Many actors and actresses became stars when they got from the small screen to the big screen...Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Ron Howard, Sally Field, and most of the cast of SNL to name a few...but then there's actors and actresses who thought they can make it in film, but shoot themselves in the foot...Topher Grace, Shelley Long, and even Johnathan Taylor Thomas.

Rob Morrow left Northern Exposure after appearing in a few movies.
David Caruso left NYPD Blue.

Both these actors ended back up on TV.

Shelley Long left Cheers and had a moderately successful movie career.

Patrick Duffy left Dallas but returned after 1 season off. (It was all a dream you know!);)
