View Full Version : I think I have a hypothesis why Antenna TV is crunching credits
Big D In Charge 08-31-2015, 01:38 PM Call me crazy but didnt the guy who did the voiceovers die a couple months a go. And since then you noticed that they do not show those bumpers before every show starts so often. Then now when you see the new Family Ties promo it has a new guy talking over it. So maybe the credit cruch would end soon. That's just my hypothesis imo
Vahan 08-31-2015, 06:19 PM I hope you're right, but I doubt it.
Ronny G 08-31-2015, 07:36 PM No more credit crunching! This is not "TV the way it is supposed to be."

I know, right? It is hypocritical that they do this on many shows, but not on a few.
Someone claimed that they only do this on shows that have a tag scene at the end of each episode. Well, doesn't Leave it to Beaver have a short scene before the credits? And Antenna TV ALWAYS leaves the end credits alone on THAT series.
BigManMike 08-31-2015, 09:50 PM I just hope they don't do it on Family Ties. I'm extremely angry they do it on Mr. Belvedere and One Day at a Time. Some of the other shows have been on a while so I really don't watch them that much anymore like I used to but it still ruins it if I want to see them. Most of the other new shows they've acquired this year I really don't care for that much. They weren't crunching at all on weekends until the beginning of August and now they're crunching nearly everything. Weekends are now worse then weekdays. I usually watch Decades on weekends if they have a good marathon on.
Since Gary Owens died, I've heard another guy do some of their promos. I don't know who it is, but he has a deeper voice than Mr. Owens. I thought I read on their Facebook page that Shadoe Stevens (Hollywood Squares, Dave's World) was the new voice, so maybe they're getting the promos ready.
My hypothesis is either a) they're losing a ton of money because they mostly air the same Cancer Treatment Center and medical settlement commercials over and over again*, and each credit crunch gives them another :20-:30 for more commercials, or b) they needed to save some money to get the rights to Johnny Carson. The "more viewers" wanted this was a crock.
I am curious, however, why they leave the prime time shows alone, and would love to see them go back to being "TV the way it was meant to be", or even just go back to crunching the credits of one episode. Sanford and Son has a tag scene, and they don't touch that one.
*Oh, and Liberty Mutual...still, the other retro channels kick ATV's butt with their commercial selection.

Ahhh but if they losing money how could they afford the Johnny Carson shows
treky 09-01-2015, 12:30 AM I'm just hoping they don't crunch the credits on Johnny Carson
MrCleveland 09-01-2015, 04:38 AM If this keeps up, we'll have 30 seconds of sitcom and it will all be seen in 30 seconds and the rest of that 1/2 hour will be commercial!
I don't even mean Antenna TV...I mean TV in general!
BigManMike 09-01-2015, 08:08 AM I'm just glad Family Ties is on in prime time so it has a much better chance of not being crunched.
mets82 09-01-2015, 03:24 PM I don't know why they credit crunch. I mean does it matter if they do? The end credits of one show isn't that long. They don't have to crunch. There doing this, for what, get one or two more commercials? I just don't see the point.

That's the only point. They squeeze every nickle out of it, from cutting content to cutting credits.

I think B is it. It's to help pay for Johnny Carson.

If that's the case it Johnny Carson was not worth it. I can't stand them crunching credits. They should have waited until they had the money for Carson or another station that has more money should have gotten Carson instead.
BigManMike 09-06-2015, 10:35 PM I've also noticed they don't crunch Three's Company on Sundays. They crunch it Monday-Friday and Saturday but not Sunday.

No doubt Antenna TV pulled the "viewers wanted a quicker transition" claim out of their asses. Did ANY, and I mean ANY viewer, ask for this?
