POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!
This movie was released today in the theaters, and seeing the trailers for it, i just had to be there on opening day. And 1 reason is I have always been fascinated with anything to do with the Red Planet.....Mars.
First off let me say that this review reflects my opinions and may not concur with others.
Matt Damon plays Mark Watney. An astronaut/botanist with NASA who, while studying the martian surface with his crew mates, gets stranded on Mars in the midst of a severe martian storm and is thought the be dead. His crew mates on their way back to Earth, know nothing of his survival, and neither does NASA, who legally pronounces him to be dead.
Mark must use his experience and ingenuity, along with all the equipment left behind, to figure out a way to survive until the next Mars mission, that is years away, or try to find a way to contact NASA to let them know he survived and possibly send someone to retrieve him.
Personally I give this movie 9 out of 10, meaning I still consider it a great movie. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because they didn't take into account some of the calculations concerning Mars slower orbit around the sun than earth, and I felt they should have researched this better.
Matt Damon was amazing as always. His acting was right on the money. Also this movie has..........SPOILER ALERT!!! DISCO. Lotsa disco, and you might not like Mark Watney's opinion of it.
This movie is funny, dramatic heart wrenching and throw in a little suspense, then you have a great mix. It was so well acted by all the other players as well. But it's sort of a Robinson Crusoe on Mars kinda idea, without the Man Friday.
