaurant was pleasant,mostly small talk, but......pleasant.
"So,uh...Where are we going?" Jinny asked.
"We are going to Gigi's Italian." Teddy replied.
"Ooo,....sounds nice. I love Italian food."
"I know..." Teddy's voice trailed off,and there was an awkward silence in the car,until,
"Well,we're here." Teddy' said as they pulled into a parking space. He got and walked around to Jinny's side,and opened the door for her.
"Why,thank you." Jinny said,rather flirtatiously.
"You're quite welcome."

"Do you have reservations?" The Waitress asked,when they walked in the door.
"Yes, it's Blumenthol." Teddy replied.
The waitress looked in the reservation list, " Blumenthol,party of two?"
"Thats us."
"Right this way." The waitress picked up to menus and started for their table.

"Here you are. Your waiter will be right with you. Enjoy your meal." The waitress laid their menus on the table.
"Thankyou,we will." Teddy replied,as he pulled Jinny's chair out for her.
Jinny picked up her menu and began to look over it.
"See anything good?" Teddy asked.
"Actually .yes I do." Jinny smiled. "The lasagna looks delicious."
"Is that what you're having?"
"Yeah, I think I will."
"Good evening ,My name is Steven,and I'll be your waiter for the evening. Are you ready to order?"
"Yes, I believe we are. The Lady,and I both will have the Lasagna." Teddy looked at Jinny to make sure thats what she wanted. She nodded her head.
"And to drink?"
"Uh,....could I get an Iced Tea,plaese?" Jinny asked.
"Sure. Sweet or un-sweet?'
"Sweet. and with lemon,please."
"No problem."The waiter winked at Jinny. "And for you,Sir?"
"I'll have the same,uh...make mine un-sweet."
"Teddy,you can get something else - -"
"No,Tea is fine."
"Okay,well I'll be back with your drinks in just a moment." The waiter walked off.
"Teddy,you didn't have too- -"
"I know. But thats what I wanted."
"Whatever." Jinny shook her head,picking up a bread roll,and munching on it,till the food came.

"So,uh........"Jinny couldn't anything to say.The waiter had just taken their plates away.
"Uh......Jinny,listen..."Teddy hesitated.
"What?"
uh, first of all..I'm sorry for talking to you the way I did th- -"
"It's okay, I understand, I would be pissed too, If I had been stood - -"
"No , I mean I am sorry for that,but I mean that day at the coffee shop, I should have - -"
"It's okay- -"
"No it's not. I told you that I didn't even want to be friends,and you didn't deserve that,and......I didn't mean it."
"Really?'
"Yeah, infact...." He took a deep breathe
"Here is your bill,the waiter layed it on the table.
"Thank you." After the waiter left, Teddy continued what he was trying to say. "as I was saying.....I was...hoping, maybe......"
"Maybe what?" Jinny sipped her Tea.
"Maybe that we....could try again,just start completely over."
"..........Teddy, I.....I don't know,.....I mean....It didn't work the last time...and..." Jinny saw the hurt look in Teddy's eyes. She did want to try again, so bad. but she was also afraid too. "Just....let me think about it?"
"Okay." was all Teddy said.


"I,uh...I had a really good time." Jinny said,they were now standing on her front porch.
"Yeah,me too." Teddy replied. 'I...uh, I'm glad we did this."
"Yeah, me too."
"Well, I...guess I should get going,It's fifteen till midnight,and we both have to work tomarrow....."Teddy looked down at his watch.
"Yeah,I guess you're right." There was another awkward silence,neither of them knowing if that should make the first move or what.
Then Jinny spoke up, "Well,uh good night." She kissed him on the cheek. About that time the porch light came on.
"God, this is embarrassing. I feel like a teenager again." Jinny mumbled.
"Don't be." Teddy replied, kissing her on the cheek" Goodnight."


"Wow, you're in a good mood!" Raina commented.
"Huh?" Jinny asked. "What do you mean?"
"Well, you haven't stopped smiling all day."
"I have?" Jinny tried to stop,but she couldn't help it.She was in a smiling mood.
"Yes,you have."
"Does it have anything to do with Teddy??" Magda walked over and sat on Jinny's desk.



"No..." Jinny tried to lie,but she just wound up smiling even bigger.
"Ooo! It does!" Raina put down the file she was holding,and walked over to Jinny's desk.

"Jin,Mag, Cap wans to see ya." Nate informed as He and CD came out of her office.
"Okay." Magda said as the got up and made their way into Kate's office.

"Whats,up Cap?" Jinny asked,as she sat down in a chair across from her desk.
"Anything new on the case?"
"Nope. Nothing concrete. This dude covered his tracks well!"Jinny replied.
"Sorry." Magda added. "We're working on it though."
"It's okay, I know you are."Kate took a sip of her coffee. "Thats all I wanted to know."
"Okay." Magda,and Jinny started to leave.
"Oh,Jinny..."

"Uh,...I'm gonna go,...see if Raina's got a hold of the girlfriend yet." Magda took the hint,and shut the door behind her. "What the h*ll is going on!?" She thought on her way out.

"So, whatcha need?" Jinny asked,taking her seat once again.
"Listen,uh....I..I've been thinking about it alot,and.....I have no idea what you said to my daughter,.......I know I said this before I just.wanna say thanx again."
"Like I said before its problemi'm glad I could help."
"Yeah,me too." Kate smiled.
Jinny returned the smile, "So,uh....Anything else?"

"Uh, Yeah. just how high are the stakes gonna get ,on,uh......"
"Poker night?"
"Yeah."
"Why ya wanna know? You afraid you're gonna get your booty kicked?"
"No, I just don't wanna put you in more debt then you afford."
"Oh really Well I got news for ya: Nobody can beat me at poker."Jinny pointed to herself.
"Well, I got news for you too: I'm better."
"Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see,won't we."
"There's nothing to wait and see about, we already know who's going home witht the jack pot."Kate raised an eyebrow.

"Oh,She's not home yet."
"Oh...." Casey finished pulling out the leggs,and set the table up right. " When, is.....Amanda....gonna be here?"
"Uh, she said she'd be here around ...... 8:30 or so..." John Sr.'s voice trailed off.
"Y'know Dad, I am nervous about meeting her,but...I think I'm more nervous about how John's...gonna...take it."


Jinny was putting her coat on as,Kate was coming out of her office.
"Jinny, I'm nervous." Kate whispered, Nate and CD were still there.
"Yeah,me too." Jinny whispered back.
"Thats not very reassuring."
"I'm sorry." Jinny pushed her chair in,and started for the door. "Bye, guys."
"Bye Jin, Bye Cap." Nate replied.
"See you tomarrow." CD added.
"Bye" Kate said,as she and Jinny,walked out together.

"Okay, now tell me that didn't seem weird to you." CD pointed behind her
"Yeah, it did,a little, I guess." Nate nodded


Jinny pulled into her driveway, As Kate pulled up to the curb.
"Casey's here." Jinny informed, as Kate walked over to her.
Kate nodded in response. About that time,Amanda pulled up. Parking behind her mother,she got out and made her way over to her,and sister.
"Hey."
"Hi,Hunny." Kate put her arm around Amanda.
"Hey,how's it going?"
" ...Good, I guess...I'm kinda....very...nervous." She let out a nervous laugh,as they made their way inside.
"Don't be." Jinny replied opening the door,and going in. "Here." Jinny took their coats hang them on the coat tree by the door, along with her's.
"Hello,hello?!' John Sr. called as he came out of the kitchen,with a bag of chips imn on hand,and a bag of pretzels in the other.
Hey, Dad." Jinny said, taking off her holster,and laying it on the table by the stairs. "Where's Casey?" She asked,taking Kate's and laying in there as well.
"He's right here." Casey answered,walking down the stairs. "Uh,...Hi....." His voice trailed off,as he walked over too where his dad, his captain,and his newly found sister were standing.
"Casey, You know Kate,....This is....your sister,Amanda."
"Hi, It's- -"
"What do ya mean,his sister Amanda?"John Jr. asked. He had walked in just in time to catch the introductions.
"John, Hey!" John Sr. greeted, "Here we go!" He thought.
"Yeah,hi. So are ya gonna answer me or not? Whats going on here??"
"Well, looks like we're gonna have to wait a little longer to see who's better at poker." Jinny thought to herself.
"I'm still waiting." John Jr. said,when he still hadn't got an answer.
"Uh.....John,.um......" John Sr. had no earthly idea how he should tell him.
"What?"
"This...this is Amanda...McCafferty. Uh...Kate's and...my daughter...." His voice trailed off. He gestured between himself and Kate.
"What?!" John jr. couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Let me get this straight!" he turned to Amanda
"She is your daughter!?"
"Y...yeah." John Sr. replied. The tension in the room was already so thick,you could cut it with a knife.
"You're my sister?!"
"Y..yeah." Amanda mumbled. She felt very uncomfortable being there,but she couldn't leave either.
"John,just calm down,okay." Casey suggested.
"Shut up,Mary!" John Jr. turned back to John Sr. "And why the h*ll am I just finding this out now?!"
"Be...because - -"
"Because,he didn't know till recently." Kate piped up.
"John, calm down!"
He ignored Jinny and continued on his rampage.
"Oh, So I get it, I get it now!" He walked over to Kate. " You and my dad were f- -"
"John!!" Jinny screamed at the top of her lungs.
"You better back off,Little girl!" John Jr. made a fist at her.
"Okay,so what..." He continued. "Where ya having an affair,or was it just a one nighter,and Oops,the slut got knocked up?!"
This did not sit well with Kate and, "You b*st*rd!! How dare you - -"
"No, technically, I'm not,That would be her!"John pointed to Amanda. And left before anybody could say anything or do anything.
Everyone just looked at eachother,no one knew what to say. The Jinny just walked out.
"Where are you going?" John Sr. called after her.
"To give that a$$whole a taste of his own medicine!!" She yelled back,and very soon after,they heard the front door slam,and a car start up.
Casey turned to Amanda,and put his hand on her shoulder. "Hey, I am soooo sorry. Don't pay any attention to what he said, He's nothing but an asswhole,who likes to hurt people."
"Yeah,well he's good at it." She mumbled. "Well, I can't truthfully say this was fun,but,uh...I...it was nice meeting you,Casey." With that she ran out of the house, not bothering to get her coat.
"A... Amanda! " Kate ran after her.

"Amanda wait!"
"What?!" Amanda was now crying, hard.
"Hunny, I'm sorry, I- -"
"Look, there's nothing for you to be sorry for, okay." She opened her car door.
"I gotta go."
" Amanda, please wait- -"
"What,mom?!"
"Don't let what he said get to you- -"
"How can I not, mom," She got in her car and drove off, before Kate could reply.
What Amanda said broke her heart. Surely she didn't think John Jr. was right. Did she?
Kate sat down on the curb and started crying.

Knowing her brother like the back of her hand, Jinny knew exactly where to find him : at Tony's Bar and Grill.
She had guessed right, John Jr. was on his way in just as she was parking.
"Hey, John!" She yelled to get his attention,as she ran over to him.
"What do you want?!" He grunted,and started to go into the bar.
Pushing the door back shut,Jinny looked him square in the eye, " I wanna talk to you!"
"Yeah,well I don't want to talk to you!" once again he tried to go in,and once again Jinny slammed the door shut. "Who says you're gonna do any of the talking!"
"Little girl, I wouldn't do that again, If I were you!" He opened the door again.
"What are ya gonna do to me, huh?!" She slamme d itshut again.
John Jr. grabbed Jinny by the shirt and slammed her up against the wall.
This didn't scare Jinny 1 bit, "Let go of me!"
"Why don't you make me!"
With that Jinny spit in his face..
"Why,you little b*tch!" He yelled,and punched her, so hard it took her a minute to react.
Jinny was about to retaliate, when all of a sudden John Jr. came flying off of her.
"You lay another hand on her,and you will regret it!"
"Oh,yeah!" John pulled loose,and turned around, already swinging.
"Stop!" Jinny couldn't believe what she was seeing. Not only did she not believe that he would do something like this,buts she was suprised that he was holding his own too. And against John Jr.
"Stop!" She tried to get them apart. Finally a couple of guys that were coming out of the bar,saw what was happening,and helped her .
"Hey, Hey! kewl it!" The guy that was hold John Jr. yelled.
"Mind your own business!" John yelled back. "Let go of me!
The guy looked to Jinny for instruction.
"Let him go." She nodded. They let go of them.
"Get outta here!" Teddy ordered him.
John grunted and turned to Jinny, " You and me are not finished." He said before he left.
" Thanx,guys." She said as the walked off.
"No problem."
Jinny looked up at Teddy in shock.
"What?"
"Nothing, nothing at all. Are you okay?" Jinny tried to smile, but her cheek was already to sore.
" Me, I'm fine." He flinched,and put his hand to his side. "What about you?"
"I'm fine." Jinny replied. She lifted his shirt to look at his side. "Eew, better get some ice on that."


" Well, uh....I...guess I'm gonna go...." Casey's voice trailed off,as he got his coat, "Bye,Dad."
"Bye."
John Sr. looked out the window to see what was happening with Kate and Amanda, what saw was: Kate sitting on the curb alone,and Casey walking over and kneeling down next to her.

"...Captain...McCafferty?" Casey said as he sat down beside her.
Kate didn't say anything,she just looked up at him.
"Hey, where did... Amanda...go?"
"Home...I guess." Kate wiped away tears. "She thinks your brother is right."
"What? did she say that?"
"Well, not in so many words."
" I am so sorry."
Kate just nodded..
Kate?!" John Sr. called as he walked over to them. "Hey, where's Amanda?"
"Sh...She left." Kate looked back down at the ground. "God, She was so upset." She continued in between sobs. John Sr. put his arm around her and hugged her. He looked to Casey.
"Uh, Hey... i'm gonna.... go now,and let you two...be alone." Casey got up,and walked towards his motorcycle. "I'm really sorry."
" Okay, bye Casey." John Sr. replied.


Back at Teddy's apartment, Jinny and Teddy were holding ice packs on eachother's various bruises and cuts.
"So, what was all that about anyways?" Teddy asked.
"Uh,well......." Jinny sighed. "Might as well tell'em." She thought.
"Well, It's a VERY long story, - -"
"I got time."
"Okay,well here it goes." She began to explain.


"Kate, Come on inside,out of the cold." John Sr. stood up,and reached his hand down for her's.
Kate sighed,and took his hand.
Once inside,
"Ya want anything?" JohnSr. asked.
"No,thanx." Kate sat down on the couch. John sat beside her,and put his arm around her.


" Kate McCafferty, and your dad have a child together!?" Teddy repeated in shock. "Oh my god!"
"Yeah, thats what I said.".Jinny chuckled, then stopped, her cheel was killing her. it was already two or three different shades of purple,and was starting to swell.
"Here." Teddy said, gently placing the ice pack back on her cheek. "Finish your story."
"Okay." Jinny continued to tell him everything.

"And,uh..Thats when you showed up." She concluded.
"Oh"
"Ya kow ,you really suprised me tonight." Jinny said.
"I did?"
"Yeah, I mean, I never expected you to be a fighter,let alone to be able to hold your own with my brother of all people."
"Yeah, You brother's a h*ll of a fighter, I'll give him that much." Teddy flinched when Jinny placed the ice pack on his huge glowing blackeye.
"Sorry."
"Ya know I suprised myself tonight." He laughed. "But when I saw him hit you, I...just...lost it."
Jinny looked at him and smiled as best she could with out causing her cheek to hurt. "Thanx for sticking up for me."
"No problem." There was silence in the room. They just sat there looking into eachother's eyes. Then Jinny kissed Teddy. He pulled away from her, loking into her eyes again, Then he kissed her again. This time much more passionately. As the kiss excelerated,Jinny pulled away, she looked at him for a moment,then stood. Teddy followed her lead. Jinny started to head for Teddy's bedroom,but he stopped her. He picked her up,and carried her in there. ( Okay I'm a good girl,and I think you get the idea,so.........)


Jinny woke up the next morning and looked at Teddy,who was sleeping like a baby,with his arms wrapped around her. She then looked over at the clock. It read 6:30. She hated to wake him up,she hated to leave,but she had to. "Teddy?" She shook him gently. "Teddy,wake up."
"Huh?" He asked,not opening his eyes.
"Let me up. I gotta go." She patted his arm.
"Do ya gotta go now?" He tightened his grip on her.
"Yeah, I do. I gotta go home and change before work." She patted his arm again. "Come on."
" Okay." He reluctantly let go of her.
"Thank you." She said,as she got up,and started gathering her close.
" Ooo,now thats a nice site to wake up to." Teddy commented,propping himself up on one arm.
Jinny looked at him,with an eyebrow raised. "Ya hand me my bra please?"
Teddy took it of the lamp,from wich it was hanging, "Here."
"Thank you." She put it on,and then her shirt. " I'll see ya later."
"Okay."
"Maybe we can have lunch." Jinny suggested as she sat on the bed,next to him.
"Sure, I'll try and keep an hour open for us."
" Okay." Jinny kissed him. "Bye.
Teddy pulled her into another,more passionate kiss," Bye"


As Jinny neared her house, she was shocked at what she saw sitting on the curb.
"No way!" She thought as she pulled into the driveway.

"Hello?!" She called as she walked into the house. Not getting an answer she walked oninto the kitchen.
"Oh...my...god!!" She couldn't believe it.

"I....I'm.....s..sorry." John Jr. mumbled. There was no way in h*ll that he would ever admit that he actualy felt guilty for this in the least or that he had done anything wrong at all. " Aw, h*ll!" He rolled his eyes.,as Kate began to cry hystericaly. He patted her arm,not because he wanted to,but because he felt he had to. John Sr. , who looked rather distraught himself,pulled her to him,and hugged her.
"Oh...my god!" Jinny exclaimed,when she walked into the kitchen. "Whats going on?!" She looked around at everyone.
"Um......A..Amanda was in an accident....last night." John Sr. informed her,A couple of tears escaping.
"What!?...w...what kind of accident??"
"....car accident...." John Jr. said turning back to face away from her.
" Oh god, i...is she okay?? How bad was the accident??"" Jinny walked over by Kate.
"Uh...she..rolled the car.."
"Well is she okay??"
"I don't know, uh....she looked pretty bad."
Hearing this Kate started to cry even harder.
"This is all your fault!" She said out of the blew. She gave him one cold,hard stare, straight in the eye.
"Exscuse me!" John Jr. stood up.
"You heard me! This is all your fault! My daughter - -"
"Yeah, I heard you! And you better watch it!"
"My daughter is laying in a hospital bed,in god's know's what kinda condition,because of you!!"She stood up as well. She wasn't one bit afraid of him. Maybe it was because she was to mad.
" I'm warning you!" He shook his finger in her face.
"And what are ya gonna do!? Hit me?!" Kate slapped his hand away.
"John!" Jinny yelled,as she used all her strength to hold him off Kate.
" You stay outta this!! Your little friend isn't here to protect you now!" He pushed her off.
She came back at him full force,and kneed him in a rather delicate area,causing him to double over in pain, " I can protect myself quite well!!"
"You b*tch!" He lunged for her,bringing her to the ground,him on top of her.
"Stop it! Stop it now!!" John Sr. yelled as loud as he could. But it didn't do any good,they ignored him.
Totally ignoring the protests of her dad,and Kate,Jinny managed to wrestle her way on top of John Jr. Now in the reverse position, She returned the punch that he had given her the night before. "Get out of here John!!" She ordered as she got up.
Starting over towards Kate. Jinny stepped in front of him,blocking his path.
He looked her square in the eye. "I'm leaving....before I don anything that you guys are gonna regret."
He reached around Jinny, got his uniform jacket of the back of the chair and walked out.
"You alright?" Kate asked.
"Fine" Jinny answered out of breathe. She wiped away blood that was dripping from her nose. "What about you? You gonna go to the hospital?"
"Yeah. In a little while."
Jinny nodded and walked out of the kitchen.
"Where ya going!?" John Sr. called,as they followed her.
"I'm gonna call Raina and tell her that we're not gonna be in."
"No, Jin you go on to work , an - -" Kate started.
"I'm coming with you." Jinny began to dial.
"No, just go on to work,and we'll call you,when we hear anything.Okay?"
Jinny looked at her for a minute, thinking about,"...Okay. Call me as soon you hear ANYTHING."
"Will do." John replied.
" Well, I guess I should,uh...go change, huh?" Jinny looked down at her shirt. There were couple spots of blood on it. And it was very possible that some of it was John Jr. 's.
"Might be a good idea."
" And this was one my favorites, d*mn!" Jinny mumbled as she started up the stairs.



Hey, Jin where ya be - -" Magd started to ask,then she saw Jinny's very swollen,very purple cheek,and what looked to be a dried up bloody nose. "Oh my god! What happened!?"
"Huh? Oh it's nothing. Igot in a fight with John Jr. ,thats all."
"Are you okay??"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Jinny sat down at her desk.
"Are you sure?" Nate asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure. He got the worst end of it."

Nate leaned in towards CD and whispered, Who is John Jr.?"
"Oh,He's Jinny's jackass of a big brother."

" Oh,uh Raina?" Jinny turned around in her chair, to face her.
"Yeah?"
"Cap's not coming in today."
"Why?"
"It's a long story. I'll tell ya later." Jinny replied,and turned back around
" Oh, okay." Raina got the message,and went back to work, herself.
" What the h*ll is going on!?!?" Magda thought to herself. If she didn't get some answers soon she was afraid she would go insane.


It was now almost one o'clock,and neither her dad nor Kate had called. "Come on,call already!" She thought as she starred down at the phone.
"Hey there!" Teddy walked up.
"Oh,uh...hey." Jinny forced a smile.
"Oh,buddy! He left quite a shiner." He commented on her cheek." Hey, has your nose been bleeding?"
"Uh, yeah,uh - -"
"It wasn't bleeding last night....was it?"
"Uh, no it wasn't...uh we got in anther fight at Dad's this morning.." Jinny whispered.
" What!? Why?!"
"H...he took a swing at Cap."
"What?!"
"Look, can we talk about this later? This isn't the best time."
"Oh, uh..yeah, sure."
"Thanx."
"So,uh are we goin g to lun- -" just the the phone finally rang.
Jinny held one finger up to him,as she answered it,
"Exstead..........She's what!?...O...okay,well...I'm coming down there...okay...okay I will....bye!"Jinny slammed the phone back onto it's cradle.
"Uh, listen I gotta go, I'm sorry about lunch. I'll explain later." She said rather hurriedly, kissing him on the lips.
"Where ya going?" Magda asked.
"Raina, I probably won't be back today. I'll call ya when I know for certain,okay?Bye!"She ignored Magda and rushed out of the division,with out waiting for an answer from Raina.

"Amanda McCaff- -" Jinny started to ask the receptionist for the room number," Nevermind."
She made her way over to Kate, Who was slumped down in a waiting chair in the hallway.
"Cap??" She said,sitting down beside her
"Sh...she....." She started to cry again.
Jinny was REALLY worried now. Her captain had always struck her as somebody who was always in control,The calm one in a crisis, but now here she was, in complete shambles. Jinny could understand why,but still it was suprising, to her. "Come here" She put her arm around her.
" Sh...she broke a rib,a...and it...it punctured her lung,they got it out,and had her stabilized,and,then she went into arrest!"Kate cried on her shoulder.
"She's gonna be okay." Jinny reassured her. "God, please let me be right!" She thought.

"I know, that Jinny's dad is Amanda's dad too, I don't know any of the details or anything,though."
"Ok, well, Kate and Amanda went to,uh....F..family poker night,. it's a ,family get-together thing they do every week." Teddy began telling her the events of the night before.
"Oh, really??" Raina's interest peeked off the charts. "And, I take it that this go well?"
"Not at all."
"Well do tell,do tell."


Jinny had gotten Kate to calm down ,but she was still crying,and was about to ask where her dad was,when he walked up.
"hey, Jinny" He said, then he noticed that Kate was crying again. "Oh my god, what happened?! Is it Amanda?! Oh,tell me she's not- -"
"No, Dad, she's not. "
"Oh, thank god!" He sat down beside them.
"Yeah." Jinny nodded." So, where ya been?"
"I went to,uh...finda payphone to call Casey."
"Oh."
" Have you heard anything new?" He looked from Jinny to Kate and back again.
"I just got here."
"Not a d*mn thing." Kate sniffed. She sat up straight,and looked to Jinny.
" I..I'm sorry I got your shirt all wet."

a rather handsom young doctor, came up to them.

Just as Jinny shut off her cell phone,and headed back into the hospital,she heard someone call her name.
"Hey." She called to the man that was running towards her.
"Hi." He replied. a little out of breath. "How are you?"
"I'm,uh.......worried." Jinny put her arm around him as they entered the hospital.
" Jinny,that doesn't sound very optimistic. How is she?"
"Uh,well...she's in a coma."
"Oh god!- -"
"Yeah,thats what I said."
"How's Captain McCafferty?"
"Casey,... She's in shambles." Jinny looked around the lobby, when she didn't see her dad or Kate where she'd left them.
"And Dad?"
"Uh...H...He's trying his hardest to be strong,but.uh...It's obvious how worried he is."
Casey just nodded.
"Doctor?!" Jinny spotted the doctor they had spoken to earlier. "Dr. Carter.?!" She called again as she walked over to him.
"You looking for your mother and father they're- -"
"Uh, She's not my mother." Jinny corrected.
"Oh, I'm sorry, i just assumed......." Dr Carter's voice trailed off.
"Don't worry about. "
"Yeah,thats who we are looking for." Casey spoke up.
"They're in Ms. McCafferty's room. I'll show you where it is."
"Thanx." Jinny said as they followed him down the hall.
Dr. Carter knocked litely as he slowly opened the door to Amanda's hospital room.
"Brought visitors." He held the door open for Jinny and Casey.
"Hi." Kate looked up at them. She was sitting in a chair,by Amanda's bed,holding her hand.
"Hi, Casey." John Sr. said,as he put his hand on Kate's shoulder.
"Hi, Dad,...Hi, Captain...." Casey's voice faded.
"Well, I'll be out of your way in just a second, I just wanna check Ms.McCafferty's stats before I leave"
Dr. Carter looked at her heart monitor,and scribbled something in his notepad.
"How is she?" Kate asked,as she started to move out of the way,so he could check her pulse.
"You're fine." He said picking up her hand." She's in stable, and everything looks good."
Everybody let out a sigh of relief. They'd prefer that she be in better condition,but this was still good news.
" Well, I'll get out of your way,now." Dr. Carter smiled reasuringly,and left.


"Hey,Raina, Did Jinny call you?" Magda asked.
"Yeah,she did, she said she's not coming back,and.....she probably won't be here tomarrow either."
Raina shuffled through so papers.
"What? Why?!"
"Uh.....She...she didn't say."
Magda saw right through the lie," Look, Raina I know that you what's going on around here- -"
"No,I don't."
"Yes you do. And I wanna know, so tell me."
"I...I can't Mag. I promised I wouldn't say anything to anyone."
"Raina,please?"
"No,Magda, I wasn't supposed to know either,and i don't wanna get Jinny and Amanda even more mad at me." Raina said, "If Amanda makes it- - Stop it,she's gonna be fine!" She thought.
"Fine." Magda replied, disapointed. "The one time,I actually want her slip!" She thought,and went back to work.
"Magda,please don't be mad at me?!"

"It's getting,late you guys go home and get some rest,before ya go to work tomarrow."Kate suggested.
"You sure?" Casey asked.
"Yeah,I'm sure, you need your rest."

"Will do." John Sr. replied.
"Bye,guys." Casey hugged his dad.

"Bye, Case." Jinny kissed him on the cheek.

"But, I'm coming by on my break tomarrow."

As they were walking out, they ran into Raina,

"Oh,uh... this is my brother Casey. Casey this is Raina Washinton." She took the hint.

"Well, we're gonna go,Bye."

"Hey,Jin" Raina greeted her,when she walked into the division. "I thought you were gonna take today off."
"I was,but....I changed my mind."

"Hey Mag." Jinny sat down at her desk. "How's it going?"

"Okay."She mumbled. "Considering the condition my newly found sister is in." She thought.

"Well........" Magda began to inforem her of her findings.

"Hey,there's nothing wrong with Amanda is there?" Jinny was startled when she heard Kate's voice.
"No ,she fine.
"Thank god" She let out a sigh of relief.

"Sure,no problem."

"Hey,I'm gonna take my break around 2 o'clock,and I'm gonna come by."

"I know." Raina was caught off guard by Jinny little outburst,as well as everyone else. "I was just

"Oh, god....." Kate thought out loud,breaking the silence that had fallen over the room,a few minutes earlier.
"What?" John Sr. asked.
"George! I'm gonna have to call George!"
"Oh,yeah....." John's voice faded out.
"Who is George?"Casey asked.
'He's Kate's ex-husband..........." John Sr. explained.
"D....does he know yet? A..about ...Amanda....."
Kate took in a long collective sigh, "No, he doesn't.I guess I've been procrastinating,and....." Her voice trailed off,as she looked at Amanda, just lying there,still,she looked almost lifeless.
"Well, you can't wait any more." John Sr. said.
"No...I can't..."
"Might as well get it over and done with..."He picked up the phone reciever and handed it to her.
Kate hesitated,but she took it.," I....I don't know how to .....tell him. Or where to start or anything. What do I say?" Kate was terrified, of dong this. She new he was gonna be pissed,and hurt and....this was so overwhelminng,but she knew she had to do it.
Jinny walked in just as Kate began to dial the number. "Hey guys."
"Shh." JohnSr. put his finger up to his lips.
"Hi,Jin." Casey whispered.
'Whats going on?" Jinny sat on the arm of Casey's chair.
"Uh, Captain is calling her...ex- husband...." He informed her.
"Ooooooh."
Kate held the phone to her ear,then hang it back on it's cradle.And let out a sigh. "Uh,no answer."


Jill was getting ready to walk out the door,to go see Amanda when the phone rang. She rushed back over to it
"Hey this is- -" She heard a man's voice come over the answering machine.
"Hello?" she answered .
"Hi,is this Jill?"
"Yes it is."
"Hi,this is Amanda's father, I- -"
"Oh, Hi. Mr. Exstead,Is Amanda okay??"
"What do you mean is Amanda okay?" He asked in confusion.
"Oh sh*t! this isn't Mr. Exstead is it?!" She wanted to kick herself. How could she be so stupid!?
"No,it's not! Now why did you ask if Amanda is okay?"
"Uh......" Jill didn't know what to say. She wanted to just hang up on him,and leave,but she didn't figure that was a good idea.
"And why did you confuse me with this Mr. Exstead? I told you who I am."
"....Y...yeah, you did,uh........."
"Okay,Iam very confused here - -"
"Uh, you should.....just - - You need to talk to Kate, I gotta go." Jill hang up the phone,and left as fast as she could. "My god how could I be so stupid!?" She thought.

"Well, I guess, I should get back work." Jinny looked down at her watch.
"Yeah, me too..." Casey stood up. He hugged his father. "Bye."
"Bye Casey, bye,Jin." John Sr. replied,as Jinny kissed him on the cheek.
Jinny patted kate on the shoulder as she and Casey walked out, "Bye."

"So,....." Casey said as they walked down the hall.

just as they passed the front desk in the lobby,they heard,

"What room is Amanda McCafferty,please?" Jill asked the receptionist.
"Are you family?"
"I'm her girlfriend."
"I'm sorry you have to be family...."
"Are you Jill?" Jinny asked walking over to the desk.
"Yes I am. You are?"
"I'm Jinny...Exstead." she held out her hand.
"Oh,Hi, it's nice to meet you." Jill replied.shaking her hand.
"Yeah you too. Uh, This is my,uh...our brother Casey." Jinny put her hand on Casey's shoulder.
"Hi." She smiled,shaking his hand as well.
"Hi." Casey smiled shyly. "I,uh..wish we could have met under more pleasant......" His voice faded out.
"Yeah, me too."
"I'm Ms. McCafferty's...sister. It's okay for Jill to come back." Jinny relized that that was the first time she'd said that. And it felt kind of weird. She wondered if it sounded weird, too.
"Thanx." Jill said .
"No problem. She's in room 116. I'm sorry, i'd show ya where it is,but I really have to get back to work."
"Oh,that's fine, I'll find."
It was nice meeting you." Casey said as they started walk off.
"Oh,uh Jinny!" Jill called as she caught up with them "Listen, I know you need to go,but can I talk to you for a second?"
"Sure,whatcha need."
"Uh...." Jill took Jinny's arm and lead her to a more private spot. "Well, Right before I left Mandy's uh..."h wasn't quite sure what to say.
"Dad?" Jinny asked.
"Uh,yeah. He...he called,and I kinda asumed he was, your dad,and..."
"Oh god, you didn't- -"
"well not exactly, but I....have a feeling he's gonna call Kate,and demand to know who Mr. Exstead is - "
"Oh. god!"
"Yeah,that what I said, He asked me why I called him Mr.Exstead,and...."
"Wait, well maybe he'll just brush it off - -"
I highly doubt it, this was after he said that he was Mandy's father,and I kinda told him to talk to kate about it. I didn't know what to do,I paniced!"
"Uh,well I think ya did the right thing,just,Uh tell Cap, when you get to the room."
"Cap?"
"Yeah,....thats uh, her nickname around the division."
"Oh...cute,it suites her.....Anyways, back on track here,do you think she'll be mad?"
"No, I don't think so, I think she'll understand."
"Good, I hope your right. Thanx for talking to me."
"No prob. The room,is alll the way at the end, on the right."
"K,thanx." Jill headed to the room.

"What was that about?" Casey asked Jinny,as she walked back over to him.
"Well, it's eems thatJill kinda accidentaly let the cat out of the bag." Casey looked at her in confusion.
"Uh, Amanda's....dad,called and Jill assumed it was...Dad."
"Oh..."Casey nodded. "Uh-oh."

"Knock,knock,knock" Jill said. It sound more like a question,as she slowly entered the hospital room.
"Hi, Jill." Kate tried to smile.
"Hi,how are you?"
"As good as can be expected. oh, uh, Jill this is John Exstead...Amanda's..father."
"Hi, it's nice to finaly meet you,I've heard a lot about you."Jill held out her hand.
"Oh,same to you." He replied shaktg her hand.
Jill nodded,and turned to Kate, "I uh...gotta tell ya something, well, actually i guess it's a heads up...."
"What?"
"Uh, well, Your ex-husband called for Amanda,and I kinda mistook him for,uh...." She turned to John. "You.
"Oh,god. What did he say?"
"Uh,well he was confused. and He wanted to know who Mr. Exstead was,and I...told him to talk to you....I'm sorry, I paniced,I didn't know what to do..."
Kate ran her hand through her hair,wich was now a curly mess.,She had been at the hospital all night.
"It's....it's okay. You did the right thing......I guess."
"I'm glad you understand,Jinny said you probably would." Right after Jill said that,Kate's cell phone began to ring. Kate looked at the ID caller,it said : G . Parillo.

"McCafferty." She sighed. "Uh,Hi George. Hold on a minute." She got up and left the room
"I know why you're calling, Jill told me what happened." she said once outside.
"Well can ya tell me, I'm rather confused." He snapped.
"Um,well, I'll start at the beginning, I guess."
"Okay,start."
Kate was near tears, she was so nervous right now,"Do you remember, Inspector Exstead? He was my partner on the force,for a little while."
"Yeah, I remeber him, I think. Is that who Jill was talking about?"
"Yeah."
"But why,did she? and after I had told her who I am?"
"Uh,well....um....."
"Katie?"
"Look, this is hard for me, so just...let me take my time okay!"
"Okay.." He replied. He was actually getting kind of nervous himself. Nervous with anticipation.
"Uh.....well....." Kate thought for a minute, "Oh,screw it! One thing at a time."
"Katie?"
"George, Amanda,was in a car accident,an- -"
"What!?" He forgot all about, what had happened with Jill ,earlier. "Is she okay?!"
"She's stable,she's.....in a coma."
"What!? Oh my god! when,did - -"
"Night before,last,I - -"
"Why,didn't you call me?!"
"I was going to,....I forgot..."
"You forgot!?"
"I'm sorry,okay, I've just been kind of out of it okay?!"
"Okay, I'm sorry, I understand. I'll be down there as soon as I possibly can!"
"Okay."
"Bye." He said. Soon after Kate heard a dial tone. She shut off her cell,and headed back inside.


"Hey,Jin." Raina greeted her as she walked into the divison.
"Hey." Jinny sat down at he desk.
Raina walked over to Jinn,and bent down, "So,anything new on Amanda?" She whispered in her ear.
"Still,stable,no improvements." she whispered back.
"Oh,well, I guess,no news can be good news." Raina sais,as she straightened up,and headed back to her desk.
"Yeah,guess so."
"Hey,Jinny, can I talk to you? in private?" Magda asked.
"uh...." Jinny had a pretty good feeling as tot what this was about." Y..yeah, I guess so." She sighed and got up.

"So,what do ya wanna talk to me about?" She asked,checking the bathroom stalls,to make sure no one else was in there.
"I think you know." Magda replied.
"yeah, I have a pretty good idea."
"So.....what's going on?" She sat down on the bench in front of the lockers.
"Uh....well...." Jinny sat down next to her."To put it point blank,.......Amanda is my sister."
"What!?"
"Amanda is my sister."
"Amanda...McCafferty?" Magda confirmed.
"Yeah."
"Oh...my...god!"
"Heh..yeah,thats what I thought."Jinny ran her hand through her hair.
"You mean....Our captain...and your dad...." She gestured with her hands.

"yeah, I do. And ,no."
"No?"
"It was just,a uh....one night stand...,that uh....resulted in Amanda mcCafferty."

"No, I didn't now,till recently. Neither did my dad."

"So...." John asked.
"So........I didn't tell him." She sighed. "I told about the accident,but I didn't tell him......."
"Why?"
"Well...I...I thought it was best ,one thing at a time. Y'know thats large load to take: Amanda,was in an accident,and she's in a coma. Oh,yeah...and she's not really your daughter,I've been lieing to you for 20 years."
"Yeah,you've got a point there......." He nodded. "but, can I ask you a question?"
"What?"
"I know this is a BIG thing,and you're scared about - -"
"more like terrified."
"Me too." He thought. "I know that you mean what you just said,but....How much of it are you using as an excuse to stall a little longer?"
Kate just starred down at himfor a moment, "I'm gonna go get some coffee.....Anybody want any thing?"
"No thank you." Jill replied.
John shook his head.
"Okay,then." She said as she walked out.


There had been silence in the room for a minute or so. Since Jinny had finished telling Magda everything that was going on.
"Y'know something..."Magda broke the silence. "If it weren't for,uh.......the accident, This whole thing would actualy be pretty funny."
"What do you mean?"
"Come on,Jin. Your dad plus our Captain equals a sister you never knew about., how much more soap opera can get?" she chuckled.
Jinny didn't say anything for a moment,then,:You're right." She let out a soft laugh. Silence fell over the room again.


A few minutes later Kate returned to the room,coffee in hand,and once again, stood next to John.
"Here" He said,standing up,"You sit for a while."
"Thanx" She said, doing as he suggested
"No problem."
"You're right." she took a sip of her coffee." I do mean what I said. That is a large load to take...........But, I guess I was kind of using it as an excuse. I know I should stop putting it off, but you don't know how scary this really is..."


"Hey,Jin, are yougoing to stop by the hospital?" Magda whispered to Jinny,ans they both put on their coats on.
"Yeah,why?"
"Well, I thought I'd tag along....if thats okay."
"Yeah,sure." Jinny pushed her chair into her desk. "Night,Guys."
"Night." CD and Nate replied in unison.
"Night Guys." Raina added.
Magda waved as she and Jinny walked out of the division.


Walking into the hospital room,Jinny was suprised to see that a a couple of people were missing.
"Where is everybody?" She asked.
"They talked each other into going home and changing clothes." Jill explained.
"Oh."Jinny sat down in 1 of the chairs. "Oh,uh..Jill, This is my friend Magda. Magda, this is Amanda's girlfriend,Jill."
",Hi, how are ya?" Magda reached her hand out, to shake Jill's.
"I could be better. "Jill looked down at Amanda."You?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, i guess that wasn't the best question to sak."
"It's okay,don't worry about it."
"Oh, Hey Jin." Kate said as she and John walked in hand in hand. Magda noticed this. They then, noticed that Magda was there. "Uh, Hey Mag."
"Hi,Cap...John. It's alright that I'm here isn't it
"Yeah, of course." John replied.
"We were suprised thats all." Kate added.
"It is alright that I told her?"
"Yeah, it's fine. Lets not tell anybody else,till I tell George...okay."
"Okay" Jinny nodded.

The next morning, at the division, Charles Haysbert walked in,and went straight to Kate's office,only to find that the lights were off,the door locked,and there was no sign of Kate.
"Oh,uh...the Captains not here today." Raina informed him.
"And might i ask where she is?" He replied, with something of an attitude in his voice.
"She at the hospital with her daughter." She returned the same tone in her voice.
"Oh?"
"Yeah, Her daughter was in a bad car accident,night before last."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that."It was obvious,though,that wasn't all that torn up about it.

That night as Jinny and Casey were entering the hospital,Jill was leaving.
"Hey." She made her way over to them.

"Yeah, I thought I'd go home and change...I've had this on for two days now." She yawned as she tugged at her sweater. "I guess I could use some sleep too."
"Yeah.." Jinny agreed.
"Thats a lot of flowers." She commented on the four bouquets, Jinny and Casey were each carrying two.
"Yeah, their from some of the inspectores at work." Jinny explained.
"Oh? Well that was nice of them. Well I'm gonna get out of here, I hate the smell of hospitals. I'll,uh see ya later."
"Okay, Bye."
"See ya later later" Casey added.

"Hey, guys." John Sr. got up to open the door,when he saw that Casey was pushing it open with his back.
"Thanx."
"Wow, whats with all the flowers?" Kate asked.
"Well, thes are from Nate,and these are from CD..."Jinny sat them down on the table by Amanda's bed.
"And..these are from Officer Washington. "Casey continued,handing one bouquet to Jinny.
"And these are from everybody. We thought ya use a little cheering up,so........" He handed the other to Kate.
"Aww,..thank you." She smelled of them.
"Uh...Raina said, that your favorite is yellow roses, was she right?" Jinny said
"Yes,she was. Thank you."
" You're welcome" Casey replied.


That night, almost as soon as Jinny walked in the door,the phone rang.
"Exstead?"
"Hey,Jinny"
"Oh,Hi,Teddy how are ya?"
"I'm good...Did I call at a bad time,you sound tired?"
"I am tired,but no it's not a bad time."
"Are ya sure?"
"Yeah, I'm sure,....I'm glad you called."Jinny went upstairs to change into something more comfortable.
"Good...I uh I called earlier,you weren't home."
"No, I stopped by the hospital,on my way home."
"Oh. How is,uh......"
"Amanda? She's stable,no changes."
"Oh....." Niether of them said anything for a minute or so.
"So,uh....." Jinny spoke up. "Are you busy, right now?"
"Nope,...why?"
"I was just thinking, that if ya want to, you could come over for a while." Jinny sat on the couch.She was now wearing a t-shirt,and boxer shorts.
"Yeah,sure. Of course I want to."
"Okay,great."
"I'll see ya in a few."
"Okay,bye." Jinny hang up the phone. A grin crept up on her face, She was glad that thing s were going the way they were. As far as her and Teddy,anyways.


"Ooo,here we go...." Nate said, snatching a video off the shelf."Lets rent The Others."
"Okay, and......." CD went to the action section of the video store "We Were Soldiers." she handed him the video.

"Quite the selection,don't ya think : The Others, We Were Soldiers, and Sleepy Hollow." CD asked,as they got in line.
"Sure is." Nate replied. "And if you get scared,you just feel free to hide your little blonde head right here.." He put his arm around her head,and pulled it to him.
"Nate, let go of my head!" She laughed as she tried to pry his arm loose.
"Nope."
"Nate...."
"CD....."
"Let go!" She clawed his hand.
"Ouch!" He yelled as he let go.
"Well, I told ya to let go, didn't I?" She laughed.
"Will this be all?" The guy at the register asked.
"Yeah." Nate got out his wallet.
"Nine bucks,even." the guy informed him. Nate handed him the money."Have a nice night."
"Yeah,you too." Nate grabbed the movies.
"I still cannot believe, that you haven't seen Sleepy Hollow." CD said as they walked out.


It was now a little after midnight,and Kate had just dozed off, a few minutes earlier.
Then her cell phone began to ring, waking out of the much needed sleep.
She rushed to answer it before it woke John.
"McCafferty?"
"Katie, it's George, I - -"
"Hi, hold on." Kate got up and went outside."kay."
"I'm in San Fransico. I'm gonna get a hotel room,and I'll come over first thing in the morning."
"Okay, Thats fine,We're at Saint Steven's, room 116."
"Okay,well, I'll see you in the morning."
"Okay." Kate shut off her phone,and went back inside.

"Was that, George?" John asked when she cam back into the room.
"I thought,you were asleep!" She jumped.
"Sorry."
"It's okay."
"Was that George?" He asked again.
"Yeah,he said he'll be over in first thing in the morning." She sat down.
"I just thought of something...."
"What?"
"How are we gonna explain you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I mean, I do wanna wait to tell him, about you,and everything. But what are we gonna tell'em in the meantime?He's gonna wonder why you're here,and... Oh,why didn't I think of any of this before? We're gonna have to tell him something."

Jinny woke up the next morning,still on the couch.
"Teddy?" She called out,when she realized he was missing. "Teddy?"
She sat up and looked around,then a note laying on the coffe table caught her eye. It was adressed to her.

She had a smile on her face as she folded the note. She got up and went upstairs to get ready for work.

She got out her cellphone as she pulled up to a stoplight. She dialed Teddy's cellphone number.
"Hmmm, must be in a meeting or something." She thought as she shut off her cell,and started to put it away then changed her mind. She dialed another number and waited while it rang.
"Hello?" John Sr.'s voice came over the phone.
"Hey,it's Jinny. I'm on my way to work, just thought I'd call....and check in."
"Oh,Hey Jinny girl."


"Morning, Jin." Magda greeted ,when she saw her walk through the doors of the division.
"Hi, Mag."
"Ooo,Jinny!" Raina jumped up from her seat.
"Ooo,Raina!" Jinny replied,as she did the opposite.
"These flowers came for you." She sat them on Jinny's desk. "So, Are they from who I think they are from?"
"Who do you think they are from?" Jinny asked,though she thought she already knew.,she took the card from the flowers.
"Oh,maybe.....Theodore."She nudged Jinny with her elbow. "So,am I right? Huh,huh?"
Jinny read the card,and she found herself trying not to smile.
"I am right!"
"Well....."She gave up on trying to hide it,and smiled.
"So, you and good ole Theodore are getting back together,huh?" CD smirked.

"Ha, I knew it!" Magda clapped her hands.

"God,this gonna be awkward." John Sr. thought outloud.

Just then there was a knock at the door,as it opened slowly.

"Uh...I'm was doing better,then,uh...I found out..."His voice trailed off when he saw Amanda. He went over to her,and picked up her hand. "How is she doing?" He turned and looked at Kate.
"She's stable,but nothing's changed."
"Oh." George looked over at John curiosly,and back to Kate.
"Oh,uh..George, this is John Exstead, he's,uh...a friend of mine."
"Hi." John held out his hand.
"Hi...." george shookhis hand."Hey, haven't we met before?..You used to work with Katie didn't you?"
"Uh..Yes,yes I did a long time ago." He replied "Dear,god this is weirder then I thought it would be!" He thought.
"He remembers him! Oh god,is this a good thing,or bad thing?!" Kate thought as she bit her lip.


"Hi,Jinny." Teddy said as he sat on the corner of her desk."I see ya got the flowers."
"Yeah, I did." She smiled."Teddy you didn't have to do- -"
"I wanted to. Now for once can you just accept the gift,and say thank you?"
"Thank you." She rolled her eyes.
"Don't roll your eyes at me." He chuckled. He then leaned over and kissed her.
Raina and Magda looked to eachother,and let out a giggle.
"What?" Teddy turned to face them.
"Oh,nothing." They said in unison.
"They are just relishing in the fact that they were....right...about you,and me....." Jinny explained.
"Oh really? Well Ladies, See what ya think of this." Teddy planted one pasionate kiss on Jinny.
"Teddy" Jinny blushed when the kiss ended,she was a little embarrassed.
"Wahoo!" Raina exclaimed.
Magda added a whistle to that.
"Wanna go to lunch?" Teddy asked.
"Yeah,sure."Jinny stood up,and got her coat.

"I,uh..I'm gonna go get something to eat. I haven't eaten in about twelve hours." George was the first person in the room to say anything in what seemed like forever.
"Could one of you show me where the cafateria is?...John?"
"Why me?!" He thought."Uh,yeah,sure. I'm a little hungry myself."
"Katie, do you want us to bring you back something?"
"Uh...no thanx, I'm not hungry."
"You sure?"
"Yeah."
"Okay,then." George,and John left the room.


"I cannot believe that you did that!" Jinny said,as she took a bite of her salad.
"Did what?"
"Kissed me like that..in front of everybody in the division"
"Oh,yeah...well..." Teddy chuckled,and took a sip of his diet coke.
"Well......."


"So,uh....." George grabbed a tray,off the shelf."How long have you and Katie...been seeing eachother?"
"Uh......" John was caught completely off gaurd.

Shortly after Jinny's phone stopped ringing,Raina's began,
"Officer Washington." She greeted. "Oh,Hey......She went to lunch with Theodore......What!? Thats great!.......Yeah, sure, I'll run over and tell her,right now.....No problem,bye." She hang up.
"Hey, Whats great? Where ya going?!" Magda's question went un-answered as Raina rushed out of the division,as fast as her feet would take her.


Jinny and Teddy had just finished their meals, and sat in silence,just ,looking at eachother.
"I got your note this morning." Jinny spoke up.
Teddy smiled in responce.
"It was really corny." She chuckled.
"Yeah,well......"
"Yeah,well....it was really sweet too." She leaned across the table and kissed him. The kissed lingered a bit,before they were interupted.

"Hey,guys...." Raina gasped for her breath.
"Hey,why are you so out of breath?" Jinny asked.
"I....ran...all the....way over...here..." She sat beside Teddy.
"Well,here..." Teddy handed her his drink. "Whats the rush?"
Raina chugged the drink,"Thank. Cap...Cap called......."
"And......." Jinny started to worry. It must be something very important,for Raina to rush over so fast.
"And......."Raina finished off Teddy's drink. "Amanda moved her hand!"


Just as Jill was walking up to the entrance,she heard someone call her name. She turned around to see Jinny and some a man running over to her.
"Hey!"
"Hey!" The three of them went entered the hospital together. Teddy's arm was around Jinny shoulders,and
her arm around his waist.

"Hi..." Jill tapped lightly on the door as she entered the hospital room. Casey had already gotten there.They had pulled chairs over as close to Amanda's bed as they could get them. Watching her. George was on the sideclosest to the window. And Kate John,and Casey on the other side. There were four chairs in the room,one for each of them. But for some strange reason,wich Kate could not figure out,and didn't really care at the moment either, John had her sit in his lap.
Jinny found this odd,as well,but brushed it off,it wasn't important right now.
" Has she moved anymore?" She asked as she walked over. Teddy tried to stay back a ways,he felt a little uncomfortable. But Jinny grabbed his hand and pulled him with her.
"No..." Casey replied.
Kate noticed the questioning looks George,Jill,Jinny,and Teddy were exchanging,
"Oh,uh.... George this is Amanda's girlfriend Jill,uh...John's daughter, Jinny,and her boyfriend Tedddy. Guys.....this is,uh..Amanda's dad."
Jinny and Teddy,each mumbled a "Hi"
"Hi,...it's nice to meet you...."Jill's voice trailed off.
"Yeah you too."

Meeting Jill in person,reminded him of their conversation on the phone two nights before.
Thats when it clicked. John must be the Mr. Exstead that she had confused him with. Why had she confused them? And AFTER he had told her who he was? He decided now wasn't the time to bring it up.


About an hour later,the seating arangements had changed a little. George had let Jill take his seat,Casey had left and Jinny had taken it . Teddy had pulled over the remaining chair,and sat down. And Kate was now standing. Not much had been said. No one really had anything to say. Or at least anything that they thought was apropriate at the time.
Teddy looked down at his watch,and then finally broke the silence, " Jin,I'm sorry but I really need to get back to work..."
"It's okay." Jinny stood up, as Teddy did the same.
"Yeah, Jin why don't you go ahead too,we'll call you if anything happens." Kate suggested.
"No,uh-uh,not going anywhere." Jinny shook her head.
"That answer your question?" Teddy chuckled.
"Yes it does."
"Okay,well I'm gonna get out of here..." He gave her a quick kiss,and started to leave.
"Oh,wait. How are you gonna get home?" He turned to face them.
"I'll figure something out, IF I go home."
"She and Amanda must be awfully close."George thought.
"She can take my car." Kate offered.
"You sure,Cap?"
"Yeah,I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."
"Okay,well I'll see ya tomorrow." Teddy said,as he kissed her on her forehead this time.
"Yeah,I'll call you ,If i don't go in tomorrow."
"Okay." With that Teddy walked out.
"You're going in tomorrow Jinny."
"I might not."
"I won't let you off."
"Captain!"
Kate shook her head.
"My s- - " Jinny realized what she was about to say and,"friend is.......i'd like to be here if she does wake up." Her voice trailed off.
George wondered what Jinny was originally gonna say. And why she corrected herself. And why Kate's looked startled when Jinny had started to say what ever it was. He was also curious about," Captain?"
"Huh?"
"You called Katie Captain."
"Oh,uh...Jinny is one my inspectors." Kate explained.
"Oh I see"
"Yeah, this is small world." Jinny added.


"Look, Jin,I know ya wanna be here,incase she wakes up. And I am so glad,but I just think it would be a good idea if you went home........" Kate and Jinny were now walking down the hall,back to the room.
"Because of uh......" Jinny sipped her coffee,that she had just gotten from the cafateria.
"Yeah. I just think that he might find it a little odd."
"Yeah,I guess you're right. I didn't think about that. Do you want me to see if I can get Dad to leave?"
"Uh,yeah I think that might be a good idea."Kate pulled the door to the room open,and let Jinny go in before her.

Jinny waited a while before she decided to make her exit. "Uh,well I think i'm gonna go,now I gotta get up early in the morning." She looked down at her watch.
"What time is it?' Jill asked.
"Quarter till ten."She replied as she stood up. "Uh, Dad,you coming?"
"No,I don't think so."
"John, go on. Go home and get some rest...." Kate hoped that George hadn't noticed the look she'd given John.
He sighed and stood up,"Okay, I guess you're right."
"Here ya go." Kate handed her keys to Jinny.
"Thanx."
"Bye,....Hunny" John suprised Kate with a kiss.
"Bye...." She looked over at Jinny,who was wearing a highly shocked and very confused expression.
She returned the look.

George had hoped that Jill would leave too,but she didn't. He couldn't really blame her.After all That was her girlfriend lying in that hospital bed....in a coma. Of Course she would want to be there if she woke up.
"I'll just try and get her alone tomorrow." He decided. What Jill had said on the phone was bugging him now more then ever. The fact that Jill confused him with John AFTER he had told her who he was. Thats what bugged him the most. That she confused them AFTER her told her. He also thought they all were acting rather stange.




Hmmm......
Maybe I'll just leave ya hanging for while *evil lafter*

Jinny walked into the house,and hung her coat on the coat tree.,took off her shoes,and headed for the kitchen. John hang his coat up as well,and sat on the couch,and grabbed the TV remote. He flipped through a couple of channels,and then shut the it off. He wasn't really in the mood to watch TV.
Jinny soon appeared from the kitchen a bowl of left-over spaghetti in hand,and sat beside him.
"So,uh............" John couldn't think of anything to say. Silence settled over the room.
"So,uh....." Jinny began. "Whats up with you and Cap?"
"Huh?"
"Well, for 1 thing,she was sitting in your lap. and then,when we were- -"
"Oooooh,that!"He nodded his head.
"Oooooh,that!"Jinny mocked him. "Yeah. So....."


Their game of Scrabble,that they had finished a while ago,still layed on the coffee table. The TV was still on.
And They were on the couch together. Nate was still awake. He had been watching CD sleep for the past 15 minutes or so, with her head in his lap. He picked up the remote,and shut the TV off,then he carefully lifted Her head,and got up. He put a pillow where his lap had been, And headed down the hall towards her bedroom. A minute or so later he came back. Gently picking her up,so as not to wake her,he carried her back to the bedroom. He layed her down,and pulled the covers over her.
"Shh, go back to sleep." He whispered,when she started to stir.
"Okay,...G 'night."She replied. She snuggled into her pillow,and went back to sleep.
"See ya tomorrow"He watched her for a moment more,then kissed her forehead,and headed into the living room. He picked up their game of Scrabble,and put it away before leaving.


John had just finished telling Jinny, about how He had told George that He,and Kate had been dating for the past two months. and once again silence started to fall over then room. Then Jinny began to snicker. Then it grew to a chuckle,and then to full blown laughter.
"And,may i ask what is so funny?"
"That poor woman!!"
"Whats that supposed to mean?"
"She's been in a serious relationship for the past two months and she still doesn't know about it!"
"Well, He caught me off gaurd!... I didn't know what to say!"He defended himself.
Jinny began to laugh harder.
"Shut up!" He threw a couch pillow at her.


It was now close to one o'clock, Kate was sure. Both Jill,and George had fallen asleep already. But She couldn't get her eyes to stay closed long enough to. She had too many things going through her mind.
Did Amanda move her hand,or was it just a muscle spasm?
"Dear,God, Please let her be okay,please let her wake up.....soon!" She prayed, silently. Wich was something she hadn't done in a long time. And she was trying to figure out how she was going to tell George,that the daughter that he loved and helped raise,well his idea of raising : A check each month,and showing up for every other school play,holiday and birthday, was not really his daughter. She'd cheated on him, (As if he'd never cheated on her. Yeah, right!)gotten pregnant,and had been lieing to him for over twenty years.
She didn't really want to think about it,and she let her thoughts trail else where, "And what the h*ll was up with John today!?"

The next morning, John rode with Jinny to the division,and dropped her off. On the way there,He'd called Kate,to just check in,and She'd asked him to wait till around lunch time to come to the hospital. He'd reluctantly agreed .

"Hey, Jin." Magda greeted her.
"Hey." She replied,as she sat down at her desk.
"Hey,Heard that Captain's daughter moved her hand." Nate sipped his coffee.
"Yeah."
"So,how's she doing? Has she moved anymore?" CD asked.
"No. nothing's changed. She's still in the same condition."
"But,she moved,thats an improvement isn't it?" Magda asked.
"It might have just been a muscle spasm."She sighed.
"Oh."


"Uh, I'm gonna go get something to eat..either of you wanna come?" Jill said,as she stood up from her chair.
"Please don't say yes!" She thought. She REALLY didn't want George to go.
"No." He replied.
"Kate?"
Kate shook her head in response.
"You want me to bring you anthing back?"
"No,thanx."
Kate shook her head again.
"You sure?" She asked.
"Yeah,I'm sure. I'm not hungry."
"Okay, be back in a lil bit." Jill said,and walked out.

"Finally!" George thought. "Uh,Katie..."
"Yeah?"
"Listen,the night you told me that you told me Amanda had been in an accident........"
"Oh gawd! Here we go!" Kate thought.
"When I called you,you told me that you knew why i had. That Jill told you what happened..."
"Yes, I do."
"Well, ya wanna - -"
"Yes, I'm gonna explain everything. but,uh...This isn't the place to do it...." She sighed. "W...why don't we go to my house and talk?"



She was going over some papers when Teddy snuck up behind her,and put his arms around her.,
"Hey,there, Beautiful."
"Hi, Handsom." She smiled,as he kissed her neck. "How are you?"
"I'm good. How about you?"
"Awwww!" Raina and Magda cooed.
Jinny rolled yes,and shook her head,"I'm pretty good"
"Well, I better get to work."
"Okay..."She gave him another quick kiss, "Call me later."
"Okay, same to you." He said,and turned to CD and Nate. "The witness here yet?"
"He's in the interogation room." Nate informed.
"After you, Handsom." CD smirked,and let him pass by her.
"Shut, CD."


"Well,we're here." George sat down on the couch.
Kate sighed,and sat in the chair.
"Well?"
"George,please...don't rush me." She took the deepest breathe she possibly could, "Look,before I start, I just wanna tell you,that I am SO sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I...I ..I just, I didn't want to loose you,and, I didn't know what else to do, I just......" She was already fighting back tears.
"What, Katie?" He really wanted to know,especially now. But then again,he was afraid to know.
"George,.....The reason Jill...mistook you for John is because...you told her that you're Amanda's father."
"What?" He didn't quite know what to make of that statement.
Kate sighed once again,She gave up,and just let the tears fall," George.....You are not Amanda's father......John is."

"Hey..." Jill greeted when John walked into the room.

"....Oh....." He sat down in a vacant seat. "How,long have they been gone?"
"About 30 minutes or so,I guess."


"Jin,can I ask you a question?" CD took a huge bite out of her pepperoni pizza.
"Ya just did." She smirked.
"Jinny..."CD rolled her eyes.
"Yeah..shoot"
"Well, I was just.....I was wondering why....involved....with Cap,and Amanda?...I mean, i'm not saying anything's wrong with it,there's not,just..."
"I know what you're saying." Jinny's eyes were as big as quarters now. What the h*ll was she gonna tell her?!
"You...and Captain,have been...acting kinda...odd lately."
"I...I know what you're saying,and...uh....um...." She looked to Magda and Raina,then back to CD,
"Well,um......"


"I don't believe this." George finally spoke. It had taken a moment or two for what Kate had said to sink in. He was in shock. "I don't believe this!"
"George,I - -"
"I don't believe this!!!"
"George- -"
"You cheated on me and- -"
"And you never cheated on me"She mumbled,not realizing she'd even said it out loud."Yeah Right!"
"Oh , So,what, this was just a little pay back!?"
"NO!"
"Katie,how could you?"She could hear the hurt in his voice.
"George, I never meant to hurt you, I - -"
"Well guess what! Ya did!!"He shouted,as he stood up. "So what,were,and...and..him,having an affair,and 'OOPS!' ?"
"NO!"
"Then what!?"
"It...it only happened once...."
"And I'm suposed to believe that because...."
"Because it's the truth!!" Sh stood up as well. "You try being 24,only been on the force for a couple of months,and you've just gotten your first really big call, and you get to the address, only to find out that the victim was one of your best friends! Your try seeing your friend lying in her bathroom floor with half of her head missing! By her own hand!" By now,she was crying almost hystericaly. "Yeah, you could use a little comfort! And where is your husband,during one of the hardest times of your life?! Probably screwing the receptionist at the hotel he's staying in,while on his supposed business trip!"
George was more angry then anything at the moment. And the fact that Kate was right about the receptionist added to that. He raised his hand.


Jinny thought about lieing to her,but she couldn't think of a good lie,even if she had been able to,it probably wasn't the right thing to do. So she told her the truth. She told her that, she would tell her,but she couldn't at the moment. That right now it was best that as few people know as possible. Of course this sent CD's curiousity into over drive. But she decided she wasn't gonna pry anymore,and she'd just wait. If curiousity didn't kill her first. After Jinny explained,that she couldn't explain what was going on,everyone continued to eat lunch,and chit-chat about various things.
"Well,I'm gonna go....." Jinny didn't wanna bring up the whole 'Amanda' thing up again," run an errand."
she wiped her mouth,and threw the napkin in the trash. She put her coat on and started to walk out.
Magda grabbed her arm as she passed by her desk,"You,going to see Amanda?" she whispered.
"Yeah."
"Mind if I tag along?"
"Uh.......no,come on."

"I dare you!" She said,looking him straight in the eye.
George grabbed a glass sitting on the coffee table and chucked across the room instead. He grabbed his coat off the arm of the couch and stormed out. Kate stood there for a moment,then let herself fall back into the chair. She continued to cry.


"Hi." Jinny said as she and Magda walked into Amanda's room.
"Hey,Jin"John replied. "How are you,Magda?"
"I'm pretty good,you?" She replied,and sat down in one of the empty chairs.
"I'm okay"
"Where's Cap,and,uh...George?" Jinny asked as she sat down the corner of the bed.
"They went to her house....."
"I think they went to.....talk."Jill added.
"Oh."

"Jinny,we probably need to get going soon." Magda stated as she looked down at her watch. They'd been there for about an hour and half now.
"What time is it?"John asked.
"3:20"
" I'm starting to get worried..."
"Why,Dad?"
"What time did you say they left?" He turned to Jill.
"About 30 minutes before you got here."
"She's been gone for over three hours."He sighed."Maybe I should call her."
"No,I'd wait a while.I mean if that is why they went....This is a big thing..."
"Yeah,Jill's right,Dad."

Kate finally calmed herself down. She looked at the clock as she wiped her eyes. It was 3:15. It didn't seem like it had been that long. She got upangabbed her coat. She started for the door,when she realized that John had her car. She and George had taken a cab. She picked up the phone,and called another one.

"Never did ask you...." Magda broke the silence as they walked down the hall."How are you taking all this?"
Jinny looked at her and sighed,"Um,..... I think i'm taking it pretty well, i guess."
"How do feel about all of this? Abouthaving a sister?...About have Amanda McCafferty for a sister." Magda chuckled a little,nudged her with her elbow.
"Uh,well.....as for having a sister, I've always wanted one. I'm not exactly ecstatic about thefact that She is twenty years old,and I JUST found out about her.....two weeks ago. " She tucked her hair behind her ear,and continued,"And as for her beeing Amanda McCafferty,.....uh....well.....um,it's.....uh..."She chuckled at her lack of words. "It's,uh - -" She stopped mid sentence when she saw a familiar red-head walk into the hospital
"Captain..." She rushed over to her.
"Hi,Jin." Kate sighed. She looked terrible. She'd tried to freshen up a bit,but it didn't do much good. "Well, I told him." She sniffed.
Jinny watched her for a moment,"And, I take it,it go too great......"
"No." She shook her head.
"There anything we can do?"Magda offered.
"No,...but thanx though."
"You sure?" Jinny asked.
"Yeah, you guys go on."
"Okay. I'll be back as soon as I get off." Jinny patted her on the back,as she and Magda started towards the door.
Kate nodded,and headed to Amanda's room.


Okay,that sucked, I know.

That did NOT suck...it was really goooooood!!!

That was awesome! I can not wait for some more! When is the sad part coming up? I am already starting to cry.

"I know what you meant." She sighed "He yelled,he screamed...He threw a glass- -"

"Did it hit you?!"
"Almost. Look ,John, I really don't wanna talk about this. Can we please, drop it?"
"Yeah,sure." He sighed.


"Exstead." Jinny said into the phone receiver.
"Hi, How are ya?"
A smile grew across Her face, "I'm okay. How are you?"
About this time Magda picked up her phone,and pressed a couple of buttons.
"I'm great now."
"Aww!" Magda cooed. "Oops!"
Jinny whirled around in her chair, "Magda!"
"Hi Teddy,Bye Teddy!" She said,and hang up.

"Magda,if you ever do that again,I will kill you!" Jinny warned, before turning her attention back to Teddy. "Hi,you still there?"
"Yeah, I'm here."He chuckled. "And please,don't kill her"
"And why not?"
"Because,if you kill her,you'll probably get the death penalty. And I don't wanna loose ya - -"
"Awww..."
"Even if it for a good cause."
"Teddy!" She laughed.
"What?" Magda inquired.
"Teddy,told me not to kill you, because then I'd get death,and he don't wanna loose me......even if it is for a good cause."
Magda gasped and took the phone from Jinny, "Well,bump you too,Theodore!"
"I'm just kidding ya,Mag"
"You better be!" She chuckled.
"Okay,say Bye bye,Magda." Jinny instructed,as she reached for the phone.
"Your girlfriend is getting territorial,bye.
"Talk to ya later."
Jinny took the phone,and started to put it up to her ear,then stopped. She looked at Magda,then turned to CD and Nate, "You guys watch, Her,if her hand goes near,that......" Jinny noticed the sneaky look on CD's face," Better yet. Nate,since it seems you're the only one i can trust anymore, watch all of them."
"Sure,thing Jin." He laughed.
Jinny,put the phone to her ear. "I'm back."
"Good."


Kate still sat on on Amanda's bed. Still holding her hand. No one had said anything in a while.
They were all lost in their thoughts.
"Would,uh...."Kate broke the silence," Would you guys mind if i had some time alone...with Amanda?"
"No, of course not." Jill stood. "I think, I'll just go home and change."
" Yeah, I am gonna do the same."
"Thanx a lot."
"Don't worry about it,we understand."
"Yeah,we'll call before we head back....incase you want some more time." She grabbed her coat.
"Okay,thanx."
"No problem."

"God,these past two weeks have been so....crazy." Jill commented."Especialy for you,and Kate...." Her voice trailed off.
"Yeah...it has." John sighed. "See ya later."
"Yeah" Jill, got into her car,and John into Kate's.

Raina walked over tomagda's desk and leaned down, "Do you see what I see?" she whispered.
"What do you see?"
"I see sparks.Do you see spark?" She nudged Magda with her elbow.
Magda looked back over her shoulder.


"Hmm,Well smart minds think alike,I guess." CD laughed.
"Apparently. So,ya wanna come over?"
"Sounds like a plan"

"I think you may be right." She whispered,turning back around.
"No maybe about it. I AM right."
"Now what are you two gossiping about?" Jinny asked,as she rolled her chair over to where they were.
"We're not gossiping about anything."Magda replied.
"And,we don't gossip,we discuss."
"Yeah,We discuss."Raina nodded in agreement.
Jinny shook her head and sighed, "When 'discussing' something...."She illustrated quotes with her fingers,
"about someone,that is none of your business,and/or possibly not true......it's called 'gossiping'. And you two are pro's at it."
"We don't gossip." She replied,almost simultaniously.


Kate ran her hand through Amanda's hair, "God Mandy,I am so sorry." She whispered. a tear rolling down her cheek. "This is all my fault." She wiped away more tears "I truely never meant to hurt anybody.........I loved your father. I still do in a way,i guess..."She sighed,"...But,y'know...I don't for one second regret ever sleeping with John. Because then I wouldn't have you." She rubbed her hand. the hand that she'd been holding for a few hours now. "I am SO sorry" She began to sob."Why am I even saying this now? You can't hear me."


"Well, I am outta here."Jinny announced. She put a couple of files in a drwaer,stood up and grabbed her coat.
"Hey,Jinny." Raina stood up and walked over to her. "Are you going to the hospital?"
"Yeah,why?" She put her coat on.
"Just curious. I was gonna stop by later,...if thats okay."
"Uh....actually, I don't know if thats a good idea." She pulled Raina closer,and began to whisper, "See,Cap told ..her,uh...ex-husband....about Amanda...today.
"Oh...." Raina nodded in understanding.
"Yeah,and uh...I just don't think that,uh..."
" Oh, I getcha."
"Sorry."
"Nah,don't worry about it, I understand."
"Okay, good....well,uh..I'll see ya tomorrow."
"K,bye."
"Bye,guys." Jinny said,as she walked out.


Kate had concluded that everything was her fault. If she'd just told everyone then,that John was Amanda's father,so many people wouldn't have been hurt so bad. Well she knew that part. Yeah people would have been hurt,but not so bad.And they'd be over,or at least almost over it by now. And she wouldn't have hurt Amanda the way she did. Sheknew she would never really forgive her for that. And that night, 'Poker Night', John Jr. wouldn't have gotten so angry,and said those things,and Amanda wouldn't have believed him,and wouldn't have been so upset that she wound up in a car-wreck. And she wouldn't be laying in here in this hospital bed,in a coma for the past 4 days! With each thought,Kate began to cry harder. She didn't want to think about it. She didn't want to think. She was tired of thinking. Thats all she did anymore. Think.
Her thoughts were interupted,when she heard the door squeak as it opened. She quickly wiped her eyes,and turned to see who was entering the room, "Oh,uh...Hi,Jin."She sniffed.
"Hey...Cap,whats wrong?"
"N...nothing. Why?" Shewiped her eyes again,but it didn't do any good. The tears kept coming.
"Because, you're obviously doing your d@mnedest not to cry." She handed her a tissue.
"Thanx."
"So...whats wrong?"
"Nothing...I don't wanna talk about it." She sighed.
"Okay,whatever."
Neither said anything else.
Jinny was truely concerned. Not only was it obvious that she had been crying,but it was obvious that she'd been crying really hard. She decided to just drop it. She didn't wanna push her. She'd just opened her mouth to ask where her father,and Jill were, when Kate gave up on holding it in,and began to sob.
"This is all my fault!"She said out of the blue.
"What is?"
"Everything!...Why didn't I tell everyone then!?" She sobbed. "I'ts not John's fault, it's mine! It's my fault! Mydaughter,the most important thing in my life, the thing I cherish MORE then life,is laying in a hospital bed in a coma,because of me!" She rambled.
Jinny was shocked by her sudden outburst. And by what she was saying. She put her arm around her,and pulled her into a hug, "it's not your fault."
"Yes it is, I'm a horrible mother!"
"No, you're not. you've done a - -"
"JInny, I lied to her about who her father is!"
"You're not a bad mother- -"
"I know I'm not a bad mother. I'm a horrible mother."
Jinny sighed,"You're not a horrible mother.....You just...made a mistake. Everybody makes mistakes." She kind of rocked her back her in her arms.
"Well, not mistakes like the one i made! I hurt so many people! SO badly...How could i be so stupid?!"
"Hey you did what you thought you had to do, To save- -"
"To save my marriage. Heh, kind of ironic isn't it?"
"What?"
"I lied to save my marriage,and that ended up being the real reason, I left HIM." She let out a saracastic laugh. "I couldn't stand it anymore. Thats a tough secret to keep."
"Yeah it is pretty ironic." Jinny thought. "Look,you can't change the past ,you can't change what
you did - -"
"She's never gonna forgive me." Kate shook her head.
Jinny assumed she was talking about Amanda, "She already has - -"
"No,not completely. And she never will."
"No, but she put forth the effort to forgive you as much as she can, and thats quite a bit....That should tell you there,...that you've done a pretty good job of raising her. I mean I don't know her that well but- -"
Jinny was interupted,when Kate suddenly got up and walked out,with out saying a word. She got up and ent out into the hallway,where she saw.....


"George!" Kate called,but he didn't answer. "George wait,please!"
George stopped,and turned around to face her., "Can you just do me one favor?"
"What?"
"Tell Mandy, I love her....." He sighed. "And don't ever talk to me again." He didn't wait for a responce,he just walked out.
WHat he said, hit kate,like a sledge hammer hitting glass. She looked back down the hall, and saw Jinny walking over to her. She looked down the hall towards the exit then back at Jinny. "I'll be back." was all she said,then she left.


Wutcha think? Shall I go on?

"George,Wait!!" She grabbed his arm,as she caught up with him. "I'm sorry!!"
He stared at her for a moment,tears in his eyes.Then he pulled his arm from her grasp, "Sorry isn't gonna cut it." He walked away. Kate stood there in the middle of the parking ,watching him walk away. She felt guilty about it, but She wanted...needed to get out of there. She just needed to get away. Away from everything. Just for a little while. She realized she didn't have her car. That was okay,she wasn't really in the mood to drive anyway,so she just walked off.

Jinny had just come back in and started to sit down,just as the phone in the hospital room began to ring,
"Exstead?" She rolled her eyes at herself. That had become a habit.She answered every telephone that way.
"Hi,Jinny?"
"Yeah. Is this Jill?"
"Yeah. I was just calling to tell Kate that I'm getting ready to head back ..."
"Uh,well...She's not here. She left." Jinny ran her hand through her hair.
"She did? Where did she go?"
"I have no idea. I got here and she was really upset, and then......George came by,and he left....I think she went after him, I dunno."
"Oh." Jill sighed. "Well,uh...I'll see ya in a little bit,I guess.
"Okay,bye." Just as soon as Jinny hang up from Jill,the phone began to ring again,
"Exstead?" She sighed.
"Hey,Jin"
"Hi,Dad"
"I was just calling to tell Kate,that- -"
"She's not here,Dad."
"What? Where did she go?"
"I dunno." SHe sighed,and began to explain what happened again "She was really upset when I got here,and then ...George came by,and then he left,and she went after him, I guess."
"Oh. Well, I'll be there in a few, bye."
"Bye."They both hang up.

Kate didn't really know where she was going,and didn't care. As She walked across the crosswalk,she realized she was pretty close to Anchorside.
"What the h*ll." She figured,and headed for the bar&grill.

The doctor had just finished checking on Amanda,and left the room. John and Jill had been back for about 20 minutes or so.
"How long has she been gone?" Jill asked.
"Oh,about...30 or 40 minutes I guess."
"Maybe I should call her" John said,as he picked up the phone.
"Won't do any good." Jinny picked up Kate's purse wich contained her cellphone.
"Maybe they went someplace to talk?" Jill suggested.
"I highly doubt it." John replied.


Kate walked into Anchorside,and made her way,straight to the bar.
"Hey there, Captain McCafferty." Mike greeted."What can I getcha?"
"Uh...a Scotch."
"Comin' right up."
"And make it a double!" She added as he walked off.


"Did she say anything,before she left?"
"No,just that she'd be back." Jinny shrugged.


About an hour,and a....'few' drinks later, Kate was a little on the 'tipsy' side.
"This is your last one." Mike said firmly,refilling her glass
"We'll see about that." Kate replied,and gulped her drink.
"No we won't. I'm cutting you off." He stated,and went to help another customer.
"The customer is always right!" She called back.
"Not this time!"


"She's not answering the phone if she's at home." John sighed as he hang up. He was starting to get worried. It had been about two hours since Kate left,and they hadn't heard from her since.
"You think I should go over there?"
"I'd wait a little while." Jinny replied.


" 'scuse me." Kate said,after she let out a huge belch.
"That was lovely." Mike replied.
"I thought so....gimme another."
"No, I told you that was your last one."
"Please? Just one more,then I'll stop naggin' ya."
"Thats what you said last time."
"I mean it this time."
"You said that last time too."
"Please?"
"No."
"Please?"
"Y'know,you are very annoying,when you're drunk."
"Oh,yeah? And you're almost apealing when I'm drunk."
It took him a second to realize what she'd said,"Hey!"
"Haha"She let out a drunken laugh.
"Kate?"
She turned around to see who was talking to her, "Hi, Theodore, how's it going?"
"I'm good, and you?" He sat on the stool next to her. He could tell that she wasn't exactly sober.
"Pissed. Mike here,cut me off." She rolled her eyes.
"Oh?" He chuckled. "Well, uh...then,why don't I give ya a ride home?"
"Might as well." She said and stood up. " Just,put it on my tab,Mike" She stumbled,and Teddy caught her.
"Will do" Mike laughed. He knew He was one of very few people who ever got to see this side of Kate McCafferty.


"Here let me help ya." Teddy held in his laughter,as he put his arm around Kate,to help her walk straight. "I'm fine" She pushed his arm away He caught her again,when she started stumbled over towards the right.
"Let me carry you."
"No, I can manage."


" Okay,bye, Mag." Jinny said and hang up the phone.
"Any luck?"John sighed.
"She hasn't heard from her." Jinny shook her head. "Why don't you call her house again?"
John, picked up the phone,and dialed the number.,after nine or ten rings, he hang up, "No answer."
"Well, why don't you go over there?"
"Okay....Jill, can ya tell me where it's at?"
"I'll just go with you. It'll be easier."
"Okay"
Just as they were about to leave, jinny's cellphone rang.
"Exstead?...Oh,Hey, Teddy. Hold on a sec." she got up, and went outside. "Okay."

"I was just calling to see how everything is." He said as he opened the passenger side car door.
"Okay." Jinny sighed.
"How is Amanda?"
"She's the same."
"And Kate?" He asked as he helped Kate into the car,and shut the door.
"Uh, actually, We don't know where she is."
"What?" He got in the driver's seat.
"She,uh...she left about,three hours ago,and we haven't heard from her since.And we can't find her." She sighed.
"Oh,really? Because, I didn't have any trouble finding her." He held in laughter.
"What?" Jinny asked in confusion.
"I know where she is."
"Where?"
"Passed out in the passenger seat of my car." He chuckled,as he looked over at her.

She wasn't sure of what to make of what she'd just seen. The sight of her captain drunk,was shocking in it's own. But She left with Theodore. Raina's mind was racing. "Would He?...Naaah" She shook her head.
"But,then again, You don't know him,very well....But He seems like a really nice guy.......Should I tell Jinny?"
"Hey,Raina." A familiar voice interupted her thoughts.
"Oh,hey Dom. How's it going?"


"You can relax, She has been located." Jinny said,as she walked back into the room.
"Where is she?" John asked.
"She is, to quote Teddy, passed out in the passenger seat of his car."She pt her coat on," And safely on her way to our house."
"passed out in the- -"
"He found her at Anchorside....He said,she's totally plastered!"
"Oh god."
"Well, I'm gonna meet'em over there,so..." She kissed her dad on the cheek." bye."
"Are you coming back?"
"Uh,...no, i think i'm just gonna stay home...You'd better call me,if anyhting changes."
"Of course I will."


"Dom,can I ask you somethin'?"
"Shoot." He replied taking a sip of his beer.
She sighed,and began" Okay, lets say that you just saw one of your friends' boyfriend leave the bar,with another one of your friends, who seemed drunk...very drunk. Now,you don't think that He would...y'know- "
"no..I don't know..."
Raina lowered her voice a little, "take advantage of her...."
'Oh,okay,now I getcha,go on..."
"okay,ya don't think that he would. But then again,you don't know him very well. would you tell your friend?"
"Which friend?...is some kind of test?"
"not the drunk one,the...boyfriend's girfriend., and no it's not a test."
"Well, I don't know. Do you have a reason to suspect that he would....,other then the fact that they left together?"
"Well, no. But..."


About five minutes after Teddy pulled into Jinny's driveway, Jinny pulled up..
"Hey." She said getting out of the car.
"Hey." He opened the passenger side door,and got Kate out.
"Boy,this almost like De ja vu,isn't it." Jinny chuckled. as she went to unlock the door.
"Yeah, it is." He replied,as he put Kate over his right shoulder,and started up the steps
Teddy hadn't realized that Kate had come to some what, until,
"Y'know Theodore, this is defenantly your best angle!" She slurred.
"Hey,now!" He jumped,when she grabbed his butt.
Jinny was laughing so hard,that she missed the coat tree,when she went to hang up her coat.
Teddy was beat red,as he carried Kate into the house," Where do ya want put her?"
"Follow me." Jinny continued to cackle,as she started up the stairs,Teddy right behind her.

"Jinny, you laugh like a hyena." Teddy chuckled.
"Funny,thats what she said." Jinny pointed to Kate,as he laid her on Casey's old bed.

"Well,I'm gonna get outta here." Teddy said,as they came down the stairs.
"You sure?"
"Yeah,I got papers and stuff to go over...."
"Workaholic."
"Thats me." He leaned down and kissed her. "I'll see ya tomorrow."
"Okay,bye." She kissed him again and he started to walk out, "Hey wait a minute.'
"No turn back around."
He did as he was told, "What?"
Jinny bent over,and tilted her head a bit, "She's right,this is your best angle."

"You are such a bad winner" Nate said as he tossed a game piece at her.
"That may be,but at least I am a winner." She smirked, "Lets see here,how many games did we play tonight?"
"Three."
"Uh-huh,and how many times have I won tonight.?"
"Three." Nate rolled his eyes,and began to pick up the game.
"Nate?"
"Yeah?"
"Is something wrong?" She asked,as she helped him clean up.
"No." He replied. But infact something was on his mind. He'd planned to do something tonight,that he'd wanted to do for a long time,and he was still trying to work up the nerve to do it."Why?"
"Are you sure? I mean you've just been acting...kind of...nervous.,i guess."
"I'm sure."
CD still wasn't convinced but she decided to just let it go...for now. "What time is it?"
"Uh....10:35"
"Oh...well, I think I'm gonna get out of here,...I'm beat."
"Okay, I'll see ya in the morning."
"Okay,bye.' She said as she put on her coat."...Are you sure there's nothing on your mind?"
"Yeah,I'm sure.'" He nodded, "G'night."
"G'night." She replied and walked out.

Nate stood alone in his apartment for a moment,before he took as deep a breathe as he could and rushed after her.
"CD!" He called to her,as he raced to catch up with her.
"Yeah?"
"Uh...There is...something on my mind..."
"Wha- -" She was interupted when Nate suddenly grabbed her face,and kissed her passionately.
"That." He whispered as he pulled away.
CD stared at him in shock, "Uh...I...uh...I...I...I gotta...go....bye."
"Nate, you stupid idiot! How could you be so dumb?!" He thought,as he watched her walk down the hall.

CD didn't get much sleep that night. She was to busy thinking about what had happened at Nate's. "He kissed me!" She thought. She wasn't sure, what shocked her more : The kiss,or the fact that the more she thought about,the more she actually wanted to smile


As Jinny walked down the hallway,she stopped and looked in on Kate. She Shook her head,and chuckled,as she continued on to her room. She went over to her dresser,and started to open the drawer,she kept her sweat pants in. Then an evil grin grew across her face,as she opened a different drawer and pulled out her Polaroid camera,and checked to see if it had film in it.

Jinny awoke the next morning,to a strange sound. She could figure what it was at first, That is until she heard the toilet flush. She laughed to herself as she slowly sat up in bed. just as she stood up her alarm clock went off. "Hmm,good timing." She thought,as she shut it off,and left her bedroom.

She walked into the bathroom to find Kate,wiping vomit off of her mouth. "Good morning" She chuckled.
"Yeah,whatever." Kate barked.
"Come on,Grumpy, I'll make some coffee." Jinny motioned for her to follow her.
Halfway down the stairs,Kate turned around a rushed back up them,and into the bathroom,again. Jinny could hear her barfing as she went on down the stairs.

When Kate entered the kitchen,she found Jinny sitting on the counter,eating toast. She tried to supress her laughter,when she saw Kate,but it was no use,She began to laugh harder.
"And just what the h*ll is so funny?"
"Oh...nothing." Jinny grinned, as she handed her a coffee mug.
Kate took the mug,and tried to ignore Jinny's cackling as she poured herself some coffee. "D@mn it,Jinny! shut up!"
"I'm...I'm sorry, I...I can't help it!"
Kate laughed when Jinny almost choked on a bite of toast. "Serves you right."
"Bump you."
A few minutes went by. Jinny managed to calm down some,but she still glanced over at Kate,and laughed to herself,every few seconds.
"Oh, for cryin' out loud! It's not that funny!" Kate exclaimed,as she poured herself her third or fourth cup of coffee.
"Oh, Hunny,yes it is! Believe me it is! Oh if only I had caught it on tape!"
"Got what on tape?" She looked at Jinny suspiciously.
"When...when you g...grabbed Teddy's butt,and...and told him it was his best...angle!" Jinny could barely get the words out she was laughing so hard.
"Oh my god! Please tell me you're joking!"
"Nope, not at all." Jinny shook her head.
"Oh god, I can never work with the man again! Oh, I am SO embarrassed!"
"Not as embarrassed as Teddy was!"
"Jinny!"
"Sorry." She snickered.
"I can never work with him again."
"Oh sure ya can. He understands that you were drunk...after all, he is the one that found you."
"Oh god."
"After a little while, the embarrassment,on both parts,will fade away,and you- - well Him,and I will be able to laugh about it." Jinny chuckled.
Kate was about to say something back,when they heard the front door open,
"Hello,hello?!"John Sr. called out.
"In the kitchen!" Jinny yelled back.
Kate grimaced,and put her hand to her head.
"Sorry."
"Good morning Ladies." John greeted,as he walked into the kitchen. "Kate,how are you feeling?"
"Like I just got trampled by a draft horse."

He spit toothpaste into the sink," I wish she'd just...slapped me! instead of ...of...reacting the way she did, it would've been much less embarrassing." He rinsed his toothbrush,and put it up.

"What do I say?" CD walked back into her bathroom,now dressed in a dark-blue turtle-neck sweater,and jeans. "We she talk about it. How do i bring it up? Maybe He'll bring it up." She thought as she turned on her hair dryer.

"I just wanna forget about the whole thing." Nate finished tying his shoe. "Oh gawd,what if she brings it up! What if she want s to talk about it!" He thought outloud,as he grabbed his coat and left.




"Jinny, we need to talk. No,no,no,no....Jinny, Can I talk to you for a moment? yeah, yeah that'll work." Raina practiced how she was going to tell Jinny,about what she 'thought' she saw at Anchorside the night before,as she buttoned her uniform shirt.
"'Look,last night, I saw- - no. Last night at Anchorside.- - no. "
"Raina...Babe? Who are you talking to?" Dom asked as he walked up behind her,and put his arms around her.
"Oh,uh..nobody."
"Uh-huh. And do you talk to this Nobody person a lot?"
"Ooo, I gotta go., I'll see ya tonight." Raina said looking at Dom's watch.

"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" Kate asked,as she took a sip of her coffee.

" I was thinking ...that maybe...well,..that......uh..."John took a deep sigh.

"You were thinking what?"

" I..well,I..I.. want to adopt Amanda.."


Jinny grabbed a pair of jeans out of the bottom drawer of her dresser,and tossed them on her bed,before She headed to her closet to get a shirt, "You'll do." She said to the yellow turtleneck sweater that she pulled out.
She got dressed,and then headed to the bathroom,to brush her teeth,and fix her hair.


" You don't like the idea?" John questioned when Kate nearly choked on her coffee.

"oh, n...no..uh..." She wiped coffee off her chin, "I,uh...I...I like the idea..." An uneven grin grew across her face," I..I just don't know if it's a good idea..."

"Oh" John looked down at the ground in dissapointment.

"At...at least not right now..." Kate sighed, "I think it would be best to wait a while...till things settle down...IF they ever settle down..."

" Things are gonna settle down, Kate." He put his hand on her arm.

"Yeah....Anyway, I just think it would best to wait a while and see how things pan out." She put her hand over his,"see If she wakes up." she thought.

"Yeah,..yeah...you're right."

"Of course I'm right..."She tried to lighten the mood,
"I'm Kate McCafferty, I'm always right."

"That was sooo funny!" Jinny laughed," Really, Cap ,thats one of the funniest jokes I've ever heard! You really should have been an actress,instead of a cop. You wudda been the next Lucille Ball!"

Kate gave Jinny a look, but couldn't hold it for long,even she had to laugh.

"Jinnygirl, you laugh like a hyenna." John stated.

"Why does everybody keep telling me that?!" She rolled her eyes.

"Because you do. ." Kate added. "Well, actually it's more like a hyenna on speed."

"Y'know what, I don't have to stay here and take this, I'm going to work!" she huffed.

"Bye, Jinny girl."He laughed.

"see ya later.' she replied as she started to leave.

"Hold it." Kate grabbed her by her ponytail.

"Ouch, y'know you're a bit of a bitch when you're hung over."

"Wich brings me to my point. If you tell anybody about last night, I'll hafta show ya just how bitchy I can get."

"Y'know in all the......twenty somethin' years I've known you,I don't think I have ever seen you even the slightest bit tipsy."

"Thats because you haven't, now go to work."



When Nate saw CD walk in he almost paniced. He didn't know what to do. He knew he should say hi or something to that effect. But he didn't want to say anything to her. He didn't want to be there at all. He just wanted to crawl under a rock and hide for the rest of his life.

CD had decided to act nonchalant about things.
"Morning.." She mumbled, with an awkward grin.
She didn't get a reply,Nate seemed to be off in his own little world. "Yahoo?" She waved her hand in his face.
"Huh? Oh,uh....Hi." He mumbled making as little eye contact as possible.
"Oh Gawd,this more awkward then I thought!" She thought as she took her seat at her desk.

"Oh gawd, this is weirder then I thought! Nate, you stupid,stupid...stupid idiot!"He thought ,
"You've ruined everything!" He smacked himself in the forehead without realizing it.

"uh,...." CD hesitated. She already knew the answer to her next question," Is something wrong?"

"Oh,uh...no,no I'm fine." He replied. "She's trying to act like nothing happened." He thought,"Why don't you do the same?....Oh gawd,now I'm talking to myself!!"



"Holy cow!You're wearing color!" Magda joked when she saw her partner enter the division.

"Shut up. " Jinny laughed,as she sat down at her desk. She took the picture she'd taken of Kate the night before,out of her back pocket and looked at it ,and laughed to herself.

"Whats so funny?" Magda sipped her coffee.

"Oh, nothing." An evil grin swept across her face as she looked for a place to hide it.

"Come on,tell me."

"It's nothing,really."

"uh-huh,sure." Magda gave up and turned her attention back to her work.



You'd think Raina would have noticed how Nate and CD were acting,but she hadn't.
She was too busy arguing with herself about rather or not to tell Jinny about what she- well thought she saw the night before at Anchorside,"Yes, yes..I should tell her....Oh but she seems to be in a pretty good mood,I don't wanna burst her bubble. But she needs to know. She needs to know what kind of man her boyfriend is. If he's that kind of man. Maybe it's not what it looked like. Maybe Dom's right ,maybe I am just jumping to conclusions...."

"Raina!....Yahoo,earth to Raina,come in Raina!.." Jinny interupted Raina's conversation with herself.

"Huh?What?"

"Answer your phone."

"Oh,yeah,right." Raina picked up her phone.





"So, you're telling me that the parrot called 911."Magda said in disbelief,as she grabbed another slice of pizza and sat down on the corner of Jinny's desk.

"Yep." Nate replied.

"I don't buy it." Jinny added, taking a sip of her coke. "Where did you hear this again?"

"I saw it on some show on Animal Planet." He took a bite of his pizza.

"Animal Planet?"Raina asked.

"It's a tv channel, thats all about...well, animals." Magda explained.

“Oh...”


"Oh fabulous." Jinny thought when she saw D.C. Charles Haysbert walk into the division.

Charles came in and made a beeline to Kate's office. "I take she's not here."He grunted when he saw that the lights were off,and the place was empty.

"Ding,ding,ding! We have a winner!" Jinny smirked.

"There's no need for your saracasm,Exstead."

"There was no need for your birth." She thought.

"Where is she?”

"She's probably at the hospital. Y'know, given the fact that her daughter is a patient there."

Charles shot Jinny a warning look,and turned to Raina," Next time you talk to her,you tell her anymore time she misses,she can consider her vacation." With that, he turned to go.

Jinny wanted to show him where he could shove his vacation,by kicking him in it. And if Magda hadn’t pushed her back into her chair when she started to get up,she probably would have.

"Count to ten,Jin." Magda instructed.

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21... it's not working!...22, 23, 24, 25, 26...."

"Count slowly."

"I can't! I'm too pissed!" Jinny got up,and grabbed her jacket.

"Where ya goin' ?"

"To the hospital."




"Hey."Jinny mumbled as she entered the hospital room. By now she had calmed down quite a bit,but you could still tell that she was pissed about something.

"Hey." everyone replied

"I passed the docter in the hall, how's she doin' ?" Jinny plopped down in the last empty chair.

"a little better, not much has changed though." John informed.

Kate studdied Jinny for a minute,"You're pissed about something. What happened?"

"Haysbert just pissed me off,thats all.Don't worry about it.."

"What did he do this time?" She sighed.

"You've got enough to worry about as it is, just forget about it ." She ran her hand through her hair.





"Hey,I was just on my way up."Teddy said,as he caught up to Jinny.

"Great timing , huh"Jinny gave him a quick kiss,and they got on the elevator together.

"How's Kate?"

"Extremely embarrassed." Jinny showed gave him an evil grin.

"So, you told her what she did last night?' He blushed slightly.

"Yep." She pinched his butt.

"You're mean,you know that." Teddy informed Jinny as the elevator doors opened.

"Yep." She grinned.

"Seriously,though...how are things?" He asked as they made their way down the hallway.

"Uh,well..."Jinny sighed,"Amanda's...basicly still in the same condition....the doctors say she could wake up any minute - -"

"Thats great...isn't it?"

"Or she could pretty much turn into a vegetable."

"Oh.." Teddy felt like he'd just stuck his whole leg in his mouth.

"Dad's trying to be strong as he can.....And, Cap....I'm suprised she's managed to stay sane through all this..."Jinny sighed,as the entered the division.

"What about you? How are you?"

Jinny glanced over at CD & Nate, "Uh, y'know what,can we talk about this later?"

"Oh...yeah,sure."

"Thanks."

"No,problem. I'll,uh, see ya later." He gave her a quick kiss before heading off with CD & Nate.


"Hey,Jin,Can I..uh..talk to you,for a minute?"Raina bit her bottom lip.




"What,Raina?" Jinny asked as they entered the bathroom.

"Hold on." Raina looked under the stall doors, to make sure they were alone. "Okay...." She sighed.

"Okay...what?"

"Well, uh.......uh.....uh,well....uh..." Raina had planned out word for word how she was gonna tell her, but she couldn't get the words to come out.

"Well,uh...uh...what?" Jinny started to grow impatient.

"Well, see last night, I,uh....uh... I - -" Just as she was about to spit it out, Magda walked in.

"Uh,sorry to interupt,but,A,uh... Trixie, just came in. he says she heard shots fired in the alley, around 3 a.m., same night our Mr. Roberts bought his last ticket to 'Lala Land'."

"Oh,it's okay,it,uh...it wasn't important anyway....just forget I said anything." Raina welcomed the intruption.

"All you said was ' Uh...' " Jinny thought as she and Magda walked out.




"So, what did Raina want?"

"She said : Uh...well,uh......"

"Oh,come on Jinny tell me."

"I just did. She said: Uh...well,uh......"

"Oh." They both laughed.





"Jinny go home,and get some rest." Kate suggested when she saw her yawn.

"What time is it?"

"11:40." Kate rubbed her eyes as she looked down at her watch. "Go get some sleep."

"Okay..." Jinny yawned again as she got up,and put her coat on., "See ya tomorrow."

"Are you gonna be okay to drive?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine."

"Okay,well just call me when ya get home,okay."

"Okay.." Jinny patted her shoulder reasuringly. She understood why Kate was so worried. She found herself be much more cautious then she used to be. "G 'night."

"Night."




John Sr. had fallen asleep around 11: 30. He was sitting next to Amanda, leaned forward,on the bed.
It was now about 1: 30. He woke up when he felt someone squeeze his hand. He looked up to see Amanda looking back at him, "Oh, thank God!" He jumped up,and hit the button to call a nurse,over and over again.

"Jinny?...Jin,wake up. Your cell is ringing." Teddy shook her gently. "Jinny,your cell is ringing."
"...You get it..." She wined ,not budging from her position.
Teddy sighed,and picked up her phone,"Hello?"
"Who is this?"
"This is Teddy.,your turn."
"Casey. Sorry I woke you,Put Jinny on please."
"It's okay,hold on." Teddy shook Jinny again,"Jin,wake up. It's Casey."
Jinny took the phone from Teddy,still not moving from her position."What's up,Case?" She asked in a groggy voice.
"Hi,Jin....I'm at the hospital... Amanda- -"
Jinny finally sat up,when she heard Casey mention the hospital and Amanda,"Is everything okay?" she rubbed her eyes.
"Yeah,yeah,everything is fine...Great actually...she woke up."
"She's awake!?" Jinny jumped out of bed and started gathering her clothes.
"Yeah,she woke up about.."Casey looked at his watch,"twenty minutes ago."
"How's she doing?" She found all her clothes except her shirt so she wore Tedy's shirt that she'd been sleeping in.
"She's groggy..and a little confused...but she's doing good."
"Okay,well, I'm on my way,I'll see ya in a little bit." Jinny hang up the phone and turned to Teddy,"I'm going to the hospital,Amanda's awake. I'm borrowing your shirt." She kissed him,"I'll see ya later." She rushed out.
"Bye - -" He didn't even get the word completely out of his mouth before he heard the door slam.



Kate was freezing as she stood out in front of Saint Steven's Hospital in the wee hours of the morning.
"Come on will you pick up already?" She was afraid to talk to him right now.So soon after things had pretty much exploded. But Amanda wanted her Dad,the one that raised her. And that was more important.
"Hello?" He finally answered.
Kate hesitated.
"Hello?" He asked again.
"Hi,George...It's Kate" She sighed. "Please,Don't hang up - -"
"Why shouldn't I?"
"George,Please....Amanda's awake,and...she's asking for her Dad - -"
"Well,then what the h*ll are you calling ME for?"
"George - -" Kate was cut off when she heard a dial tone.
Kate stared at her cell phone for a moment before she shut it off. She felt like crying at that moment,but she couldn't.Maybe she ran out of tears or something. Just as she started back inside she heard someone call her name.
"Cap,wait up!" She called as she ran up to her.
"Hi,Jin."
"Anything new?" Jinny asked as they continued inside together.
"Ya mean since you talked to Casey what ten minutes ago?"
"I was at Teddy's is not that short a drive."
"Yeah,I can tell you were at Teddy's." Kate tugged on the men's shirt she was wearing.
"I couldn't find mine" Jinny flashed a sly grin.



When her alarm clock went of at 6:30 a.m. CD had already been awake for about an hour if not more. She couldn't stop thinking about that kiss.She'd even dreamed about it. She knew that they had to talk about it. And she planned to. But she wasn't sure when the right time to bring it up was. She grunted as she shut the clock off and finally got out of bed and went about her daily routine of a twenty minute workout before getting ready for work,and stopping at McDonald's on the way to the station to get breakfast for her and Nate.



So,wutcha think??
