The Carmichael Show - Wednesdays at 9:00PM & 9:30PM ET/PT on NBC
Premieres Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 9:00PM & 9:30PM ET/PT

From stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael comes The Carmichael Show, a series based upon his real family life. Everything seems to go pretty well back at home in his apartment (where he lives with his girlfriend, a therapist in training), but back at his parent's home, he has to deal with his vocal and politically incorrect father, a mother who fears God and will get involved in anything that is none of her business, and a brother who is always there to take advantage of everybody.

NBC did stand-up comic Jerrod Carmichael a favor when it decided to not air it with Craig Robinson’s Mr. Robinson, says Alan Sepinwall, who calls The Carmichael Show "a sharper, more thoughtful, and just plain funnier version of the kind of retro multi-cam sitcom Mr. Robinson was trying to be.” PLUS: Carmichael is also a stealthy comedy (http://flavorwire.com/534665/the-carmichael-show-is-a-family-friendly-90s-sitcom-throwback-with-a-stealthy-political-edge), but it's trying too hard to make points (http://variety.com/2015/tv/reviews/the-carmichael-show-review-jerrod-carmichael-comedy-nbc-1201572671/).

Jerrod's family is pretty conservative and his girlfriend is very liberal. They try to make Jerrod neutral/moderate but he usually swings in favor of his family, often putting him at odds with his girlfriend. But he's funny about it and usually satirizes the extremists on both sides of the political spectrum.
