It's not a sitcom but was a family drama show in the late 1970 or early 1980s where a family decides to move back into the central city of Chicago rather than the popular trend then of living in the suburbs for well-educated upper middle-class families. It was an hour long show. I don't know the name of it or any of the actors who were in it.

My mother knows a lot about old shows but this didn't ring any bells for her.

Stephen Macht played Danny Novak, the father who moves his family to urban Chicago.

The show was created by Barney Rosenzweig & Barbara Corday, the couple also responsible for Cagney & Lacey.

Great show. Poorly treated by ABC, all of the episodes didn't air until it was picked up by cable. I have them all.
