The year is 1959. Dwight David Eisenhower is President; the Vietnam War is in full grasp; and struggling actors Tom Poston & Suzanne Pleshette began a 40-year romantic courtship after meeting and falling in love on the set of the Broadway show "Golden Fleecing."
The problem? They were BOTH married at the time--she was married to movie hunk Troy Donahue and he was married with a young daughter to aspiring actress Jean Sullivan.
After both their 1st marriages ended in divorce, Tom and Suzanne dated each other but eventually married others--her to Tom Gallagher and him to Kay Hudson, with whom he had a son and daughter; after their respective spouses died by the year 2000, Tom and Suzanne FINALLY culminated their 40-year courtship by getting married on May 13, 2001.
They remained happily wed until Tom died in 2007, aged 85; Suzanne, after a long fight against Lung Cancer, died of Respiratory Failure in January 2008.
