Can anyone share some observations, silly or not. Such as:

Cliff's always wearing floods and goofy white socks.
Carla wears an apron with the Red Sox logo on it.
Sam drinks his coffee out of a brown mug.
When Norm enters and gets his customary greeting of NORM!, Diane follows it with a soft, Norman.
Norman usually has a wooden bowl of snacks in front of him.
Diane always wears a dress or a skirt--seldom pants, if ever. ?
Sam wears great cotton, button down shirts, often in plaid or check prints.
For the most part, Frasier sits across from Norm and Cliff at the bar, even when there's a seat closer them.
It's almost impossible to insult Woody. He doesn't get sarcasm.
That's it for now.....

no matter how many drinks the man gets, norms never drunk.

if the episode isnt pertaining to melvilles, no one ever uses the stairs

theres this old guy that sits behind the bar that was around for a long time since the diane ones.. and any comment someone makes he says something to make it dirty (he once tried to take dianes suitcase...)

at the beginning of the seasons, sam used to wear 3 colors of a same nike shirt over and over again, with always a white collar.

woody always adresses people as ms. or mr. (mr. peterson, mr. clavin, ms. howe,) exept for sam and carla

7 out of the 11 seasons, carla was pregnant with a child! lol

thats all i can think of right now too!

Inevitably whenever Sam is out on a date he will run into one
of his former flam

Sam never talks about his background other than his baseball
days(at one point he claims to have a brother, but it could be
he was just making it up)

Carla loves to insult in no order:Cliff,Diane,Woodie and Rebecca.

Diane's family is comaparitively well off but she still chooses to
work in a bar.

Norm always brings a can of beer wirth him,no matter the
occasion.

We never really get to see what Vera looks like.

The bar only have won one contest in their many years of
rivalry with Gary's Old Towne Tavern.

Norm's second favorite hang out is the Hungry Heifer.

coach wears the exact same shirt all the time day and night as i can see, maybe sam should give him a raise,no offence coach

carla is always hard on cliff more then the others

norm usually only chats somehow with cliff as far as i can see

someone made this obsevation before but i still would like to add it that when they ask for the day off for what ever reason they always leave in a hurry and don,t do all the afterwork that they need to do

the first season takes place all time inside the bar

cliff is the only character i can recall who does not ever get to be alone in the bar or get it to himself, sad somehow, poor cliff

diane seems to have very nice clothes even though she is supposedly poor and i still belive she was supporting herself even though she came from a very well to do family

the only things they watch on tv are sports, talk shows, sports sports sports, but then again hey it is a sports bar i belive

we never see the back room supposelly serpart from the pool room

sam entered the room in the very beinging of the series and came out that way

sam wears alot of nike shirts

whatever the conversation topic sams having with a girl, he'll hit on her.

sammyanddiane.. yep, cheers opens with sam coming from the dark pool room, and in the series finale, ends with him going into the pool room.

rebecca howe likes those shoulder pads!

garys old town tavern ALWAYS beats cheers, except for that bowling episode with diane!

Sam's little black book must be his bible.. lol

(at one point he claims to have a brother, but it could be he was just making it up)

His brother was shown in an episode... the episode where Diane nearly runs off with him, but Sam stops her and it's the beginning of their budding romance in Season 2. Sam always felt inferior to Derek, was it? He had the education, the distinguished job, he sang like Robert Goulet (hehe)... he could do just about anything he attempted. Poor Sammy. :(

More observations:

We never saw the place where Sam lived.

Exactly where does that hallway in Sam's office lead to? Another room? A deadend?

Anyone who works at Cheers are able take off when they want to. Wish I could do that at my job.

What exactly was Rebecca's job when Sam got the bar back? Seems like after her first season as manager, she hardly did that anymore and just hung around. I dont think she ever was a waitress (except for that one episode when she threw drinks in everyone's faces).

I think if Cheers lasted another season, Paul, one of the background barflys, would have been a regular character.

Has that bell above the bar ever been rung?

I always thought it was interesting that the crowd in the bar would always ignore whatever drama was going on with the main characters. Seems like Fraiser could be running around with scissors, Carla could be yelling, Sam and Diane would be fighting, Cliff could be revceiving electro shocks for being annoying but everyone around them could still carrying on conversation as if nothing was happening. Ever noticed there always seem to be slight crowd hum in the background?

1. Diane prefers to wear nylons instead of pantyhose.

2. Sam never adds cream or sugar to his coffee, then again nobody seems to?!?

3. Sam also likes small bottles of seltzer

4. Cheers always seems to be packed, yet, Carla really is the only waitress ever employed by Sammy. (Diane was always taking time off and Rebecca was just there!)

5. Do ya notice how Cheers opens up early in the morning? It IS a bar isn't it???

6. Cliff either loses his ability to speak or loses feeling in his limbs when approached by a woman.

7. Paul had another name in earlier episodes of the show.

8. Cliff's uniform changes from the first couple of episodes to what we're accostumed to seeing now.

9. Carla made fun of people with names like Sumner and Irving, yet named her genius child Ludwig!

10. Diane, Norm, Cliff and Woody were all only child's in their families.

11. Phil is Rhea Perlman's real life father.

12. The person that Rebecca hires to write a jingle for Cheers, would later be cast as the father of Frasier(John Mahoney)

One other observation that I have is that in the pilot episode, we see an older woman in a wheelchair sitting at one of the tables having a drink. The only accesses into Cheers are through the front door or down from Melvilles. Both entrances have only stairs. So that means either the old lady wheeled her self down a flight of stairs(Ouch!) or somebody had to assist her. Either way, it seems like a major hassle to get a drink. Especially when a place like Gary's Old Towne Tavern was street level.

Has that bell above the bar ever been rung?

Yes It has I believe.

1. Vera in the Thanksgiving episode was played by George's wife.

2. Tinkerbell that Cliff meets at the halloween/costume party is also played by George's wife.

1. Fraiser never keeps a women. He gets dumped by both Lilith and Diane.

2. Carla is the only female person employed to Cheers that Sam never hit on.

3. Sam always passes at least a look out of the corner of his eye to every costumer that comes into the bar.

4. Cliff was always in the bar, so when did he deliver the mail?

5. Norm was always unemployed, well, not ALWAYS, but a lot of the time, but never asked for a job as a waiter in Cheers. He is always in their anyways, so why not work there as well?

6. I don't think that we ever see the Cheers cash register used.

Norm was once Cheers's accoutant, but Sam didn't trust his methods and was still using his old accountant.

the Cheers cash register WAS used...one time i remember Woody was getting change for Harry the Hat, who conned him then and there.

all of the non-main regulars began in the show w/ different names, then by the end of the show, used their real names.

we DID see Sam's apartment...was it I'll Be Seeing You, in the beginning when they showed everyone's house to catch everyone up on the story? any way, theres a pic on my page (at the bottom).

what hallway in Sam's office? do u mean the doorway next to behind his desk? i always thought that was a room where they just stored stuff (wine closet?)

the bell WAS rung, but i forget when

Rebecca's character WAS dumbed down after season 6 (as many ppl say). she always rejected sam, tho she became much more friendly and less 'cold' (as she called herself) after season 6 (the the point to where she was in the finale! lol)

lol...about the crowds: sometimes that happened, sometimes it didnt. for example in "a stork brings a crane" the entire bar yells "Shut up!" to the barbershop quartet (OK...bad example) anyway, it happened SOMETIMES

i thought the pool room WAS the back room. also...has anyone ever noticed how the set MOVES?? like in one ep, they may be focused on Norm (in his regular stool), so we can see the back room. OK...u can see a window. then, in another ep maybe, in the same view, u look to the back, and see a wall! lol its funny cuz u can tell its a set this way

Acutally it was in Coach In Love Part 2 where we saw Sam's apartment. Because they showed Diane's apartment and Frasier was on the phone with her. Frasier wasnt in I'll be seeing you.

And I have some observations
1. The episode always seems to end before any character in the bar gets drunk

2. Whenever some characters start to talk about one of the characters. Always the character they are talking about comes in right then. Just a thought...

Mine are not so much observations, but questions that hopefully some of your observations may be able to answer:

Did we ever actually see Sam's corvette?
Did we ever get to see the inside of the Hungry Heifer? (If so, which episode, if anyone knows)

chipsaugratin
05-22-2007, 11:42 AM
We see Sam's Corvette on several occasions: (a) from season 5, "Diamond Sam" when he and Diane are going to dinner (b) from "I Kid You Not," from season 7, where he lends it to Woody for his date with Kelly (and follows them to keep an eye on the 'Vette); (c) from "Sam Time Next Year" in Season 9, as Woody drives him to his Valentine Day's date with Lauren. There may be others; also, (b) and (c) might have included only shots of the interior.

The "Hungry Heifer" is seen twice: in "Cheers: The Motion Picture'" from season 5, but only in the home movie; and in "Grease" from season 9.

Yes, and so was John Mahoney! The goofy guy they hired to write a jingle about Cheers...

(Sung to the tune of "Old McDonald):"Beer and pretzels, that's our game, C-H-E-R-S!"

I love when he said to Rebecca, "What's the matter, babe, can't work with a man you're attracted to?"

Another question that hopefully can be answered by your astute Cheers observations:

In the episode when Norm is painting the Crane's home and ends up displaying a knack for interior decorating, we get to see the Crane's home. Is the set we see as the Crane's home the same exact set as the Malone home on the episode when Sam and Diane are daydreaming about their golden years as a married couple?

Pesk
09-11-2007, 08:19 AM
In season 1 the only sets used were the bar, office and pool room.

In season 2 we saw diane's home occasionally, but that was the only set other than the bar. We also saw diane's home in the first eps of seasons 3 and 5, but that's the only times.

In season 5 the only episode to show the pool room was the last episode.

Sam, norm and carla are the only charatcers in every episode, but I think cliff was only missing from 2 or 3 eps.

In season 2 there's an episode with carla's sister, also played by rhea perlman. But she is never seen or mentioned again, not even in that later episode where carla's mother was dying. In that episode carla had another sister, and characters like sam always referred to carla's sister in the singular, so she only has one sister, eg "hey carla, you hate your sister don't you?'

In the last 2 seasons, most of the scenes before the opening credits are set outside the bar.

10. Diane, Norm, Cliff and Woody were all only child's in their families.

Woody's brother was mentioned at one point, he said on sunday his family would read from the good book, then he and his brother would sneak off to the barn and read from a bad book. :)

Diane, norm and cliff might not have been only children, their siblings were never mentioned, but then again fraiser never mentioned niles either.

There was 1 other set from Season 1, the Men's bathroom. I guess we are also not counting sets seen on the bar TV, like when Sam starred in the beer commercial with Luis Tiant.

Have you noticed that Carla, mostly in the 8th season, leaves with her Apron on?

And in the first seasons, once, diane said she was premature Baby.
Then Carla said. "You couldn't wait to get out and start Yappin'?"

Then in another episode Diane said: "I think Late born babies are intelegent, For exaplme, I was late."
Then Sam said: "Hey me too!"
And then she said: "Oh, it was just a hunch..."

10-13-2007, 05:00 AM
The bell was rung on certain occasions:
1. Sam tries not to hear Coach about the tax return on Season 2 episode called "No Help Wanted", claiming to be bell day.
2. Coach rung it once when he help a guy with a problem bout his gay son in the 1st season.

Whazzup2007!

the bell is rung when the epidsode on the second season when Sam hired Norm as an accountant.

And in the first season when Carla is 'given the bar'... she rings the bell to announce the bar is hers

chipsaugratin
10-21-2008, 10:58 AM
In a season 3 episode Coach rings the bell when he finds out it is Norm's birthday. In the episode Norm is hit in the head by the champagne cork, goes to the hospital and also sticks Sam with a bill for having a mole removed from his butt.(I believe the episode is "Diane Meets Mom.")
