Tracy Morgan’s making his comeback: The comedian, who was critically injured after a June 2014 car accident, is set to host the third show of "Saturday Night Live’s" upcoming season.
Morgan was a cast member on SNL from 1996 to 2003 and returned to host in 2009. He’s appeared on talk shows a few times since the accident to discuss his recovery, but this will be the first time he’s publicly returned to comedy since then.
His SNL-hosted episode will air Oct. 17th.
Miley Cyrus — who’s hosting this year’s MTV Video Music Awards — will helm the season’s first episode on Oct. 3rd, marking her third time as host.
Amy Schumer will make her SNL hosting debut in the second week on Oct. 10th.

That’s according to SNL historian James Andrew Miller, who says that Saturday Night Live will have something to prove when it returns and kicks off its 2016 election mockery on Saturday. “Despite all its prestige, acceptance, and Big-Footed clout, the show must now confront a hostile environment that will put it to its toughest test in years,” he says, adding that “it’s hardly a secret that there’s a waiting crowd of competitors out there—satirists, topical comics, pundits, parodists, wits, and wags—with new ones all but popping out of the woodwork.” PLUS: The attractive cast (http://nypost.com/2015/10/01/snl-cant-be-saved-by-nostalgia-anymore-heres-how-to-fix-it/) is one of several problems at SNL, Weekend Update co-anchors haven’t forgotten (http://www.tvinsider.com/article/42132/saturday-night-lives-new-anchors-colin-jost-and-michael-che-give-us-the-weekend-update/) Rachel Dolezal, how two SNL writers are preparing (http://splitsider.com/2015/10/inside-snl-with-writers-sarah-schneider-and-chris-kelly/) for the season, can SNL pull off making fun of Donald Trump (http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/oct/02/saturday-night-live-trump-baiting-and-miley-hosting-can-the-show-pull-it-off) after everybody’s done it?, how will success affect Kate McKinnon (http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/saturday-night-live-snl-season-premiere-1201608493/)?, play the Miley Cyrus SNL drinking game (http://www.people.com/article/miley-cyrus-snl-drinking-game), NBC is devoting 4-1/2 hours to SNL (http://i58.tinypic.com/23limx5.png) on Saturday night, and Miley won’t have a time delay (http://www.gossipcop.com/miley-cyrus-curse-saturday-night-live-time-delay-snl-host/) when she hosts.

Clinton did indeed make a cameo — as bartender “Val” who encounters herself played by Kate McKinnon, but the appearance seemed too celebratory of the presidential candidate, according to Kevin Fallon. “On Saturday night, Studio 8H was briefly remodeled into a pop-up Ready For Hillary campaign headquarters for the 41st season premiere of Saturday Night Live,” he says. "The guest of honor herself even showed up for a heavily teased set, one that was tailor-made to lampoon the two biggest critiques of her persona—that her presidential ambition can at times read as deranged entitlement and desperation, and that she lacks relatable charisma—all while not-so-slyly dropping campaign platforms disguised as jokes.” PLUS: Hillary Clinton tweeted (https://twitter.com/HillaryClinton/status/650520412477083648/photo/1): "A vote for Hillary is a vote for four more years of Kate McKinnon's impression,” McKinnon called out Clinton (http://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/videos/a38507/hillary-clinton-snl/) on her gay marriage support delay, it seemed like Clinton had no choice (http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/tv/z-on-tv-blog/bal-hillary-clinton-survives-her-snl-moment-with-kate-mckinnon-20151003-story.html) but to visit SNL, Taran Killam’s Donald Trump (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/critics-notebook-snl-season-premiere-829295) was a disappointment, and why Miley Cyrus isn't suited to host SNL (http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/disappointing-saturday-night-live-premiere-least-o-226268).

Morgan, in his comeback following a traumatic car accident, was fantastic, though not perfect. "It’d be a lie to say that Morgan didn’t look ever so slightly not himself,” says Kevin Fallon, "as understandable as ever considering the bleak prognosis after his accident. But his sense of humor and his passion for making us laugh was stronger than ever. For a fan of SNL, it was so much fun to watch.”
