The first ep. tonight, Alex with his school project!!! Come on!!!! BORING!!! How much longer do we have to put up with these Alex and Nick eps!!! :(

The second ep wasn't great either. that overly smart tutor kid of Barbara's becoming her boss!!! At least Larry from Three's company made it a little bit funnier and bearable!! What a duddy season this is!!! :(

I didn't think the episodes were so bad. Not the greatest, but not that bad either.

I like this season because Julie is gone, I never cared for her anyway. Now with her out of the picture, Schnieder gets more to do. In fact, he's almost become the main star of the show. In some episodes, he has more screen time than Ann does. In the episode last night with Alex science project, Ann wasn't seen that much and was a secondary character.

Wow!!!I don't want to sound like the Grim Reaper and have the guy die!!!! :( It seems they went to a lot of lengths on a storyline bringing him in only to just be a filler for one season while Mack cleaned up and got her job back ! I guess ratings got lower and that is why they decided he wasn't working out and bring Julie and Max back! A shame they had to kill him off though! IDK like I said instead of the big story line of Ann's new business partner and love interest, maybe just have he and Alex be new neighbors that moved in the building, and Ann and he were attracted and hooked up sometimes!!!;)

Well regardless, IMO a boring season and Nick was just a filler in, not really needed !! So glad my Max is coming back and if he must bring that wife Julie with him ,so be it!!

You have to be on the "main" One Day at a Time page to start a new thread. You can't start a new thread when you are in somebody else's thread. Does that make sense? LOL

Anyway, I don't like Julie's wedding episode for reasons we've discussed before. I always feel like I missed something because they never showed how Julie and Max first met.

Go back to70's threads and get into the One day at a time section. You'll see in the left hand corner of the page a picture of a TV set that says "New Threads" ! Click on that, and all you need to start the new thread will pop up, and from there it is very easy to do!!! ;)

Only thing when I get too wrapped up in it, like for instance, if I'm paying too much attention to Ponch, CHIPS being on at 6:00 and my husband comes in from a long day of work and my fat A** is on the couch oblivious to the dinner burning in the kitchen, THAN he gets mad!!!!! :D Just the other day, my broccoli was burning up on the stove! Yea I can relate to what you say, just like I get aroused at certain women that I see on TV. I see many pretty women on TV, and attracted to them. One example is, I drool at the sight of Barbara Eden in her jeannie outfit on I Dream Of Jeannie. What normal, healthy, red blooded male wouldn't drool at the sight of that!

But Alex is awesome! Better than Julie! lol

I like this season because Julie is gone, I never cared for her anyway.

Exactly. Julie was so extremely rebellion and "testing" that she got really grating, really fast. I'm sure that opinion was strengthened from seeing her twice a night 7 nights a week for months in Antenna's first run-through, lol. It was such a breath of fresh air having Alex come into the picture, and see what it would be like for Ann to have a teenage son, Barbara to have a teenage brother, and Schneider to have a surrogate son. :) And Julie Schmulie, NO ONE could break a plant like Alex!!!!!!!! haha

I guess ratings got lower

Yes, Mackenzie says in her book High On Arrival that the ratings got lower that 5th season and that's when they approached her about coming back as a semi-regular.

Alex is way too obnoxious...not a cute, precocious obnoxious, just plain annoying to me! LOL

And to me Alex was great and Julie was the over-obnoxious one, lol.

I wonder if Michael Lembeck was able to file for unemployment? He was out of work a whole year/season because of Mack! It wasn't fair for him, being that he didn't do anything wrong! I hope he filed for unemployment during that time. Glad when they let Mack go YET again down the line, they let Michael/Max stay in the show!

I don't know if he was hurting for money during the time he was absent from the show. I would guess not. But I agree, it wasn't his fault because Mac was messed up. It's good that they kept him on the show after Mac was dismissed again. Seems like it was the fair thing to do.

I thought "Spare the Child" was one of their better eps.

Paddling a child is so stupid anyway and using food utensils to do it with is gross.:(

That aside, the acting was terrific and FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY they brought up the late Nick and his "abandonment" of Alex and the mother from Hell, Felicia, who it turns out never wanted to be a mother. "Now you know why I spent so much time with my Dad.":notworthy

Powerful scene and a great showcase for Glenn and Bonnie.

The scene in the principal's office was funny with Alex hiring a ringer to be paddled.

It was nice to see Ann admit how she let Alex down and made him feel overlooked.

As for the Grandma Got Her Groove Back episode. Did anyone else think it was out of character for her to brag about her sexual conquest? I found that unnecessary but I love Nanette and her song at the end was sweet.

The kid that was in the principles office that Alex hired to take the paddling went on to play one of Michael Seaver's friends on Growing pains!;) I think his name was Eddie on GP?

IKR??? That was so stupid!! Anne finally basically becomes his mother in this episode. He pretty much tells her he wants her to be his mom and she agrees to it though it's unspoken. The writers were really lazy in my opinion. They could have come up with some kind of better excuse for him to be gone. Maybe he went away to school for a year for some reason...but not up and go back to his mom who didn't want him!
In my mind I just refuse to acknowledge that and live in my fantasy world where he is a foreign exchange student or something and then he comes back and they live happily ever after. ;)

Okay, so I watched the "Bringing In The Clowns" episode on Antenna TV on Sunday night. I hadn't seen it since the reruns on E! in the mid-90s and had completely forgotten about this one. I must have repressed it, like one sometimes does with incredibly bad experiences.

This is definitely, in my opinion, the worst episode of the series. Making 22+ shows per season, it's accepted that not all of them are going to be winners, but this one seemed to actively try to be awful.

I know Bonnie complained that they weren't writing enough for her in the 9th season, but I can only imagine she'd be grateful to have no involvement in this particular episode. Although, it might have been redeemable if the ending involved Barbara getting Ann to come over and tell the 2 unfunny idiots off in a one of her tirades that would have them in tears and scrambling for the door to leave. (And maybe if Sam had gotten a chance to know his son's friends, he'd realize that dealing with Schneider isn't so bad by comparison.)

All of that said, the episode wasn't a total loss. Francine's reactions to everything, and her wanting to borrow Barbara's fake cast, were good. Also, Grandma's attempt to watch her movie on that tiny TV set, and her explaining how good the movie is because everyone dies at the end, was funny. Other than that, this was an unfortunate waste of one of the final few episodes.

Max looked hot in this ep and also in the ep. with Father Romano which I never saw before but I liked it!!!

It was funny how Mark was the one who was level headed and didn't believe that guy for a minute, and everyone else fell for it! And than Bring in the clowns, Mark didn't see his friends as fools like the rest did!

Back to bring in the clowns. It did show good dramatic acting for Max and Barbara as they were getting more and more mad by the two guys antics!

They never explained why Marge and Sam broke up, if she was so "needy" I don't think she would have ever given him up or have been so happy for Ann to marry him so soon after their divorce. Strange.

But Ann wanting to somebody take care of her after years of battling it out on her own was surprisingly on target. I could have done without the hitting though. I hate when women hit men on TV shows like its supposed to be "funny".

Should someone start a thread about Mark's revealing grey sweatpants in a recently aired episode (that I am drawing a blank on plot wise at 3 in the morning?) WOW! He was impressive!:happyface

I agree totally. Neither episode yesterday was very good. Maybe tonight's eps will be better. We'll see.

I was paddled regularly in school (and home) at that time.

There are still many schools in the Southern U.S. that paddle.

I was never paddled but I don't agree with it as a rule, it seems humiliating.

Agree! It's terrible! If any teacher had paddled my boys I would have went down to that school and kicked their a** (and I'm not normally a violent person) but nobody hits my kids!

In that ep. Alex brought a permission slip home to be signed letting the parent know the kid was going to be paddled! WTW? Why would any parent sign that sh*t?

Even my parents wouldn't go for that BS! My Siblings and I were school aged in the 60's and 70's , I seriously doubt they would agree to teacher's paddling! I went to Catholic school, and the nuns could get aggressive if a kid acted up, but not to the extent of beating or paddling!

Nothing terrible about it. Unspanked kids are usually brats.

Both of today's episodes stink, also the first one with Francine and Ann in France. Very boring. So is the Auntie Francine episodes.

My favorite episodes are always Julie episodes..

I kind of like "Last time I saw Paris"! That hotel room was cool (I'm big on set design & detail) and the nurse was funny! ;) "Auntie Francine" was a total stinkaroo though! ;) :p

Way too much Alex in that episode. That annoying kid ruins everything.

Both stinky characters. However, I do have to admit that I enjoyed the episode when Alex hated Ann and shouted "I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU" as he was grabbing her before he destroyed her potted plant. That was some funny stuff!
