View Full Version : BARBARA'S CRISIS
A key episode, shown on Mothers Day [I saw it]., then skipped. I'm hoping you watch or record tonight so I can hear your opinions. I've been waiting since May. I also hope you saw the set-up yesterday, where Barbara and Mark got engaged, and Ann freaked out and got drunk.

I Missed yesterday's eps!!! Ann got drunk??? I'll be watching tonight .I missed "Barbara's crisis " last time around!!! ;)
1960'sTVfan 10-18-2015, 05:32 PM I'll try to watch. I saw the episode "Ann's Failure", yea Ann really freaked out. She was bad, I couldn't believe it. That woman is way overly dramatic. Maybe Ann was jealous because now both her daughters had a man in their life, and she didn't. So she hooked up with Mark's dad.
Bonniegirl 10-18-2015, 05:40 PM OH F!!!!!!!!! It seems I missed a good ep!!!! I'm mad!!! My face looks like the bulldog in my avatar right now!!!!

It wasn't the greatest episode, but Ann's meltdown was really something to see. She was bad. Sorry if you missed it.

When isn't Ann having a melt-down? That woman is so overly dramatic and way over the top. Most of the time, she behaved like she belonged in a mental institution.

And at the end of the episode, she broke down again and cried like a baby on her Mom's shoulders. Yea, it was quite a meltdown.

She needed to be medicated.
Bonniegirl 10-18-2015, 10:11 PM Was it worse than the meltdown she had at her 36 or 37th birthday (whichever it was) party ep?

It would help to watch 'em back to back, but let's see. At 36 she was sober and alone, monologuing to the mirror. Yesterday she was drunk and with Schneider in his apartment. The themes were probably the same. So tough choice.
By the way, if they ever were thinking of an Ann/Schneider one night stand ep, it would have been that one.

Yea I'd say it was much worse. At her 36th birthday, Ann seemed just a little depressed and ended up talking to herself. In the episode yesterday, she broke down bad. If I recall the events, first she got into it with Barbara, then she must have gone out into the freezing cold by herself because Schnieder brought her to his apartment and she was shivering. Then Schnieder gave her a blanket to warm up, she drank brandy from Schnieder and got drunk. Then at the end of the episode, Ann is back in her apartment and her mom is there too. She melts down again and breaks out crying on her Mom's shoulder. She was over dramatic for most of the episode.

Good points. I was watching this morning right before the Jet game, and forgot her totally ruining Barbara's happiness, and then aimlessly wandering out into the cold. I'm changing my first answer. This one was worse.
Bonniegirl 10-19-2015, 01:15 AM WHOA!!!OMG!!!!! Well I already copied and I'm ready to paste my response to Barbara's crisis. Now it seems like Ann was having a bad crisis!!!!
Here is my post from another thread!!!
Ahh!!! She had Endometriosis!! That is when a woman's period will not all come out and it attaches itself to the ovaries or fallopian tubes or other organs ,but she will still have periods, usually heavy painful periods!! , and that CAN cause sterility but not all the time, just not being able to conceive easily!! !! It didn't go into details in the show but it never was said that Barbara was having "female problems" plus it usually isn't virgins, tends to be girls that are sexually active and maybe had an infection before!
Anyway, a gyno might say, there is a chance that you will have trouble conceiving , but this was overly dramatic!!! I seriously doubt the Dr. would come right out and say you won't be able to have children!!! This was the early 80's and Endometriosis wasn't that known yet, so , I seriously doubt unless Barbara went in to the appointment complaining of heavy ,painful periods and bad pain and extensive tests were done this would even be detected on her first visit let alone a Dr. saying you won't be able to have children!
Not for a million dollars could I intelligently contribute to a discussion of Endometriosis, so I'm skipping that.
But nitpicking characters is more in my wheelhouse. When Barbara first tells Mark, she opens with "Maybe we shouldn't see each other anymore" When Mark comes back he opens with "I want kids. I really want kids." There are probably better ways to begin each conversation.

Yeah!!! But Mark still wants to get married and he really loves her!!!;)
Now ,I will get off of my medical soap box, and back into the story!!! It was sad for Barbara! She seems like a girl that should have children. Plus Julie being pregnant right than, that would be rough to be told you can't have kids when your sister is expecting!!! I'm thinking now that the writers might have been thinking ahead. And not knowing how Mack will be from week to week. Maybe they did have in mind that eventually Julie's baby would be adopted by Barbara and Mark!!!! ;)
But again (and I won't get as steamed up as last night) but I think they should have at least made this more realistic, like Barbara should have been having bad pains and female troubles leading her to go to the doctor, because like I said I doubt this would even come up at a routine gyno exam of a girl who felt fine, esp. a virgin! They should have had Barbara be sick and that was how it was found out! Not that I want her to be sick or anything, well you know what I mean, to make it more realistic!!! ;)
