I saw it again just the other day and I think it is SOOOOOOO moving and well done! The acting, the writing, the story line makes it my #1 Brady Bunch episode. Does anyone have it uncut? Becasue there are some great lines that are no longer in TV Land or syndication versions. (I HATE TV LAND for cutting out the Peter & Bobby dialoge when Carol & Alice ask them to help Jan learn her routine)
Peter...."I'm not gonna be any pom-pom girl!"
Bobby......"I'm not even gonna be a pom pom boy!"
I'd also would love to hear or know the dialogue said after Mrs. Watson acknowledges Jan's honesty and sportsmenship about Jan acknowledging the error on the score of her essay. Mrs. Watson closes her speech by saying, "Her behavior today should be an example to all of us." then there is a cut and we never hear Jan's initial reaction what has just happened, which is very moving and probably the most sensitive scene I have seen in a sitcom. The next thing you see or hear is in the middle of a sentence cause of the damn cut. Jan is saying
...."and I wanted to win at something so badly, I didn't know what to do."
This is a perfect example of how the best scenes often get butchered by TV Land and syndicates with no regard for their content.
My only criticism of this classic episode (other than the edits) is that the producers use the same auditorium footage for the assembly scenes that is also used in "Vote For Brady" (Where Greg & Marcia compete for class president) The footage looks grainy, old, and cheesy.
