I second you on NCIS. While I don't dislike the show as a whole (there have been several episodes I really enjoyed), I don't understand its popularity. It gets old pretty fast.

It’s silly though. The Season 9 premiere two parter just has nothing but guy wanting to kidnap girl because the guy really likes the girl.

Perry Mason (60's), was an acclaimed series which was probably the most robotic series in TV history. It's the same exact formula episode after episode, it's amazing it lasted 9 seasons.

Family (70's) which was a nominated season after season for Emmy awards had great performances, topical writing, but also had such a lack of energy it was hard to watch an episode without falling asleep.

I do not agree with your assessment. First of all, I am the one who started this thread, and it did not get a bad start or need straightening out. :rolleyes: I consider an overrated show to either be a popular show that does not deserve the popularity, a show that has been overplayed in syndication, or shows regarded as quality by many or critics that posters do not agree with. It could fit all of those descriptions too. And you are the first person I have seen who claims The Honeymooners is not a sitcom. I know there are people who do not consider The Three Stooges to be a TV show, but the Honeymooners is just as much a sitcom as any other traditional half hour comedy. It did have sketches on Jackie Gleason, but the classic 39 episodes that are most known are a separate series.

Then who is overrating the show, the audience? That doesn't make sense, many people enjoy Gilligan's Island, it doesn't mean they think it's a quality show.

With respect to the Honeymooners, the 39 episodes are skits in a half hour form, Jackie was asked why did he stop after the first year, he said they ran out of ideas, does that sound like a sitcom to you? There are many things you could have done with those characters, but he wasn't thinking about fleshing out those stories or characters in any way.

39 episodes is more than a lot of sitcoms have aired. That was one season back in the 50s, but today with a standard 22 episode season, The Honeymooners had almost two seasons worth with those 39. Fawlty Towers is a brilliant Britcom that only aired 12 episodes, which is actually 2 whole seasons in England.

How about Law and Order (90's)? Hard to believe that lasted 20 years.

When I think of a show that's overrated, I think of something that is popular but that the viewer (Or in this case, myself) doesn't think it deserves that popularity for one reason or another, so I'm basing my answers on that.

I agree with all of these except Gilligan's Island, I like that show , the rest I can't stand and agree they were way overrated! ;) Oh well, I never really have seen Sex in the city, so I can't really say one way or the other on that one! ;)
