"Brooklyn Nine-Nine": Bill Hader Cast as Precinct's New Captain
by Rebecca Iannucci
August 6, 2015

We now know who will be on the other side of those elevator doors when "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" returns: Bill Hader. The SNL vet will guest-star in the Fox comedy’s Season 3 premiere as the precinct’s new captain, TVLine has confirmed.

Hader’s character — who will only guest-star in Episode 1, as of now — will fill the vacancy left by Andre Braugher’s Captain Holt, who was forced into an NYPD public relations desk job by his nemesis Madeline Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick) in the Season 2 finale.

Co-showrunner Mike Schur recently told TVLine that the new captain’s identity “is far from the final surprise” in the season premiere, adding, “It takes a lot of fun story twists and turns, in very rapid succession, once the new captain is announced. It’s going to be a really funny and good episode.”

Bill Hader Plays "Borderline Lunatic" in Season Premiere of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" — First Look
by Dan Snierson
9/3/15

Oh! Captain? Our captain? Yes, Bill Hader is the new boss of Brooklyn.

In the season 3 premiere of Fox cop comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" — which airs Sept. 27 at 8:30 p.m. ET — Trainwreck’s leading man reports for guest-star duty as taskmaster Captain Seth Dozerman, replacing the fastidious Captain Holt (Andre Braugher), who was reassigned to a public relations post with the NYPD in the season 2 finale.

“Captain Dozerman is a severely anal-retentive personality,” says Andy Samberg, who stars as goofball Detective Jake Peralta. “He is not an obvious fit with the precinct — and Jake in particular — but Jake does his best to acclimate.”

And it sounds like the reunion between the former SNL castmates will be appropriately off-beat.

“Bill is funny as hell in the role,” continues Samberg, “Dozerman is a borderline lunatic, so in a lot of ways he fits in well at the Nine-Nine. It was great to see Bill and work together again. It’s basically “Laser Cats” set in the past with a way bigger budget.”
