Actress Maggie Kirkpatrick, star of the Australian television show Prisoner: Cell Block H, has avoided jail after being found guilty of sex abuse. Kirkpatrick, who played sadistic prison warden The Freak, was found guilty of molesting a 13-year-old girl in 1984. The star, who was in nearly 400 episodes of the long-running show known as Prisoner in Australia, was sentenced to 100 hours of community service. Magistrate Peter Mealy also ordered her to undergo a treatment programme for sex offenders. She will also remain on a sex offender register for eight years.


All along to this point, as has been observed the defendant has shown no remorse, simply protesting at a distance in her terms the untrue and malicious allegations.

Her victim, now 45, was a devoted fan of the series when the abuse took place 30 years ago. Kirkpatrick met the teenager through a colleague who was a patient at the same psychiatric facility as the victim. She cooked rabbit strew and watched the Logie nominations before the taking the girl to her bedroom at her Prahran home. On Thursday, the 74-year-old grandmother-of-two, who has recently been appearing in the musical Wicked, was convicted of two counts of indecent assault. She was also found guilty of one count of gross indecency. Kirkpatrick had denied the charge at Melbourne Magistrates Court, but the magistrate said he believed the victim to be a truthful witness.
