Unfortunately, this is not a myth: Discovery has decided to cancel "Mythbusters". The upcoming 14th season of the Emmy-nominated series will be its last.

"Mythbusters", hosted by Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, is Discovery's longest-running show. Since it premiered in 2003, the series has featured guest appearances from Seth Rogen, Aaron Paul, President Obama and others.

"Making Mythbusters has fundamentally and irrevocably altered the way I think as a person, as an artist, and as a scientist," Savage said in a statement. "I'm glad for the chance to say goodbye with some of the best television we've ever made. I will miss making this show."

Added Hyneman: "I never dreamed we would be on television at all, much less for such a long time and with so much praise for keeping a thought provoking show on the air. And best of all, we were able to do what we do and still have all our fingers and toes."

In its final season, "Mythbusters" will "tackle some of the biggest myths they've ever tested," and have "figured out the ultimate way to go out with a bang."

Episodes of "Mythbusters" will continue to air on the Science Channel after the show completes its run.

The final season kicks off on January 9.

The Discovery Channel series, says Christopher Bonanos, "revealed something striking: a national hunger for data-driven authority, and the methodology that delivers it.”

Mythbusters is one of the few current shows that I watch. I loved it over the years but they've run out of things to do and it's now repetitive. I'll really miss Jamie who I consider a kindred spirit.

As the Discovery Channel series wraps up Saturday, Adam Savage looks back at what it took to put together MythBusters. “It’s impossible to overstate how important the crew was to MythBusters,” he says. “When you have a bond, and it’s genuine, there’s a special magic that can occur. There’s no formula for making a great show. It is an alchemy. But I think one of the key (ingredients) is that everyone who works on it feels the same amount of investment.” PLUS: A look back at MythBusters history (http://mashable.com/2016/03/04/last-episode-of-mythbusters-ever/), 7 times the show tackled impossible tasks (http://www.tvinsider.com/article/77319/mythbusters-episodes-tackling-impossible-tv-show-situations/), and the 4 most important things MythBusters taught the world (http://www.wired.com/2016/03/4-important-things-mythbusters-taught-world/).
