Venerable crime drama franchise "Law & Order" is getting a reality spinoff. And in line with NBC’s push into live entertainment, theseries will be live as well as interactive.
The network has given the green light to "Law & Order: You The Jury", a one-hour courtroom docu-drama series from "Law & Order" boss Dick Wolf and reality producer Magical Elves.
NBC originally bought the project — sans the live part — in early May as "You The Jury". It has now been given the "Law & Order" branding, a first for an unscripted series.
"Law & Order: You The Jury" puts the power of the law directly into viewers’ hands with real life legal cases. The audience serves as the jury and will not only determine the verdict, but will also be able to vote throughout the trial on the veracity of witnesses and persuasiveness of evidence.
Wolf, Magical Elves’ Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz and Wolf Reality’s Tom Thayer executive produce.
Wolf and NBC previously teamed for the 2002 docu-reality series "Crime & Punishment", which was an unofficial spin-off from the "Law & Order" franchise.
