I treated my mom to brunch because my job gave a thank you bonus so we went to a local diner, So the waitress that showed up looked like she didn't want to be there and had a "****ty demeanor" so I decided to no longer look her in the eyes. Then when she gave us our food I noticed my moms toast and my english muffin was on the same plate. So I asked the lady with a irritated look. "can you put this on another plate please"

So my mom was wondering why I was looking like that and I told her because I don't her attitude and she didn't separate the toast and english. Then my goes on to say that maybe the woman is going through something at home and I was like........"who cares this is her job"

So I felt myself about to explode on my mom at the diner over a stupid ass waitress and then I quickly had to change the topic lol But I cannot believe she was making excuses for a ignorant ass waitress who needs to quit.

Perhaps there is a reason why the waitress served your mom's toast and your muffin on the same plate. Maybe the diner has a policy and the waitresses serve items on one plate whenever it's possible. Dry items like bread, for example. Whoever owns the diner might be trying to conserve water and reduce the number of dishes that need washed. Restaurant owners are always coming up with ideas to conserve and save money on business expenses.

Usually the problem is bad management, resulting in poor training, lousy pay, etc. I just had a situation today, where one of my grocery items rang up at more than twice the shelf price. When I pointed it out to the cashier, he said I was wrong (and made up a lame reason -- which I pointed out if it were true, it would've affected some of my other stuff).

At no point did he apologize for the error, which had been clearly made: There were lots of that exact item on the shelf, in perfect agreement with the shelf tag (except for the price coming up higher). I had to tell him to take them off my order, when actually he needed to call for a price check. So I came off looking like a cheap idiot who was wrong -- but I was 100% accurate. The manager will be getting a call from me.

The kitchen staff usually prepare the plates and the waitress brings them out. If there's a problem we're supposed to take the order back to the kitchen to be corrected. You could always speak to the manager if you're not satisfied with the way your order was handled. I work weekends as a waitress and we have days when things are not going right but in order to get decent tips we have to make sure the customer is satisfied with their order. Sorry your order wasn't handled better.

Instead of taking my plate in the back to be wrapped up, the bitchy waitress had the nerve to throw a Styrofoam container on the table and told me to wrap up the left-overs myself. :mad:

I wish I would have gotten the chance to tell her off, but as she threw the container down, she also threw down the check and just walked away really fast. I should have complained to the manager when I paid my bill. That bitch was the worst waitress I ever had.

Yep! I have found that out within the last couple of years that seems to be the norm. Before if you asked to have your meal wrapped up they took the plate away and wrapped up the leftovers for you. Now you just get you the Styrofoam box.:( I was put off at first by it, but like I said, it seems to be going on now for a while around where I live anyway! :confused:

I haven't encountered any really rude waitresses or waiters lately, but not too long ago a grocery store deli counter girl was the rudest thing I ever met in my life! Nobody was in line , I was the only one there, and another customer came behind me. Anyway the deli girl was doing something but she did see us! Than she proceeded to ignore us, and me and the lady behind me were clearing our throats loudly to get her attention! Finally we were saying HELLO, HELLO !!!!! Than she comes over all annoyed and sighs and says very rudely Can I help you. The whole transaction she didn't smile and was really surly! Than later in the grocery store I ran into the lady who was behind me, and she was like What was up with that rude deli girl? So it wasn't just me, (she was rude to the next customer too)! I'm like IDK, and we contemplated telling the manager on her but decided just F it!

IDK if I agree Janice! That is her job and she should greet customers with a smile. I cashiered before as a young girl and I was always trained to greet the customers with a smile and a friendly hello, or good morning, or whatever even if you are having a bad day, leave that at the door when you come to work.;) Or if the customer is rude and out of hand , refer them to the manager rather than argue or be snarky back. Than I worked reception , same thing. And even telephone customer service bosses always said have a "smile in your voice" at all times even if the customer is mad or complaining about something and rude to you, keep pleasant with them! ;)

Easier said than done Bonnie. People who work with the public can't hide in an empty conference room when they're sad (btdt). Servers smile most of the time, so I don't think it's worth blowing a gasket when they don't or stiffing them on their tip.

She was the receptionist where we worked. She did her best, but she had her bad days. Was never rude to anyone, just didn't feel like smiling some days. Everyone survived.

Some people are going through a break-up, are in an abusive relationship, their loved one died (including their cats and dogs :)). One and on. Besides, a server can be friendly without an ear to ear smile. Sometimes just a nice, "How are you today?" will suffice.

Yeah I know that! When I worked with the public I wasn't always in the best of moods everyday either. I've had my hardships in life too. . But bosses pretty much made it clear, too many bad days and not being nice or friendly enough to customers meant you were out the door! :(

I worked in the restaurant business as a waitress, a hostess, and a bartender. It was one of the hardest jobs I ever had. The patrons can treat you terribly. Maybe the waitress was having a horrible day, because she was dealing with extremely rude customers. I always go out of my way to be polite to individuals who work in the food industry. I have been in their shoes, and I know how hard their jobs are.

Customers can be really tough and not nice, but a server or cashier who has a good attitude and a smile to start out with get's a better chance that the customers will be nice to them! ;)

I did a lot of retail sales work when I was in my 20s, but of all the retailers I worked for, very few offered much training in how to handle rude or unreasonable customers.

I had a boss who immediately took off for the break room when he saw one woman come in, and said to me, "YOU take care of her." He knew she was trouble, from past experience. Er..thanks boss. :(

The worst thing was when a customer would tell an outright lie. I let one guy in a couple of minutes past closing because he begged, and promised he only wanted to look at a light fixture, but wouldn't be buying -- the cashiers needed to cash out and go home. The next thing I knew, he was picking stuff to buy and forcing a cashier to work overtime.

I am not understanding why it was a nice touch? Any place I order a english muffin at puts it on a small plate next to my plate of breakfast

I'm guessing there was a napkin that wrapped the bread items to keep them warm? Most people like that. Your first post stated that the toast and English muffin were on the same plate. Big difference.

I never asked, didn't think I had too because I thought toast or a english muffin would always be on a separate plate



BTW: it must have been this crappy waiter because me and my mom did not have this issue when we ate their a few months ago

1. Went, into diner
2. Waitress approached us with crappy attitude
3. We gave her the order
4. I never asked for separate plates for e glish muffin because I never had to in the past
5. The food arrived and English muffin and toast was in the middle of the table on a basket
6. I waited for waitress to come back to the table so i could tell her to bring me a plate for English muffin
7. She came back and I asked her with a irritated facial expression to bring me a plate for english muffin
8. My mom noticed my facial expression a d got irritated with me.

That's when I was about to get in a argument with my mom but I quickly changed the subject since I realized I was in a public place
