and do we know much about the move? It must have been close to the first house as the boys stay at the same schools.

They didn't have an episode where they actually showed the move. It happened between the end of Season 2 and the beginning of Season 3.

I started watching season 3 last night and the boys bedroom looked the same, and the boys go to the same school, so that is why I was asking

That is correct! The boys bedroom looked basically the same in both houses!!!;)

Isn't the second bedroom slightly bigger?
But yeah the layout is pretty much the same, even have their own private bathroom again.

I think the move was forecast (foretold?) because in one episode, Ward and June announce that they're going to go, via car, to look at houses. I just can't recall anything more though.

After the series ended, eventually Marcus Welby MD moved in, hung up his shingle, and modified the front entrance area...!:)

They went looking for houses in several episodes, then the final ep of Season 2 they talk about buying the house, and the boys were all excited they'd have their own rooms, which of course didn't happen.

Righty Oh. As Felix The Cat used to say. I just recently watched those Season 2 shows and am now in the Season 3 shows (I watch one a week). During the Season 2 shows it is talked about often about looking for a house to move to and then in Season 3, wa la, they're magically already in the new house. There was never an episode where the Cleavers actually moved. Strange though, they must have moved clear to the next street down because Larry was still able to walk to their house and Beaver still went to same school. But I do remember as a kid some other kids in the neighborhood "moving" but the move was just to a house a few streets away. We never moved, when we did it was to another town not down the street.

Thanks for all of the info...!

I'm reminded of a My Three Sons episode from around Season 10 when Ernie's best friend Gordon (Butch Patrick) is going to move. Then (spoilers) we find that he remains in the same neighborhood...!

Thanks for all the info.
I was confused when Beaver got the going away party if he was still going to be going to the same school.

Also, I thought it was kind of odd to move to a bigger house when Wally had only 2 years or so left at home and then he was going to be gone to college and they would be stuck with a big house with less people in it.

Don’t they move in every episode? Do they stand completely still the whole time in all but one of them?

Like the other posts said there was no episode about them moving. The new house just appeared in Season 3 but there was a storyline in I believe episode 4 where Beaver goes to his old house to dig up a tree. I personally hated the 1st house and also felt the show really came into its own starting with season 3!

I really disliked that first house, too. One thing, they made a mistake during the first season--when the swinging door to the kitchen opened (the kitchen entrance by the stairs) all you saw from the hall was a white backdrop instead of the kitchen set. They corrected that in season 2--someone must have noticed.

Anyway, the layout of the main floor was confusing. Even the exterior shot wasn't a very nice-looking house. For season three it was a night and day difference. A much nicer, modern house with an understandable layout.

No wonder the family moved!

I never noticed that thing in Season 2! I also hated the 1st house and to me the series really took off with the new house in Season 3; My personal opinion is I felt the 1st 2 seasons they were just trying to get into their roles and the family dynamics. I never watch those episodes!

That's an interesting point of view. Some people see the first two seasons as quintessential. There were indeed many classic episodes and situations in those seasons. Think of Beaver and Larry playing hooky, Beaver smoking the pipe, and Wally's haircut and new suit. In Season 1 the roles and dynamics and the overall pace of the show were still evolving. I just watched "Water, Anyone?" yesterday (we're having a heat wave where I live so I thought that was appropriate) and I noticed how slow and phlegmatic the pacing was, completely different from the snappy pace of later seasons. I think Season 3 was the best overall. The first two seasons feel oddly old-fashioned at times, almost like something from the 1930s or 40s. Ward seemed a bit short-tempered with the kids, and he and June acted like they were channeling Ricky and Lucy. The last seasons feel much more modern, as if we've moved up a few decades instead of only a few years. As for the houses, I liked both but I prefer the second one.

My point of view only--I just don't like that set design in the first two seasons. I think season 2 has many classic episodes. There are also a few classics in season 1, such as Beaver running away.

The first two seasons have a definite charm. I would not want to be without them.

I always thought the the houses changed for the show was moved from the production/studio facility to a new studio. The house they used in the first few seasons was not in the same production area as the newer studio. So a new house has to be found. Also did the show change networks.??

It switched from CBS to ABC after the first season.

That's what I heard or read, too. The first two seasons were filmed at Republic Studios, and the rest of the seasons were at Universal Studios.

The move was never mentioned but it was close to the first one because in an early episode of season 3 the plot involved Beaver going to get his little tree from the old house.

For me, this episode is one of the funniest.

"Why me"?

"Do you want me to tell you why you"?

Yeah, this was really funny. Ward is talking on the phone to the new owner of their old house, telling him the neighbors are good at imagining things (like seeing Beaver digging up a tree).

Just then June points out to him Wally and the Beaver dragging a wagon with the tree in it, in the back yard.

The Why me line is Wally wondering why he's in trouble,

The tree episode is one of my favorites, though people rarely list it as a favorite.
