I always felt he did a great job as an actor in the role of George. For someone who was not trained in acting, he was just as good as anyone on the cast. Got the feeling, however, that he might have been somewhat intimidated by Christopher Hewitt but was too macho to show it. And Hewett felt he was better trained as an actor but had "some" respect for Uecker.

Bob Uecker also sang quite well in the episode where George decided to become a lounge singer!

I thought Bob Ueuker did a great job playing George! He was a great casting choice. I didn't realize he didn't have any acting experience before! I knew he was mainly a baseball player, but I thought he also had other acting jobs too, he was good!

And when he did the Pilot, he was originally written as a Construction Worker. Good thing they re-wrote the character, when ABC picked up the show.
It doesn't even somewhat seem right to me to see Uecker play as someone with a non-sports occupation.

Indeed, it's just as weird as seeing Bob Saget play Danny Tanner in such a macho role as a sportscaster on Full House.
Apples and oranges!
Two different types of roles, two different types of actors.
Can't compare the two.
It's like comparing Roseanne Barr to Bea Arthur.

The real Bob Eucker is much funnier than any character he's ever played.
