View Full Version : Has Family Feud become too sexual for family-friendly viewing?

The Steve Harvey-hosted game show has always pushed boundaries, but Harvey recently asked contestants to "name the first part of a woman you touch to get her in the mood.”

icecream 10-04-2015, 05:22 PM Steve Harvey has ruined Family Feud. It's not worth watching with him anymore.
Marvo301 10-04-2015, 05:57 PM I'll stick with my All Star Family Feud DVD's with Richard Dawson as host!
gidgetgrape 10-04-2015, 06:16 PM I've been saying this to my family since it started. :(
Bonniegirl 10-04-2015, 08:06 PM I liked it better when it was a little bit more PG !!!
visaman666 10-04-2015, 09:20 PM I was in the hospital recently for 5 weeks, and I would watch the show, as there was nothing else on TV, but two shows back to back was too much!
tlc38tlc38 10-05-2015, 09:30 AM I'll just stick with "Wheel of Fortune"....a game show that isn't filthy and it never gets old. "FF" has become pathetic.
Marvo301 10-05-2015, 02:14 PM The majority of current TV shows are too sexual for family viewing!!
mets82 10-05-2015, 05:40 PM I guess Family Feud has pushed the envelope but hasnt it always?
The FF ratings are way up, and it had a successful celebrity prime time run this summer, so I don't see it changing anytime soon.
icecream 10-06-2015, 09:52 PM I guess Family Feud has pushed the envelope but hasnt it always? They may have had an occasional question but until Steve Harvey ruined it Family Feud was a family friendly show.
icecream 10-06-2015, 09:55 PM The FF ratings are way up, and it had a successful celebrity prime time run this summer, so I don't see it changing anytime soon.Ratings don't equal quality. Jerry Springer and Maury are trash talk shows that have been popular a long time. That doesn't make them worth watching.
mets82 10-07-2015, 03:24 PM I'd rather take FF over Springer or Maury any day of the week. I'm surprised both those shows are still on.
Ratings don't equal quality.
I wasn't claiming that. I was just saying FF is currently doing well and not likely to change in the near future.
SitcomsOffline 10-08-2015, 07:25 PM To be fair, it is the producers who request that the writers come up with these overtly sexual questions, not Steve Harvey. In fact, purely from emcee-ing stand point, Steve Harvey is probably the best host Family Feud has had since Ray Combs.
But I wouldn't expect anything different from Fremantle Media (given their "track record"). I'm sure Mark Goodson is rolling over in his grave to see what they've done to his game shows.

Once every blue moon, you'd get a risque question on the Dawson or Combs Family Feud where an individual would slip up.
However, a typical question during the the Dawson/Combs era was more like "Name a building that has an American Flag," whereas a typical question during the Harvey era is more like "Name a part of the body on women that men find attractive," which begs for sexual replies.
mets82 10-09-2015, 03:39 PM So maybe the Dawson era didnt push the envelope but what was with him kissing all the women? That, to me, was disgusting.
Willbo 10-12-2015, 08:18 AM I agree that the questions are to sexual. It is getting to the Jerry Springer level.
Edward216 10-15-2015, 03:03 AM Yes it is too sexual, it's become absolute smut. And it's disgusting.
Ed.
Coffeecup 10-16-2015, 10:16 PM Yeah I noticed the questions are sexy, obnoxious, and down right foolish.
The writers must be awful hard up to find questions for the surveys. I am surprised the show is still on the air. Some shows just go on and on. Jeopardy is my favorite.
WatcherofOldTV 10-23-2015, 04:37 PM Richard would not be proud.
He may have kissed the ladies, but he wasn't smutty.
And the stage is too wide. Needs to be smaller like it was in the 70's. Makes it much more intimate.
Harvey was good in the beginning, but he's lost his touch and he's not warm enough. His humor and energy is great but he's not warm to the general public.
mets82 10-23-2015, 05:02 PM I think Harvey is the best out of the bunch. Richard Karn and John O' Hurley, while good, seem very reserved, very quiet types. But to each his own.
Dude111 10-24-2015, 12:13 AM Steve Harvey has ruined Family Feud. It's not worth watching with him anymore.Family feud has become a piece of garbage like everything else now!!
They ruined that wonderful set and now you can see the audience??
A PIECE OF UTTER GARBAGE...... I HAVENT WATCHED IT IN YEARS SINCE RICHARD LEFT......
loaferman 10-29-2015, 12:14 PM It is just the nature of the times we live in unfortunately. They think between having Steve Harvey and those questions that it is more comedy within a game show than anything else.
Have you noticed how many of the bonus round questions only have about 2 or 3 possible answers? They want winners and laughs. From the ratings it must be working. The show has killed GSN for me. Way too much FF on there.
mets82 10-29-2015, 03:22 PM I like FF but its on way too often.
loaferman 10-30-2015, 02:53 PM I like FF but its on way too often.
I used to like it but now it just annoys me. Oh for the times when you saw 1 episode a day.
mets82 10-30-2015, 03:18 PM Agreed. And when Marathons of shows were only on holidays!!
Bonniegirl 10-30-2015, 06:45 PM Yeah I didn't realize it before but the set used to be smaller and cozier!!! My favorite host was Richard, I also liked John O'Hurley and Louie Anderson
mets82 11-19-2015, 04:45 PM I like Harvey the best. Here's the thing. I dont mind the show. My mom doesnt mind it. But I think they're a lot of adults and grandparents who dont like it.
gidgetgrape 11-19-2015, 05:00 PM I wish they had 2 shows. One during the day that was family-friendly and one at night that people who like a more risqué version could watch.
My favorite host was Ray Combs (RIP). I think Steve Harvey is okay, but I don't like the raunchiness. I saw an episode a couple weeks ago and one of the answers was "crotchless."
loaferman 11-19-2015, 05:27 PM I like Harvey the best. Here's the thing. I dont mind the show. My mom doesnt mind it. But I think they're a lot of adults and grandparents who dont like it.
If it isn't the show itself the ads are just as bad with KY products and couples talking about what they do, ED pill ads, and ads for feminine conditions I won't go into (it is a "dry" subject).
loaferman 11-19-2015, 05:31 PM The questions have been dumbed down with sexual innuendo but also made almost too easy with "name a room in the house" or "name a color" that only has maybe 3 possible answers. I saw one question that the players combined got like 80 points off that one question.
I also hate sudden death where a family answers 20 times and leads like 295 to 0 and the family with zero wins on a fast buzz in for a question a zombie could answer.
ComedyGuy 12-31-2015, 01:54 AM I was told that Steve Harvey has in his contract that there has to be at least 1 African American family on each show, not sure how true this is but it seems like there is 1 on each show. . . . . . .

That wouldn't surprise me.
Hawkee 09-09-2016, 02:14 AM Why I think Family Feud changed it's image was because when Steve Harvey made his debut as host of the show Family Feud wanted to get a more bigger audience and with Steve Harvey as host they wanted to bring a comedic style to the show. If you ever seen Steve Harvey's comedy shows you might've noticed that they have a lot of appeal to adults and so when Steve Harvey was chosen to host Family Feud they brought some of the comedic style that Steve Harvey has. But I do think Family Feud could use improvements such as having family friendly surveys and a family friendly appeal. And that should make Family Feud get bigger ratings in TV
