She was really the one who kept everyone in line.
Lester was played by a terrific actor who never got the stories he should have gotten. He was more in a supporting role, which I've always regretted. They could have done much more with him and possibly expanded the show more greatly, even into a another season or two. It really died in the last season and 227 was probably one of the most iconic shows of the 1980's.
