I was watching a couple of original To Tell the Truth episodes with Bud Collyer on youtube.com and even though I thought he was a very congenial host, he never said a funny thing on the air. That was also true in a biography I read by former Goodson-Todman producer Ira Skutch.

Collyer was also a very religious person, teaching Sunday School for more than 35 years in Greenwich, CT. One thing I remember about him when he hosted To Tell the Truth, he would always say to the contestants in parting "Goodbye and God bless you."

Feel free to post your memories of Bud Collyer.

Whenever I saw the Collyer-hosted "Truth" shows on GSN he'd say something like "always remember to tell the truth". IMO Bud was the best host in that show's history.

The "to tell the truth" channel is great. The same guy runs channels for "what's my line" and grouchos "you bet your life". Check them out. Lots of great classic game show material!

As for Collyer, I don't really have an opinion on him. He seemed like a decent host, not out of this world good though. The pilot for the show was hosted by Mike Wallace and was originally entitled "nothing but the truth". That might have been interesting.

Buzzr is slipping an occasional Bud Collyer episode in the Garry Moore episodes. The BC episodes have zero chemistry. BC is very bland, and robotic. Garry Moore is terrific bringing out the best in the panel and contestants. He stumbles on his lines, and misspeaks a lot which is part of the shows charm. The BC episodes I'll watch a tiny bit then usually just delete.
