They're showing two episodes of this every night at 9 ET. They're in the third season now, solidly in the sweet spot for the series. It just pulls you in - a huge cast of complex characters. It was first on in that little sitcom wasteland in the early 80s, and I'm not sure that it wasn't the funniest show on then, as well as great drama. It's moving toward the sequence where Dennis Franz has his early guest shot as Benedetto, which is probably the dramatic high point of the series.

One legitimate criticism of the show is that any sympathetic guest character appearing early in an episode was likely to be murdered by the end, but that's not such a problem early on. I also think the female characters (as in all Bochco shows) are generally one-dimensional. Overall, though, it's a terrific program.

I saw Hill Street Blues on Heroes And Icons a few minutes ago and it's such a classic show with neat storylines and the magic that the late Steven Bochco used to bring Hill Street Blues to life. And with fun characters such as Pizza Man made Hill Street Blues what it was. And the theme song is so iconic it's no secret that it was a top hit in the 80's and with Mike Post's amazing piano it's very soothing. I can honestly say Heroes And Icons has done an amazing job bringing back reruns of 80's shows back to TV again
