I agree it wasn't your typical light three's company episode

I wish there was a tag scene where either
They find out the guy isn't really blind and gets the crap kicked out of him
OR
Janet & Chrissy feel so bad for Jack, they give him a threesome lol

Definitely not the former.

I would say it's closer to the latter than the former, but it's definitely still miles away from the latter.

Not sure if I should give the scene away or not.

Buy the DVDs!

Care to give your reasons why you dislike it? I find it has some funny moments in it.

My vote for worst episode is from season 7,' "Bob and Carol, and Teri and Larry".

Bob and Carol was FUN and LIGHT

Jack's Navy pal involved some blind weirdo destroying the trio's apartment and Jack's Jaw bone:lol:

I know I dislike "Jack's Navy Pal" because it seems terribly unfair to Jack and the trio in general without a satisfying ending. The bad guy does not get punished. He hits Jack TWICE and trashes the apartment and ruins a dinner party, leaving the roommates to pay for the damages he caused. It's just very out of character for a show that is generally lighthearted and prone to happy endings and lifting up its characters.

"Jack's Navy Pal" definitely had some funny moments, but for the reasons stated above, I dislike its mean-spirited nature. It feels like a downer. It almost seems like the writers didn't like Jack in this episode, which is weird, since Jack is the hero and usually lifted up by the end of the episode.

Exactly. Whenever I watch Three's Company DVD's, I usually skip this episode, because to be honest, there are not many funny moments in it, and it's a departure from a normal episode. I think it could have been written better. For example, to either have his pal apologize to Jack for hitting him and for trashing his apartment, and they become friends again. Or, maybe have the scenes take place at the Reagle Beagle and not the apartment, would have been funny to see him knocking beer in everyone's lap :)

Or if Jack would have just hit the guy, all the suffering would have been worth it.

The writers seemed to try to say hitting a blind man was wrong in any circumstance, but when the blind man is asking for trouble and causing all sorts of CRIMES? I think we could have forgave Jack for slugging him.

You hit the nail on the head. The writers seemed very careful about sending a message of "you're not supposed to hit a handicapped person," but then they make it unfair from every angle.

I think in todays current trend of vulgar raunchy sitcoms an episode like that would be the norm.

Can you at least tie him up so he can't cause anymore damage while you're waiting for the police to come over?

I still say if handicapped people want to be treated like anybody else they need to realize they're not going to get away with being a jerk just like a non-handicapped person wouldn't be able to.

Being blind doesn't mean you can be a jerk to people.

I think this episode sends the wrong message to the audience.

He also guest starred on One day at a time in an early season as an out of town client of the company Ann worked for , I think a photographer? And he turned into a date / "One night stand" for our dear Ann! :D He got on a later flight so they could have some nookie!!

It's almost like in order to watch this episode, you have to watch that Jefferson's episode (George & The President) and All In The Family episode (Edith's 50th Birthday) right afterwards.

Nothing says TV sitcom justice to this man more than George Jefferson calling him honkey, or Edith smashing a burnt cake in his face

Yeah but Roper didn't gain anything...the trio had to pay for the broken furniture which he would have to replace. Sounded good but really Mr. Roper did not get anything out of that.

Plus, if he didn't raise the rent on them, how could he do that for another furnished apartment in the same building? lol
