Yes, I agree. Sometimes you need continuity. Producers and writers need to understand you can't play with viewer's intelligence. While I am all for change, some things just need to stay the same. Like keeping the ladies in the house like you mentioned. That's more realistic than them owning a hotel all of a sudden. And since it was on a new network, at least redecorate the home as to give it a modern feel. It probably would have lasted an additional two more seasons.

And since Don Cheadle was a new addition, he could have been a new neighbor or something!

"The Golden Palace" did have its moments but I honestly don't think it should've ever happened.

No sorry I don't agree. I think by the end of Golden Girls they'd done pretty everything they could with all of the characters and that should've been that. They never should've tried to put any of them in a spinoff. I was ready to move on from them by then. Just my opinion.

Not an opinion shared by most watchers of the day.
When it was announced that Golden Palace would be aired, most (if not all) Golden Girls fans whom I knew, were ecstatic!
It meant MORE Golden Girls...in the lobby...needed it in the house but revamped to soften the blow of losing Dorothy. This was not a show about a hotel. It was homey an meant to be relaxed in the house with all the shenanigans that happen there. Not in a snooty old dump...and really...how could an 88 year old woman work in a hotel?

I liked the show even though it got canceled.

I actually like it but I guess I was the only one, since it didn't make it.

I liked The Golden Palace. Thought they cancelled it too early. 3,900 posts!!:)

I loved the show. It kept me laughing. I think it should have been renewed for a second season. People complain about the show but any show that can keep me laughing hysterically gets an "A" in my book. The Golden Palace did just that.

Does anybody else believe that a deal with NBC might have been a greater incentive to make Golden Palace a better show to ensure it got renewed past the first 13 shows? Instead, they made the deal with CBS, got the full season guarantee, and decided to make it the "let's do everything we couldn't do when Dorothy was around" show.

Audiences were accustomed to the four women. You just can't mess with chemistry. It was sort of like The Andy Griffith Show after Don Knotts left. The show changed 1,000% and not for the better.

I actually liked the show more than I ever did Golden Girls. I was never big into Dorothy to begin with. After her departure I was able to really enjoy it. Also I really liked the supporting cast of Cheech Marin and Don Cheadle.

Besides that, Frances Bavier was EXTREMELY difficult to work with! She was nasty to just about everyone on The Andy Griffith Show, especially Andy. :mad:

The Golden Girls actresses were basically a four woman comedy team but Bea Arthur was the most important player of the group. She was just the center. Estelle Getty was fantastic, but she needed Bea Arthur to play off of for the show to work.

So not Bea, no show. Since she again was the most important part.
