"The Real" Gets 2-Season Renewal on Fox Stations

On the strength of year-to-year ratings gains, "The Real" has become the first syndicated talk show show in years to earn a third-season renewal.

And the panel show has done one better than that, getting a renewal for a third and a fourth season by its core station group, the Fox TV Stations, where the talker originated with a trial run in summer 2013.

"The Real", from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, also has become the first freshman or sophomore syndicated talk show this season to get a pickup for next fall.

In Season 2, "The Real" is up +14% nationally in the key women 25-54 demo, one of only four talk shows in the past 10 years to post sophomore-season ratings improvement. "The Real" also is one of only two talk shows seeing national rating gains year-over-year this fall.

On the Fox stations, season to date, "The Real" (0.9 in women 25-54) is even with last season. Paired with "Wendy Williams" in 16 of the top 25 LPM markets, "The Real" is retaining 100% of its "Wendy Williams" lead-in share season to date with all key female demos.

“The Real has been an important piece in building our growing daytime lineup,” said Frank Cicha, SVP Programming at Fox Television Stations.

“In fact, in our universe, it often beats or ties The View. That alone is worth two more years in my book.”

“The Real in its second season has expanded on its promise of connecting with the diverse daytime television viewers and is delivering substantial ratings growth in the process,” said WBDTD president Ken Werner.

“The series did not invent this genre of television program, nor are they only talk panel on television, but what The Real has done is differentiate itself from the others, quickly becoming an original, distinct and entertaining hour that has giving viewers a reason to make an appointment each and every day.”

"The Real" panel is hosted by Tamera Mowry-Housley, Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon and Jeannie Mai.

Daytime syndicated talker "The Real" has been cleared for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons on television stations covering more than 95% of the country. That includes Fox TV Stations as part of a deal announced in October.

The Daytime Emmy-nominated series is posting ratings growth in its second season and is strong in social media, ranking second in daytime to "Ellen" in total social action and with more than 447 million YouTube views to date.

“The Real has carved out an impressive home in the daytime space,” said Ken Werner, President of Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

“The uniqueness of the series is not in its format, but rather in its hosts, whose individuals voices are distinctive and fun and collectively have created a unique destination for conversations that cannot be found elsewhere. Growing in their second season is a great achievement and is a leading indicator of continued success and growth in the years ahead.”

Hit daytime syndicated talker "The Real" is coming back for two more seasons. Fox Television Stations has renewed the series for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons on their O&Os in 17 markets, reaching over 37% of television homes.

The Daytime Emmy-nominated series has grown into a social media powerhouse with more than 12 million social actions last season and on is on pace to eclipse that number midway through this season. In addition, "The Real" has the youngest average age of all talk shows in syndication, at 51.

“Since 2010-11 season, 23 talk shows have launched and ’The Real’ and ‘Steve Harvey’ are the only two series to last four or more seasons,” said Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

“While there are other panel talk series on the air, what truly makes ‘The Real’ stand out from the pack is that it is comprised of four very strong, very authentic and very engaging hosts whose chemistry is unrivaled. Fox has been with us since the start, and we are thrilled that together we have built a strong franchise that will continue to entertain, inform and inspire viewers for years and years to come.”

“On one hand, it’s very gratifying to be renewing a program that started as a test,” said Frank Cicha, Senior Vice President, Programming, Fox Television Stations.

“On the other hand, it doesn’t matter how it got here. Warner Bros. set out to fill a void and it fit our audience perfectly. Congrats to the cast and crew.”
