Can't believe there's no thread on this. This will be the first time the show has re-aired in the U.S. since it went off in 1967, 48 years ago. Like all Sherwood Schwartz shows, its terrible but with a great theme song. But there's plenty of people who like Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch and those are terrible also.

I'll somewhat agree about Gilligan's Island. It's not the greatest show, but I wouldn't say it's terrible. It's About Time is bad, and worse than Gilligan's Island. Someone at Antenna TV had the crazy idea to schedule two long unseen, bad sitcoms back to back on Saturdays, My Mother The Car and It's About Time. Perhaps it's a ratings experiment.

The Brady Bunch, on the other hand, is a decent show. Certainly not terrible. It can be corny at times, and has that now outdated 70's vibe, but it's still fun to watch. In my opinion, it's much better than The Partridge Family.

Good news- I always want them to show more obscure shows instead of the same old stuff.

Bad news- I never heard of this one

Worse news- It will be on right in the middle of college football, so I'll never see it.

It's about two astronauts who during a suborbital flight somehow break through a time barrier and land their spaceship on a prehistoric earth. They end up living with a cave family while trying to repair their ship. Halfway through the season with the ratings low the astronauts repair their ship and return home only to find out that the cave family stowed away on their spaceship. So now the cave family is living with them in the modern world. At the end of the season the showwas cancelled.

I vaguely remember this show, but not until I read on SO that it was coming back! It jogged my memory. I remember the theme song. Not the words , but the tune!

It's about time, It's about space!!!!!

Than another verse said It's about an astronaut !! That's about all I know, but I can hum the tune like I just saw it yesterday!!!

What I'm wondering were there any hot guys in this show?

"It's about two astronauts and how they educate, a prehistoric woman and her prehistoric mate!" The cave people were played by Imogene Coca (Your Show of Shows) and Joe E. Ross (Car 54 Where Are You). One of the astronauts was played by Frank Aletter but I don't remember the name of the actor who played the other astronaut.

You are so wrong!!!! Those shows are the greatest! And the Partridge Family too!

Obviously a lot of people must agree since the reruns keep showing up on TV every year and "It's About Time" ran out of time almost 50 years ago.

I'll tune in Antenna TV to view My Mother The Car and It's About Time. I know these shows are bad, but I still like 60's TV, and this will be similar to unlocking a time capsule from 50 years ago and seeing what's inside.

If Antenna-tv was bound and determined to run a single-season Frank Aletter sitcom, I frankly would have preferred "Bringing Up Buddy"or "The Cara Williams Show." But, it's always good to see a long neglected series restored and revived. Actually, the "It's About Time" episode in which the astronauts bring the cave-people back to modern times is pretty darned funny.

I think Sherwood Schwartz might have had F Troop in mind when he got the idea for It's About Time. The show bears a resemblance to F Troop. The two astronauts could be inspired from the Agarn and O'Rourke characters, and the cave people could be inspired from the Hekawi Indian tribe.

Agreed, I would rather see those also. However, both are in black and white and do not have available tape transfers. Cara Williams Show I don't even think has a distributor so that's out.

The second format in modern times is much better than the first.

It's always interesting to see episodes of short lived sitcoms from the 60's. While these shows were failures, they still retain nostalgia value and are part of TV history.

I was surprised to find on you tube an episode of The Tammy Grimes Show. The series is one of the most notorious failures, dropped after just 4 aired episodes, which is unheard of for the 60's when the common policy was to let series run a minimum of 13 episodes before giving the ax. In the case of The Tammy Grimes Show, when it got cancelled, I believe six additional episodes had already been filmed but were never aired. Putting aside the fact that it's not a good show, the annoying sound of Tammy Grimes voice was enough to cause the series a quick demise. And to think Tammy Grimes was originally chosen for the lead role in Bewitched. It's fortunate that the role went to Elizabeth Montgomery, otherwise Bewitched might have lasted just 4 episodes also!

Cara Williams Show is one I'd like to see too, but I agree I don't think there's hope we'll see it anytime soon.

It's About Time was doing poorly in the ratings, CBS threatened cancellation, and I believe Sherwood Schwartz came up with the idea for a format change to avoid cancellation. CBS accepted the change in format and allowed the show to complete the season, and then they cancelled it.

At the time, Frank Aletter was married to The Time Tunnel's Lee Meriwether which debuted on ABC Sept 9, 1966, just 2 days before It's About Time on CBS. Both were canned in April, 1967

Gilligan's Island was a cartoon:lol:

Yea, it's like a live action cartoon. I Dream Of Jeannie started out as a decently written romantic fantasy sitcom, but by it's 3rd season it began transforming into a live action cartoon also. Eventually it became silly and nonsensical like Gilligan's Island. However, the 60's live action cartoon style sitcom that has the notorious distinction of being the silliest and most nonsensical, has to be The Monkees. All episodes are the same, the four guys are always chasing and running around somewhere, the episodes don't make sense, the writing is silly and banal. Even the music can't save it, most of the songs aren't very good either. Having said that, silly sitcoms from the 60's have a certain charm and quality to them that still makes them watchable regardless of how nonsensical they are. I'll watch an episode of The Monkees over any other sitcom episode from 1980 and forward.

Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch both have funny characters. However, in Gilligan's Island, the characters have to be funny and be the focus of the show because the writing isn't very good. The Brady Bunch is the opposite. It has better writing, so the focus is on that, the characters play out the script and aren't required to be as funny.

In Gilligan's Island, to me, Gilligan and the Skipper are like a 60's version of Laurel and Hardy. Alan Hale as the Skipper seems to borrow a lot from Oliver Hardy and uses some of his mannerisms and expressions.

The show only ran one season but it was popular enough to be memorialized with its own lunch box! Not even Gilligan or Bewitched got a lunch box in their day (I'm referring to vintage 1960s memorabilia).

Pretty unusual that she had a regular role in this and just one other acting credit (per IMDB).

I'm thinking maybe she was more into modeling than acting? ;)
