GEMM, Global Electronic Music Marketplace, is now a memory in the land of the internet. From what I read, the website was in financial trouble, sales were lagging so the owner shut the site down a few months ago and declared bankruptcy. That's unfortunate. :(

GEMM was around for about 20 years, I made several music purchases thru GEMM over the years. The website interface never changed much, some complained about it and said it was difficult to navigate and make purchases. I never had a problem with it.

I don't shop for vinyl records that much currently, maybe once in a while but that's about it. Recent vinyl record purchases I've made were thru ebay, and have turned out well.

i used to buy stuff from there - obscure things that weren't on Amazon.

I would guess that Amazon, eBay and iOffer were to much to compete against.

The thing that was great about GEMM was that vinyl record sellers from all over the world would advertise there. It was a great place to shop for rare, difficult to find records. Thru GEMM, I purchased some rare, original issue, mint condition 45's from the 50's and 60's. A few of my favorite purchases were:

Julius LaRosa- Domani/Mama Rosa
Rusty Draper- In The Middle Of The House/Pink Cadillac
Tommy Edwards- Morning Side Of The Mountain/Please Mr. Sun
Ginny Zee- Bobby Baby/You Can't Imagine
Janie Grant- Priceless Possession/That Kind Of Boy
Nell McBride- Yours Forever/Old Enough
Curley Barrix- Blue Ribbon Clown/I Talk In My Sleep
Gunter Kallman Chorus- Wish Me A Rainbow/The Day The Rains Came
