View Full Version : Cancellations of the 2015-2016 Network TV Season
HauntedThunderman94 09-27-2015, 02:52 AM The official sitcomsOnline Thread about the Cancellations and Endings of the 2015-2016 Network TV Season. Early predictions can be based on which shows will be permanently gone from new episodes after this season, which new series premiered to mediocre (or abysmal) ratings, and which new shows anyone here can't possibly imagine doing well.
My Picks for first cancellations
1. The Player
2. Life in Pieces
3. Truth Be Told
4. Blood & Oil
5. Dr. Ken
James28 09-27-2015, 06:10 PM Last season, we had to wait until after CBS finished its Thursday Night Football telecasts for the first cancellation of the new season to be announced. This season, can the first cancellation of the new season be announced before CBS finishes its Thursday Night Football telecasts?
If I had to make a pick for the first cancellation of the Fall 2015 season, it would be Minority Report on FoxBC. Its premiere rating (1.1 in the 18-49 demographic with a total audience of 4 million) made it a failure right out of the gate.
Also, how is it possible that Life in Pieces becomes one of the first cancellations of the fall season when it premiered to a 2.7 demo rating and 11 million viewers?
Mace Dolex 09-27-2015, 06:16 PM The pilot for Sream Queens was a tad slow paced and did so-so ratings but because FOX seems to have a hard-on for Ryan Murphy I see it lasting at least it's first season.
Tubehead 09-27-2015, 09:05 PM i actually liked the player it kind of reminds me of person of interest meets hawaii five o!! i hadn't seen dr Ken ,but i think i will like it!! if you hadn't seen furry vengeance, i highly recommend it !! it was good clean family movie!!
robyrob 09-27-2015, 09:59 PM there are so many terrible new shows this season - its too hard to pick just one to get cancelled first!
1. Life in Pieces - regardless of how the premiere ratings were that show is just an overcomplicated confusing mess and if nobody tunes in for the second ep i don't think CBS will keep it for too long
2. Truth Be Told - this show just seems amazingly stupid
3. The Player / Minority Report - two shows that just should not have been made.
4. Blood & Oil - this one just seems so dumb I can't believe FOX actually picked it up, but they seem to be trying to sell it as a sexier hotter version of Dallas somehow
5. Dr. Ken - the critics hate it, I liked the preview and think Ken Jeong is pretty funny, so of course it will get cancelled
icecream 09-29-2015, 01:03 AM 3. The Player / Minority Report - two shows that just should not have been made. I liked the Minority Report pilot, there are plenty of current shows that are worse. I haven't seen tonight's episode yet though.
tlc38tlc38 09-29-2015, 09:50 AM I suspect that "The Muppets" will only last 1 season (if that). I just don't see it going very long.
MrCleveland 09-29-2015, 02:27 PM I suspect that "The Muppets" will only last 1 season (if that). I just don't see it going very long.
Especially if they don't appeal to children...even though The Muppet Show was aimed toward adults since they watched Sesame Street and actually enjoyed it!
The shows today are either aimed toward children...or adults...no in-between!
But yeah...The Muppets may not last long....
TVSCREEN2015 09-29-2015, 05:38 PM Life in Pieces - This show is dead. I couldn't make it through 10 minutes of last nights episode. It's awful.
Minority Report - This show sucks and the ratings are bad.
The Player -This show is DOA and definitely a goner. I think this will be the first cancellation of the season.
Dr. Ken - The reviews are terrible and previews look bad. Another one season wonder after Last Man Standing just like Cristela and Malibu Country.
icecream 09-29-2015, 06:33 PM Also, how is it possible that Life in Pieces becomes one of the first cancellations of the fall season when it premiered to a 2.7 demo rating and 11 million viewers?Life in Pieces lost nearly a whole point in its 2nd episode down to 1.9 and lost exactly half of The Big Bang Theory audience with no other competition starting at 8:30. And it might not be finished dropping yet. I don't like how it hurt Scorpion and CBS probably doesn't either.
James28 09-29-2015, 07:37 PM I don't like how it hurt Scorpion...
Last night's episode of Scorpion got a 1.7 demo rating (with 9.5 million), which is less than Life in Pieces's demo rating, but LiP's viewership was less than Scorpion's (8.7 million).
The last comedy that hurt Scorpion, The Millers, averaged a 1.7 demo rating with 7.28 million viewers by the time it got pulled from the CBS schedule in November 2014, while Scorpion's episodes which aired after Millers were in the lower 2s with 10 million viewers (and continued to pull those numbers for the remainder of its first season).
IMO, I don't think Life in Pieces will get past midseason. Single-camera sitcoms do not have a good track record on CBS. The Crazy Ones (from the 2013-14 season) had a big premiere (3.9 demo, 15 million), but the ratings dropped off after that, with its season finale having just over 5 million viewers, and it ended up a one-season wonder.
Yong Fang 09-29-2015, 08:09 PM The Muppet Show is the one show I look forward to every week. Watching it now. I like it. Since I do, it is probably doomed, so probably next year when I start the annual thread "What show was cancelled after one season you really liked?"
MrCleveland 09-30-2015, 07:33 AM IMO, I don't think Life in Pieces will get past midseason. Single-camera sitcoms do not have a good track record on CBS. What made matters worse for TCO being cancelled was that it probably let Robin Williams down causing us to lose him. ohno:ohno:ohno:
icecream 10-02-2015, 05:09 PM The 1st official cancellation is a summer show: Chasing Life on ABCFamily is done after 2 seasons.
IllinoisTVFan 10-05-2015, 03:24 PM I don't think the Muppets will be cancelled. Yes it is more adult orientated but people forget it originally was adult orientated. After all they were on Saturday Night Live, hardly a kids show by any standard. I don't think Minority Report and Blood and Oil will last a season. Probably not Dr Ken either if he ratings aren't good because ABC is doing well so they aren't going to keep any shows with mediocre ratings.

My top 5 picks are almost exactly like yours except I would replace #3 with "Scream Queens".
TVSCREEN2015 10-05-2015, 07:43 PM My top 5 picks are almost exactly like yours except I would replace #3 with "Scream Queens".
Scream Queens is awful garbage. It's unfunny, unlikable characters, obnoxious cast (Emma Roberts, Ariana Grande, Keke Palmer), terrible acting, racist. That show is trash!
Patty Duke 10-05-2015, 11:59 PM there are so many terrible new shows this season - its too hard to pick just one to get cancelled first!
I agree! I always try new shows to give them a chance and so far everything is worthless in my opinion. The only show I continue to watch is Blue Bloods. I really miss sitcoms but I have come to accept the days of great shows are gone. :(
Yong Fang 10-06-2015, 09:40 PM Life in Pieces is AWFUL! I thought it was going to be a Modern Family ripoff, amd it is....I dont know what the hell it is. Flipped it back to reruns of Parks and Recreation reruns, even if it were the latter pretentious years.
Dr. Ken is a lame family sitcom and does not play up to Ken Jeong at all. Not all shows with a featured player has to be a family/occupation show. That has been totally done to death. Also, Jeong is more of a side player, comedy relief, nemesis like person. My wife is Asian (Chinese) and I like on the one hand that this show and Fresh Off the Boat are featuring Asian Americans, but both suck in my opinion....BUT again, more East Asians on TV please, it is an under represented and very stereotypes demographic.
The Muppets is OK, sort of weird to make this into a sitcom, nd it kind of works. Kermit isnt bery happy or joyous in this show though....like I said, it is OK. Guest star tonight was Nick Offerman....networks...give Offerman a show! Wont happen, but a Ron Swanson series would be awesome.
Looking forward to the second season of Fargo....and when will Better Call Saul coming back on? Again, and I really hate to say this, but most of first run TV is lame.....guess, what I am watching tonight....40 year old Sanford and Son reruns and it is the best thing on TV tonight. Just saying.

yankeesrj12 10-08-2015, 10:52 AM I'm actually really enjoying Life in Pieces. I think the cast works well together and the show is pretty funny. I definitely think it would be better suited on ABC or FOX, as it fits their comedy styles a bit more. Life in Pieces probably won't make it much longer, but I'll be tuning in for any episodes CBS airs!
HauntedThunderman94 10-09-2015, 03:45 PM Extant Canceled by CBS After 2 Seasons

irehtman 10-10-2015, 07:59 AM Cancel Minority Report, it is a bad spin-off from movie!
James28 10-11-2015, 04:39 PM ^Minority Report's episode order was reduced from 13 to 10 episodes last Friday, meaning that it has moved a bit closer to being cancelled.

robyrob 10-11-2015, 08:10 PM i'm thinking that FOX moving the Grinder to 7pm on Sunday nights is not a good sign for it
JMas493 10-11-2015, 10:35 PM i'm thinking that FOX moving the Grinder to 7pm on Sunday nights is not a good sign for it
I think Sunday night is a repeat and original episodes are still airing on Tuesday night.
James28 10-14-2015, 02:17 AM The 2012 version of Beauty and the Beast on The CW to end after its fourth season, to air this summer.

OK - I saw it on the guide listed as "NEW" and immediately thought "uh-oh" for them :)
OK - I saw it on the guide listed as "NEW" and immediately thought "uh-oh" for them :)
That's how my guide works too. NEW means new for the week, not just the day.
James28 10-14-2015, 08:09 PM Another cancellation from The CW: America's Next Top Model. The CW has announced that ANTM is cancelled after its current 22nd cycle, to finish December 4.
http://tvline.com/2015/10/14/americas-next-top-model-cancelled-the-cw/
icecream 10-16-2015, 07:42 PM Rookie Blue is cancelled after 6 seasons.
James28 10-22-2015, 09:11 PM If I had to predict which veteran scripted series are to end their original runs after 2015-16 season, they would be:
The Good Wife
Castle
Nashville
The Middle
Hawaii Five-0 and/or Blue Bloods
The Vampire Diaries
HauntedThunderman94 10-23-2015, 12:33 AM The Whispers Cancelled at ABC

James28 12-13-2015, 02:55 PM Mike & Molly is cancelled after its upcoming 13-episode sixth season on CBS. :(
http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/mike-and-molly-canceled-by-cbs-no-season-seven/
James28 01-13-2016, 05:46 PM Heroes Reborn will not get a second installment, and will stay a miniseries.
http://deadline.com/2016/01/heroes-canceled-no-second-season-1201682054/
If I had to predict which veteran scripted series are to end their original runs after 2015-16 season, they would be:
The Good Wife
Castle
Nashville
The Middle
Hawaii Five-0 and/or Blue Bloods
The Vampire Diaries
I would go with Two Broke Girls. I don't see it lasting for another season after this one.
James28 02-07-2016, 10:37 PM The Good Wife will have its original run end in May after this season, its 7th. It was confirmed by a promo which aired during the CBS network's telecast of Super Bowl 50.
More details: http://tvline.com/2016/02/07/the-good-wife-cancelled-season-7-cbs-super-bowl/
Cyrax 02-08-2016, 03:52 AM ^Good news, love the show but it became really stale and they ran out of plotlines.
MikeLutton 02-08-2016, 05:21 AM do u think ncis la would be cancelled this season as well kind of ran its course
James28 02-09-2016, 01:25 AM Angel from Hell is FIRED by CBS after just five episodes.

Haha I saw this one coming 10 miles away.
icecream 02-09-2016, 05:44 PM do u think ncis la would be cancelled this season as well kind of ran its courseI doubt it. NCIS: LA could move to Fridays or Sundays but still does well enough to keep airing, plus makes money from syndication. There are already 2 veteran dramas ending this year with The Good Wife and Person of Interest.
James28 03-08-2016, 08:53 PM Looks like You, Me and the Apocalypse is going to be a one-season-and-done series. The series, a co-production of Sky in the UK and NBC in the US. airs its last episode on March 31, 2016.

Yong Fang 03-09-2016, 02:42 AM http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/11/13/wicked-city-canceled-after-3-episodes/
I feel for the young actors who are looking for that "big break" and be on a long term television program on a major network, and then getting on that network and getting axed in three episodes.
How many television shows are pitched to networks? I hear it is a long process of "pilot shows" and whatnot, there is a small chance that one show will make it to the pilot stage and then most of the new shows are cancelled the first year anyway.
This might sound weird, but TV dramas need to have more "regular folks" rather than early 20's model types with perfect body, hair and everything else.
http://nypost.com/2016/03/10/days-may-be-numbered-for-these-tv-bubble-shows/
With the formal end of the TV season about two months away, networks have begun solidifying their schedules for the fall: ABC last week issued renewals for 15 of its shows (including “Quantico,” “Fresh Off the Boat” and “Grey’s Anatomy”) and CBS on Tuesday indicated it would likely bring back all of its freshman series (good news for “Limitless” and “Supergirl”).
For others that have either run their course or failed to impress, judgment day is nearing. We weigh the pros and cons of those remaining “bubble shows,” as they are known, coming back for another season.
icecream 03-13-2016, 03:24 PM Switched at Birth is ending after its upcoming 5th season.
Mace Dolex 03-13-2016, 05:59 PM I don't know how CBS's Life In Pieces hasn't gotten the axe and scheduled behind TBBT is what's saving it probably.
king of comedy 03-13-2016, 06:40 PM Cancel Minority Report, it is a bad spin-off from movie!
I only saw 5 minutes of it and turned it off.
James28 03-13-2016, 07:07 PM I don't know how CBS's Life In Pieces hasn't gotten the axe and scheduled behind TBBT is what's saving it probably.
Reviews for Life in Pieces have been fairly positive, with its approval rating at over 60% on both Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes, and it's also the second-highest-rated and second-most-watched comedy series on CBS behind TBBT. It's probably doing to get renewed for 2016-17.
Besides, I thought LiP has a unique premise for a family comedy. Each of LiP's episodes are told as four short stories, one for each branch of the Short family, with some connections related to the characters' events.
James28 03-16-2016, 06:12 PM Person of Interest is officially FIRED by CBS. The series will end after its upcoming 13-episode fifth season, to air between May 3 and June 21.
http://deadline.com/2016/03/person-of-interest-canceled-5-seasons-cbs-1201721683/
James28 05-01-2016, 10:45 AM I also think Castle on ABC Network is in danger of cancellation after its current eighth season.
Even though Castle was not among the network's early renewals for next season, it was believed, and hoped, that Castle may be renewed for an abbreviated and final 9th season. Then the news broke on April 18 that Stana Katic, who pays Kate Beckett, was going to depart the series after the eighth season. This prompted the show's fanbase to start calling for the show's cancellation. It doesn't help that Castle's ratings have fallen around 30% from the previous season. Kate Beckett is such an integral part of the show (despite not being its title character), and it is feared that Ms. Katic's departure will destroy Castle, even if it runs for only one more season. Now anyone wanting Castle to run for that one more season is in the minority, so I think the series may end its run on a cliffhanger. If that happens, then we may be seeing a repeat of the network's cancellation of Brothers & Sisters five years ago.

But considering ABC didn't ask Stana Katic back but are in contract negotiations with Nathan Fillion they want it to continue without her. If he re-signs Castle is coming back with ABC wanting to make more from syndication. It's a poor decision, lots of fans do want it to end but ABC has the final word. I'm disgusted with Nathan, he fought for Ryan and Esposito's contracts to be renewed in previous years but doesn't care about Beckett. It's probably because of him that she was fired, the actors didn't get along and when he re-signed last year stipulated he would only work two days a week with her.
piotrowicz 05-04-2016, 01:43 AM what happen tv in australia

James28 05-18-2016, 07:01 PM Network TV Spring Cleaning 2016
ABC
Castle has cleaned out its desk after eight seasons. And the four-season-old Nashville has been sacked as well. Also pink-slipped by the network are The Family, Agent Carter, The Muppets, and Galavant.
CBS
Supergirl, Limitless, Rush Hour, and CSI: Cyber are out of the CBS roster. It should be noted, however, that Supergirl is moving to The CW for season 2.
The CW
Containment is the CW's only cancellation this season, aside from the 2012 version of Beauty and the Beast and America's Next Top Model.
FOX-TV
Both of the FOX sitcoms brought to you by the getter "G", Grandfathered and The Grinder, have been fired by that network. Also dead are Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life, Bordertown, and Second Chance.
NBC
The Peacock Network has fired The Mysteries of Laura, Crowded, Telenovela, Game of Silence, Heartbeat, and Undateable.
icecream 07-06-2016, 05:13 PM Uncle Buck is cancelled a day after the finale aired.
James28 09-28-2016, 02:09 AM American Idol on Fox-TV ended after its 15th season last spring.
