End credit crunching. The odd way they go to commercials. The somewhat edited(?) way they show there shows. Also, IMO, not as strong a lineup as ME-TV. What do you guys think? Or is it me being paranoid?

View Full Version : Has Antenna TV Peaked? mets82 09-08-2015, 04:40 PM End credit crunching. The odd way they go to commercials. The somewhat edited(?) way they show there shows. Also, IMO, not as strong a lineup as ME-TV. What do you guys think? Or is it me being paranoid? opus 09-08-2015, 05:04 PM I wouldn't go that far (I find their lineup way better than ME), but let's say they have a lot riding on Johnny come January. BigManMike 09-08-2015, 05:15 PM They do have a better lineup than MeTV but the end credit crunching and odd places they show commercial breaks ruin it for me. bgva 09-08-2015, 07:59 PM Their commercials are pretty cheesy too, compared to the other retro networks. The lineup itself is solid, and they continue to get shows that haven't aired in several years. If they could fix the odd edits (not just syndication cuts, but the way they go to commercials) and the credit crunching, they'd be fine. Then again, MeTV speeds up the theme songs from time to time, so I guess nobody's perfect. mets82 09-09-2015, 03:29 PM I credit ME-TV on one thing. Happy Days. I've actually watched the show on ME-TV and they show scenes that I've never seen before. Not on Nick at Nite, TVLand or wherever Happy Days used to be on. Rewinder 09-09-2015, 04:46 PM ME-TV air's the full version of the Cheer's theme song and not the syndicated version BigManMike 09-09-2015, 05:05 PM Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley are probably the only shows I watch on MeTV and I only watch them when I have time. At least MeTV doesn't crunch credits although I don't like the way the closed captions are scrolling up and always behind what is being spoken like with a live newscast or sports. What do you guys think? Or is it me being paranoid? Every TV channel eventually peaks and then begins its low painful descent into the crapper. EDIT: Perhaps the only exception to this is Turner Classic Movies (TMC). tlc38tlc38 09-09-2015, 10:41 PM As someone who can't get this channel...don't take it for granite. I wish I could get a channel that airs "Green Acres", "Small Wonder", "Newhart", "Mr. Belvedere", "One Day a Time", "Too Close for Comfort", and "Evening Shade". BigManMike 09-09-2015, 10:46 PM I hate that they're now showing Johnny Carson ads during closing credits on other shows that aren't split screen. They show plenty of other Carson ads during regular commercial time. I don't know why they have to promote it so much and it's still 4 months away. I sure hope I don't have to deal with this all the way until January. Acquiring was a big mistake for Antenna TV. At the expense of the closing credits, it was not worth it. I wish I could get a channel that airs "Green Acres", "Small Wonder", "Newhart", "Mr. Belvedere", "One Day a Time", "Too Close for Comfort", and "Evening Shade". I boycott those now because they squeeze the credits on those. Luckily, I watched lots of Too Close for Comfort back in 2011 and 2012 when Antenna TV used to be a good channel and didn't squeeze credits then. OH Nuts! 09-09-2015, 11:59 PM As someone who can't get this channel...don't take it for granite. I wish I could get a channel that airs "Green Acres", "Small Wonder", "Newhart", "Mr. Belvedere", "One Day a Time", "Too Close for Comfort", and "Evening Shade". Exactly! For a FREE channel it's still pretty darn awesome. Is it perfect? No, but then what is. I've seen many shows I thought would never see the light of day. You won't hear ANY complaints about Antenna from me! retrofan05 09-10-2015, 12:47 PM As someone who can't get this channel...don't take it for granite. I wish I could get a channel that airs "Green Acres", "Small Wonder", "Newhart", "Mr. Belvedere", "One Day a Time", "Too Close for Comfort", and "Evening Shade". I agree! I checked out the schedule and would absolutely love to have this channel! It reminds me of what TV Land used to be. BigManMike 09-10-2015, 03:29 PM It's turning into TV Land. icecream 09-10-2015, 09:57 PM I don't like the credit crunching but Antenna TV has not peaked. There lineup is still better than other networks and they have plenty of variety. 1960'sTVfan 09-11-2015, 09:08 AM Like all these other retro TV stations, Antenna TV is bad because the shows they air are heavily edited, due to the insane number of commercials they have. It is ridiculous. And another thing, Antenna TV is an offshoot of WGN in Chicago. Back in the 1990's after Johnny Carson left the Tonight Show, WGN aired Tonight Show highlights, I believe they called it The Best Of Carson. So, Antenna TV airing Carson's Tonight Show isn't such a big deal, it's been done before. The difference is, Antenna TV seems to be advertising their airings as complete shows instead of highlights. It remains to be seen just how complete they will be. I imagine they'll be hacked to pieces and littered with commercials, just like all their other shows are. The credit crunching nonsense is terrible also. mets82 09-11-2015, 04:12 PM Its not that I dont like Antenna TV. I really do. They show shows that I havent seen in ages. Its just with there end credit crunching and stuff how long before it becomes like all the others? I hope that doesnt happen but you have to wonder. Btw, is it me or are the credit crunches getting shorter? I noticed the credits very quickly plug the next show. Have you guys noticed that? Rewinder 09-11-2015, 04:35 PM Encore western's airs everything uncut nothing edited and no commercials doing the western series bgva 09-11-2015, 05:07 PM Antenna TV is more like TV Land in the early-2000s. That's when they started the (partial) credit crunching, but still had a pretty decent lineup. I don't like the crunches, but I at least enjoy the programming. If the crunching were just a quick :10 promo like on The Jeffersons, I could live with that. It's the squeezing to fit in the intro of the next program that annoys me. Thing is, WGN sometimes pushes back the credits to tell you what show is coming up next, but it's no audio, so you still hear the closing theme song. Wouldn't mind ATV would do something like that. opus 09-11-2015, 05:13 PM I don't like the crunches, but I at least enjoy the programming. If the crunching were just a quick :10 promo like on The Jeffersons, I could live with that. It's the squeezing to fit in the intro of the next program that annoys me. That part I agree with. For example, seeing the One Day at a Time credits roll to the Three's Company theme song just doesn't work. mets82 09-11-2015, 05:21 PM Antenna TV is more like TV Land in the early-2000s. That I could agree with. Or what bgva said about it being a quick 10 second promo. That would be fine too. BigManMike 09-11-2015, 06:10 PM I can live with the 10 second promo. What bothers me about it is they mute the theme music to give full attention to the ad. I hate that because I want to hear the music. I don't know who's stupid idea it was to do that. I can tell someone new is definitely in charge. Decades sometimes squeezes to advertise what is up next but at least they don't mute the music. I have a feeling I'll stop watching Antenna TV once Family Ties finishes its first cycle. They are becoming TV Land 2.0. And during one of the promos during the closing of the Jeffersons last night, stupid announcer still said TV how it was meant to be which is a huge lie. I just hope Decades and Me don't get to be like this. Antenna went back on their word because they originally said they wouldn't squeeze the credits. And this thing about viewers wanting a quicker transition is just BS. This is how TV Land started go downhill when they starting crunching credits and gradually started adding in more commercials in 2005. They still had decent programming then but before you know it they were adding stupid shows and paid programming and showing programs off the clock. I wouldn't be surprised if all that happens to Antenna TV by 2020. Mr. Television 09-11-2015, 07:19 PM I can live with the 10 second promo. I wouldn't be surprised if all that happens to Antenna TV by 2020. It seems like every channel JTS eventually. It's sad. 1960'sTVfan 09-11-2015, 08:15 PM It seems like every channel JTS eventually. It's sad. That's why I have a DVD collection of favorite TV shows. DVD's aren't always perfect either, studios sometimes alter or edit episodes, usually because of that legal nonsense about music rights. Fortunately, most of the shows I have on DVD seem to have the uncut episodes. One show that is problematic is Gomer Pyle, CBS hacked several episodes due to music, it's insane. The only show I watch these days on Antenna TV is One Day At A Time. I estimate they hack about five minutes from each episode, so they can show more commercials. It is so bad, sometimes I have seen the same commercial two or three times during an episode. One Day At A Time first season is the only one currently on DVD. So right now, the only way to see the other seasons is the edited garbage on Antenna TV. Coffeecup 10-22-2017, 11:07 AM I lost my 24 hour version of Antenna and now get a 12 hour version that is just not as good. I get Hazel at noon to the Johnny Carson at 10pm but no explanation of the episode plot. 12 midnight to 12 noon are informercials. As to has the station lost it zip, well it lost a viewer. |
