Don't tell NBC, but Johnny Carson really owns the Tonight Show name.

So one episode in the books and we have an idea of what we'll get.

The first episode gave us 41 minutes of actual show time out of a full hour. 20.5 minutes per half hour is as much editing as there can be; not surprising but still disappointing.

The strangest edit came following Eddie Murphy's stand-up set. Eddie comes over to the chair to chat with Johnny, and there's an immediate commercial break. That's fine. But they come back and give us only about a minute of chatter before another break; surely that couldn't have been the case in the original episode.

And how do you think Linda Hopkins felt about being bumped? Sitting in the green room listening to McLean Stevenson drone on, and on and on... haha She couldn't have been too pleased.

Great to have this show back on TV, though it's a shame they max out the editing.

Looking forward especially to the weekend re-runs of the 90-minute episodes from the 70's. The truly vintage stuff.

I agree with your comments. I'm also looking forward to seeing the 70's shows, first one being aired tonight. Those will be cool to see. It's too bad the shows from '62 to '71 weren't saved. Those would be cool to see also.

The First show that aired on Antenna was released on DVD, so you can look for that & see what was edited. I watched the first 70's Broadcast & found it strange when they introduced Victor Bueno & than cut to a commercial. I also noticed no end credits.
