So what are some of your favorite horror remakes?

Mine are: (I've probably forgot some)

Maniac (2012) - Elijah Wood really impressed me in this one. Also really liked how it was all done from Elijah's point of view (through his eyes)

The Fly (1986) - I like this more than the original.

The Thing (1982) - Though the original is a classic, this one somewhat sticks more to the original short story. Groundbreaking special effects.

Night Of The Living Dead (1990) - Really good remake, I like that they didn't stick with the original ending, and went in a new direction. Still, nothing on the original.

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978) - The original is a classic, but I find this film more terrifying, scared the bejeebus outa me when I saw it at the drive in when I was 8.

Dawn Of The Dead (2004) - Fun zombie film. I admit, when I first heard about this I wasn't going to watch it as the original 1978 film is my favorite horror film of all time. But USA Network showed the first 10 mins uncut on TV so I decided to watch it. I was sold and went and saw it in the theater.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) - Another I didn't think I would like, but it's a fun movie. Still not a fan of the who Leatherface skin condition thing.

Nosferatu (1979) - A brilliant underrated remake of the 1922 silent classic.

Carrie (2013) - Yeah, I said it. Granted this is no where as good as the original, I still enjoyed it. This is a direct remake of the 1976 film, with bits of the book added that the original film left out.

The Hills Have Eyes (2006) - Another I didn't think I would enjoy. I loved the look of the mutant family.

I Spit On Your Grave (2010) - Some of the revenge moments felt a little to Saw-ish to me, but still a very solid film.

Let Me In (2010) - A remake as good as the original, based on the 2008 Swedish film Let The Right One In.

Fright Night (2011) - I liked Colin Farrel's portrayal of the vampire. I like how since we don't really have TV horror hosts anymore, Peter Vincent is a Las Vegas magician.

Piranha (2010) - Fun, gory. Definitely better than the 90s remake.

Friday The 13th (2009) - Mindless fun, more of a remake of parts 1-4. People complain about Jason having traps, yet have no problem with him going into outer space.

My Bloody Valentine (2009) - The original is my favorite slasher of all time. I thought this movie was fun, especially in 3D.

When A Stranger Calls (2006) - I enjoyed how this made the opening moments of the original as the plot of the entire film. Also really liked the look of the house.

2001 Maniacs (2005) - Fun update of HG Lewis' Two Thousand Maniacs. Some outstanding gore effects.

The Blob (1988) - Though this didn't have the cool factor of Steve McQueen, I in some ways like it more than the original.

Cat People (1982) - And not just because of Nastassja Kinski.

Come Out and Play (2012) - Creepy remake of the 1976 kill kids flick Who Can Kill A Child?

Little Shop Of Horrors (1986) - Granted this is more of an adaptation of the musical stage play based on the 1960 horror film.

Mother's Day (2010)- This easily could have been released as its own film as it's more of a home invasion movie, which the original was not.

Silent Night (2012) - Another that easily could have been released as its own movie. Though both feature a killer dressed as Santa, that's where the similarities end.

The Crazies (2010) - Though I'd say this has more in common with films like 28 Days Later.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown (2014) - Though this isn't really a remake, but, not sure the word for it, sequel maybe?

Toolbox Murders (2004) - Another that could be its own film, the screenwriters said when they wrote it they had never seen the original, and just knew they had to make a film set in a apartment building with tools as the killer's weapons.

We Are What We Are (2013) - Remake of the 2010 Mexican film.

The Thing (1982) - Though the original is a classic, this one somewhat sticks more to the original short story. Groundbreaking special effects.

Have you seen the 2011 film? I hear it's a prequel to the original.

Night Of The Living Dead (1990) - Really good remake, I like that they didn't stick with the original ending, and went in a new direction. Still, nothing on the original.

One of my favorite horror remakes.

Dawn Of The Dead (2004) - Fun zombie film. I admit, when I first heard about this I wasn't going to watch it as the original 1978 film is my favorite horror film of all time. I really liked this one, too.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) - Another I didn't think I would like, but it's a fun movie. Still not a fan of the who Leatherface skin condition thing.

IMO, R. Lee Ermey was the best thing about this one and The Beginning. I don't think I would have enjoyed them as much if it weren't for him.

It was okay, yeah it tries to be a prequel, but feels more like a remake, though it is about the Swedish group that we hear about in the 1982 version.

He definitely stole the show. But hey, they're both better than that fiasco Texas Chainsaw 3D. What a train wreck that was.

Can I throw in a reversal? I didn't like the Rob Zombie HALLOWEEN. It couldn't touch the original.

Of course you can.

I didn't list Woman In Black (2012), because it adapted from the book, rather than the 1989 TV movie. That's also why I didn't include any of the Draculas or Frankensteins.

Torgo, here some you didn't mention (either cause you forgot or didn't like it) and I'm curious to hear your opinion on them:

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010)
Poltergeist (2015)
Night of the Demons (2009)
Evil Dead (2013)
Prom Night (2008)
Village of the Damned (1995)
The Omen (2006)
The Last House on the Left (2009)

The Last House on the Left (2009)

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark, I did like, Bailee Madison was good as the little girl. Very different from the original, other than they both have little creatures in them.

Poltergeist, haven't seen yet. Am curious though.

Night Of The Demons, didn't like it at all. Just remember it being loud and annoying. Too bad because I'm a big Tiffany Shepis fan. Read they're making a sequel.

Evil Dead, awful. Even watched it twice. Did like Ash's cameo.

Prom Night, almost felt like a made for Lifetime thriller. More of a stalker movie. I rented the DVD from Netflix, tried listening to the DVD commentary since it was there, Brittany Snow was so annoying I had to shut it off.

Village Of The Damned, I like Christopher Reeves, so I enjoyed it for him, but nothing special.

Haven't seen either The Omen or Last House On The Left, though I am curious about both, just hadn't got around to watching them.

If you haven't seen it yet, check out Trick r Treat (2007), an anthology set on Halloween. Really captures the atmosphere of the holiday.

Also for some good recent spookiness:

We Are Still Here (2015)
The Innkeepers (2011)
The Last Shift (2014)
The Babadook (2014)

I think Curse Of Chucky works well enough as a remake/reboot.

Torgo, have you heard anything new regarding Trick 'r Treat 2?

I know Michael Dougherty wants to do it, but I don't know if anything has officially begun.

Haven't heard anything new, sounds like it's still a go though. Dougherty has his new Christmas horror movie Krampus coming out this December. Looks promising.
