“Xena: Warrior Princess” could be returning to television, sources confirm to Variety.

The popular ’90s series is being eyed for a reboot at NBC and NBC Universal International, though the project is in the very early stages of development.

Rob Tapert, who created the original Lucy Lawless action-drama, and original exec producer Sam Raimi are involved, and the search for a writer is underway.

The “modern reboot,” first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, may or may not bring back Lawless, though those involved with the series reportedly would like for her to have roles both in front of and behind the camera. However, she would not appear in her original role.

The new “Xena” is in talks for a 2016 debut, but no decisions have been made regarding episode order.

“Xena” is the next revival project in the works, as all venues are hot on the trend. Also at NBC are the “Coach” sequel and “Heroes Reborn,” which bows this fall. Other shows coming back to the small screen are “The X-Files” on Fox, Showtime’s “Twin Peaks” and Netflix’s “Fuller House,”

This is great. Bring back the whole cast and you got a hit.

Lucy Lawless tweets:

"Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage."
