View Full Version : How about a 24 hour "Law and Order" network?
Yong Fang 10-11-2015, 10:09 AM Since I have been back to the United States for a visit, I have noticed the Law and Order franchise on several different channels on different times, all day long. Basically there are three Law and Order shows, the original, which has been on 20 years, the L&O SVU show, which is still in production with 15 seasons in the can, and the L&O Criminal Intent program, which while cancelled was on at least five years.
So from all three shows is around 40 years of shows, and they are all still popular, so why not just have a dedicated network which shows nothing but Law and Order programming 24 hours a day? I think it would work. Opinions?

Personally, I think that such a channel would work for fans of Law and Order; I hate to admit it, but the Law and Order franchise was never my cup of tea. It does have a fanbase, though, for which this channel would work.
Mrgman 10-12-2015, 02:00 AM usa shows enough of it along with ncis
Edward216 10-12-2015, 03:38 AM I'd watch it. But then I'd never get anything else done. LOL.

Regulus 10-12-2015, 10:45 AM I LOATHE "Block Programming" as those in the TV business call it. If the show they're running is your cup of tea knock yourself out! On the other hand if you don't get off on what they are showing too bad, because that's what they are showing all day. I like VARIETY, and that's what's lacking on many channels during the day. Come prime time they most likely show some "Reality" shows, then after that it's infomercials through the night. :rip:
loaferman 10-13-2015, 02:00 PM They are pretty close to that now. It has really gotten ridiculous. USA is mostly Law & Order and NCIS, Ion is mostly Criminal Minds or Bluebloods, and GSN is 90% Family Feud.
No matter how much one likes a show, at some point you have seen every episode at least twice. Plus many are sped up, cut, or are just full of commercials due to time-slot tinkering (I'm looking at you TVLand).
I flip by GSN now and I think I have seen every Steve Harvey Family Feud except the ones now airing in daytime when I'm at work.
BigManMike 10-13-2015, 06:00 PM Ion plays super long marathons of Law and Order and Criminal Minds everyday with paid programming in the wee hours. One of the most useless channels ever.

I agree. Occasionally someone on here waxes nostalgically about how great Block Party Summer was on Nick at Nite. To me, that was the beginning of the end and lazy programming.

I agree. I like NCIS, Criminal Minds and Blue Bloods but I don't watch the reruns. Maybe if they only aired once a day. I loathe block programming. It's destroyed all decent channels.
king of comedy 10-13-2015, 06:28 PM OH PLEASE!! Don't we have enough reruns on USA and TNT to keep fans happy?
Yong Fang 10-14-2015, 11:56 AM I am the OP.
Came back to the United States after 14 years overseas and noticed a lot of "block programming" and noticed several different channels doing it. Got to watch Seinfeld for two hours between 5pm-7pm weekdays. Esquire Network did Parks and Recreation marathons once a week, another does Sanford and Son, about six to eight episodes one night, lots of examples of that. However, they might do a long block of a show I did not like. So to me, this new strategy is hit and miss.
Law and Order incarnations seem to be showing on two or three different networks, and it seems to be on a lot, all the time. I am a fan of the franchise. the parent show was on 25 years. SVU has been on for 16, the other show was on for about eight years and is shown in reruns also (not a big fan of that show, although I like the lead female detective).
Honestly, I think it would work and they could have different blocks of showing the older shows with Ben Stone, the more recent episodes, all the episodes with Lennie Briscoe (all Lennie, all the time!). I think it would work and I would watch it, and there is enough of a fanbase who would watch it all the time.
Another series, Gunsmoke. Have a 24 hour Gunsmoke channel. 20 years of that program and a lot of episodes per season. Or have, for two examples, 24 hour Seinfeld reruns. Or 24 hour Andy Griffith Show network.

Do we really need a 24 hour network?

No we don't.
Coffeecup 10-14-2015, 07:04 PM I have never watched any episode of the shows. So a 24 hour network wouldn't wet my appetite.
Edward216 10-15-2015, 03:27 AM There are those of us (like me) that would enjoy it. If you don't like that kind of thing (or any kind of "block programming") you can always turn the TV off and find something else to do. But I will admit there are a few episodes of Law And Order I don't like and having seen them once or twice I won't watch them again. But the majority of them I will.

yankeesrj12 10-17-2015, 01:56 AM Block programming is more popular today because binge watching is popular. Networks can run 4-8 episodes of a show because it's easy to sit down and continue watching. If I see Law and Order on for a few hours, I'll probably end up leaving the television on that channel. As soon as it switches to another series, say Bones or Castle, I change the channel. Block programming keeps audiences tuning in for awhile, and allows them to essentially binge watch.
TKMetal 10-17-2015, 12:23 PM A Cops channel would probably work too.
